Valley is a good team. they have real good chemistry in their system I've seen them play.

I still think Shelby Valley has a pretty weak schedule. As for the team, I think they are a much better team than I expected them to have. I think they could have beefed up their schedule some and still would have won a lot of games. I do wish SV luck this year in all their games except for three, maybe 4 of them. Two regular season games, one district game, and hopefully one regional tourney game if they play Pikeville.

I think Valley and Pikeville will have a few good battles this year. I expect both teams to get after it on defense.

I think Sv will have a very good year judging by the game against Powell they are a very good solid team.

What is SV ranked in the 15th region?
11-24-2006, 07:08 PM
If I can remember correctly, the Courier Journal has the region ranked as:
Paintsville
Johnson Central
Belfry
Pikeville
Shelby Valley
The Lexington paper had the 15th like this:
Paintsville
Johnson Central
Shelby Valley
Pikeville
Belfry
Same teams, just different order. I think on any night, any one of those teams will beat any other.

The great thing about SV right now is everyone on their team can handle the basketball. Good teams have players who can handle pressure. These kids have played together forever and have played in many pressure situations or most of the time they were kicking teams butts all over the state. Don't forget most of these freshmen are ready to turn 16 this year. With Justice handling the ball don't worry about anyone pressing them. He is the leader of this team and has been for 3 or 4 years. Remember they have played together a long time. He's the best point guard in the region. He may be the best freshman point guard in the state.

Elisha is definitely a good point guard, but this is only his second year on the team. He does take a lot of pressure off the rest of the team though because they don't have to worry about getting the ball down the floor.

How about big Ashley Hatfield stepping out to the 3 point line tonight and draining it..too bad his foot was on the line, but nice range for a kid his size.

I liked the enthusiasm that the team played with. These days it seems you don't see it often enought that a team actually has fun on the floor. I don't know if it is that the kids feel too much pressure or if it is something else.

SV is the most well rounded B-ball team I 've seen in years around this area including Southwest Virginia, and Noetheast TENN.

I've not seen them yet, but I'd like to know how you can think that after one game, especially the best in years. I'd be willing to bet there were some better well rounded teams.

I agree, Paintsville 95-98 was very good, Johnson Central was pretty good in 2000, and the Shelby Valley teams with the Akers boys were all great teams. So to say that this is the best team in years after one game is hard to believe. We will know something come January or a little later. Who knows, Betsy Layne could be a flop this year that was over hyped.

Based on one victory over a very sub-par Betsy Layne team???

They are a good team with a lot of talent. They can go about 10 or 11 deep.

Ashley is a lot closer to 6'5 than 6'3...But please tell me when you saw in Eastern Kentucky a 6'5 white boy step out to about the 3 point line and drain it? Yeah, you don't see that very often, anyone over like 6'3 around this area is a Center. So that's why I was talking about his size..

I know he said "every" year, but winning 3 of the last 5 regional titles isn't settling for second place. Gosh, you need to get over your jealousy of the SV program and worry about Pikeville. Yes, Pikeville beat SV in the district last year, I know..... one time in how long... I actually like some of Pikeville's coaches and players, but reading your posts makes me want to see Pikeville lose every game they play...

You know King, if you have been reading my comments on Shelby Valley, I have been making good posts about them. Trust me, there isnt any jealousy with me and Shelby Valley. Shelby Valley is the same as Pikeville on here as in a few posters really dont know what they are talking about. When someone says that a team will win because of the name on the jersey really doesnt know what they are talking about. That is what that post was about. No one can win the tourney EVERY year. But like I said in other threads about Coach Booher, he won the region and finished second in two years. That is the signs of a good program. But as good as they are, I am sorry, I will not say they are going to win it every year like other people does. If that offends you, then I guess you need to hope another team loses every game they play. But unless it is you on the court, I dont think it will matter what you want to happen.
