Best coach in the 15th
#1
Just wondering everyones opinion?
#2
Eric Ratliff of course. haha
no j/k BMR.
#3
BMR and David "Death" Rowe
#4
Bart Williams has done a great job with the Panthers!!!
#5
Overall, BMR. But he has had his hands full with this group he has now. First he had to wait on them to develop. Now he has to control them and get them to play as a team. I don't envy his job. Maybe they can get it together. But BMR has had the most success over the years than any other coach in the 15th.

He sure has! Given time, he should have them a top contender!

Jason Booher from SV

Everyone's first thought is who's won the most games, regional titles..etc...I would hope coaching goes beyond just winning. I would want to see practice and overall player attitudes toward the coach. Is he a role model to his kids? Does he work hard in the off season? If I were hiring a coach I wouldn't just see his wins and losses. Alot of lackluster coaches have tremendous numbers because they bounce around schools and win and don't stay around for the down years. Coach Runyon has seen his share of highs and lows and I admire that!!! I guess my point here is look beyond wins and losses. Their are so many great coaches that don't coach at Rupp!!!

Bill Mike Runyon has to be considered the best. IMO Henry Webb resigned much to soon at South Floyd he would have been one of the most successful coaches to come out of the mountains had he stuck around a few more years, but Coach Hall has done a pretty good job over there since he's been there. Also Jackie Day Crisp has done a pretty good job at Prestonsburg as well.

I can't believe that noone has mentioned Mark Starns, He comes in and puts his system in and the Golden Eagles Surf their way into Rupp. Maybe they shouldn't have won it last year, maybe they should have. To me luck is always a big factor in District and Region, but isn't it funny how the most disciplined and fundamentally sound teams are always lucky? Hmm? anyways my hat goes off to BMR because over the years, he has done so much for the Paintsville basketball program and has absolutely made them WINNERS. So in my eyes, both are nothing short of excellent.

Like I said in my post earlier. Will he stick around for the down years or will he run on to the next high profile job. Starn's has built nothing there. The program looked to be in good shape when he got there. Granted, I'm sure he works hard and knows the game but let's see what he does without talent although JC always has talent with numbers. My prediction for him is he leaves as soon as he can find a way out. I know he applied for the Ashland job and football is priority at JC. Good luck to JC this season.

I agree...if he sticks around a while and keeps the program in good shape...then he will be mentioned more.

Coach Starnes is a class act and excellent coach plus he has one of the bright young assistant coaches around. Bill Mike Runyon has done so much for the region from winning the state to being the same hard worker with teams that were not very good. BMR deserves every award he gets and more. I have seen alot of coaches over the years and have not seen many that have had the success that Johnny Martin of Allen Central has had. Spending nearly 30 years at the helm of one school is a rare feat and although they have not been winning as much in the last couple of years doesn't mean that Johnny should not be mentioned with the same regard as Bill Mike or some of the others. He has given his all to the Running Rebels. There are always coaches that are waiting to take over for someone and just like anything else in life there is no one that can't be replaced. Some of the good ones like Johnny however will be missed a little more.

I agree ! He is almost unstoppable in the Region Tournament !

Then I'd say Bill Mike Runyon, or Johnny Martin, and Jackie Crisp !

IMO Booher just gets lucky with kids that have alot of talent and alot of heart who have been raised to play ball in a great grade school enviorment...its not that he is that great of a coach more so he has gotten lucky to have such young and versatile players...

Took the words right out of my mouth..only reason he took the team to state a few years back was because he inherited Rodney Rowe's team.

IMO, the best coaches isnt the ones with the most talented players on the team. The best coaches are the ones who can get the most on and off the court with the players they have. The teams that win the games they are supposed to, win some games that they are not supposed to win, and keep in games they are supposed to get blown out in are usually the teams with the best coaches.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

Who in the hell seriously cares? I mean geez you guys are ridiculous.

He can't help that there is talent around him. He still wins with it, and not many people if any thought he could take a team to the Regional Championship last year. He beat Paintsville and Belfry on the way, who were both favored over Shelby Valley. He lost Kris Bentley, Kelsey Friend, and Patrick Tackett off the previous team, and still gave the team a chance in the regional championship.

Who cares if he inherited as you say, Rodney Rowes team? He still won the region, and done something Rodney Rowe would have never done. Get rid of Seth Kiser! Then they were fine without him. Seems like he knows what he is doing to me.

It's more about the basketball game, it's about learning about life, and Booher teaches these kids it's not all about the game of basketball because that's going to take those kids nowhere in life.

It's sad because of people like basketballjones holding a grudge against him because Seth was kicked off the team. Get over it.

Booher is a class act guy who knows his stuff, but I am going to go with bart Williams from Pikeville. He has done everything and more to try and turn the Panthers around. He is a great person with extreme knowledge for the game. I think he can definately get more out of his kids than Thomas ever could. good luck coach Williams and your Panthers.

BMR just look at what he has done.
