Should have beefed up the schedule. Why are they not playing Paintsville??? These two teams should play!!! Overall a weak schedule!!!

Shelby Valley should have some good freshmen coming in this year. I think they will do well. Looks like they are playing in the WYMT. E Justice, A. Hatfield, Taylor Newsome and Logan Bryant have played together for a long time .

Not the toughest schedule in the region, but compared to most with the exception of Paintsville & Johnson Central their schedule is among the toughest in the Region.

Mason County, North Laurel, and Clay County are in the Perry County Central Classic which SV is in.

Leslie Co. which won 20 games last year is on the schedule, and taking some initiative to play Dunbar which should be a tough game. They scheduled Louisville Shawnee who should be much improved from last season.

Better schedule than most teams in the region(Except Paintsville & JC)

I dont see it being that hard of a schedule. Take away the 15th region teams, then their opponents record would be 79 wins, 109 loses. Valley used to be the top dog in the region. Now look at the teams that are on their schedule.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

Was that last year's records? If so, then that's what that was. Last season. It's a harder schedule than most teams in the region, like I said except for Paintsville and JC. Belfry put together a nice schedule too. SV graduated a couple of great players last season. What else would you want them to schedule other than a Louisville team a Lexington team, and getting into a good tournament like the Perry Central Tourny and you don't turn down a WYMT Tourny invite. I don't know much about Craig County, VA. but I heard they are pretty tough.

It looks good for a 15th Region schedule to me.

I think the Wildcats will have a good season....but i think that they will fall short of the District and Regional tournament championships.

More than likely who will start for the cats this season they should be really young.

Jeremy Jackson, Jacob Byrant-and who else...........

I figured I'd give it a shot and ask a simple question. Who will start for the cats? If you look back to last year I belive that Bryant and Jackosn did start for the Wildcats. Just wonderign who else will start and see some big min?

Hatfield, Justice,Newsome, Bryant?????

I know I was going by last season records when I made that post. I was just saying there are not that many powerhouse teams scheduled. I personally dont think it is that strong.

If Kyle Goodson sticks with basketball until the season...the starting 5 will probably look like this:

Elijah Justice
Logan Bryant
Jacob Bryant
Kyle Goodson
Ashley Hatfield

I think the schedule is just fine, due to the youth of this team. You really don't want to play a bunch of power houses and destroy them mentally and physically. Because you have a very promising team for the future.

The point I am trying to make is, for the last 8 to 10 years, Valley has dominated the area in basketball. Yes, they graduated a couple very good players last year. But every year they have them to graduate. Valley is supposed to be the top dog around here in hoops. For them to have a schedule with opponents having a losing record is kinda shocking. I just dont think it is that hard of a schedule personally which is surprising.

At least they didn't schedule Piarist and Jenkins like another team in the district. The schedule is fine, and much harder than any other one in the 59th, which will pay off in March.

I didn't know they were in the WYMT Mountain Classic.

Better look again because they play Jenkins. The schedule is weak compared to previous years, but it has to be to make up for the lack of coaching.:yikes:

Ohh, didn't see it because I never expected it. Smile Well I'll rephrase and say at least they didn't schedule Piarist.

Good thing they got Onedia Babtist to make up for the Piarist game then huh? But does anyone think this looks like a schedule for a team who is supposed to be the top dog around here?

I believe that SV win the District, region, and go deep into the state tourament. Heck they may go undefeated in the regular season, cause their really good this year.

Only if Newsome does the coaching.

Jason is a good coach by what I've seen and heard from around here

They are a young team and not supposed to be top dog this year. When you are going to start maybe 3 freshman, a sophmore, and maybe a senior, you can't be considered top dog. Now in two years, I expect them to schedule anybody in the state. However, the did beat PRP, Eastern, and Lafayette this summer so maybe they should have. But they have Dunbar and Shawnee.

You must be one of the players that quit. Those are usually the ones on here bashing the coach. I think he is a good coach and a great person.

The talent is what has won for Shelby Valley lately not the coaching.
#26
They were talented when Seth and Kelsey played. Seth quit, since then I don't think they were that talented. Like I said you were probably one that quit the team.
#27
What's sad Hazzbeen is that he didn't quit the team. He's an adult showing his lack of maturity, and obvious lack of knowledge.

Just like all the other SV fans that bash their coaches.
#28
Thanks Disco. Every coach up there gets bashed on here from their own fans. Saunders gets it too, and I think he has done an excellent job with what he has. You people up there need to start supporting your coaches. Maybe then you would see more district and regional championships.

Unless they make a major turn around from last season, Paul Dunbar went 9-20, and Shawnee went 4-19 last season. They may have a major turn around this year, but putting those two teams in a post to tell schedule strength wasnt to good of a thing to do. Two teams with a combined record of 13-39 doesnt sound to good... You should have used Leslie County and Buckhorn as your examples, at least they both have winning records....

The tournament at Perry Central is where some of their toughest games are. Either way, Dunbar will be full of athletes, and I've heard they're ready for a major turn around this season talking to a former player that helps with the team.
