I think Powell is easily going to take the 14th region this year due to 13 seniors and powerhouse Romans. I dont see anyone stopping them this year.

You could be right Quickstep, Powell gets EVERYONE back and will be a very dominant team. They are quick on fastbreaks, good strength below the basket with romans, great press defense, you could see them at Rupp this year..mark my words.

im agreein with both of u. Romans he is a powerhouse down low and there gonna have a awesome fast break
09-12-2006, 01:18 AM
This is very true...but they have to overcome some tough obstacles(Lee County, JBS, PCC) if they want to get to Rupp.
09-12-2006, 02:47 AM
You are right..In my opinion..it will be lee and estill being the toughest obstacles. My reasoning begins that they are both big rivals and love playing each other because of the intensity and atmosphere that makes it a great game. BUT..it all starts out with homecourt advantage..Playing at powell will be tough..but so will estill and lee.So imo..every team in the district(56th) will have their hands ful..no offense..but except owsley..i dont think that they have much this year.
09-12-2006, 12:52 PM
I agree Godspeed...since owsley lost neely to Owen County that put their chances way down for competing in the district and in the region. Congleton should be their go to guy this season.
09-12-2006, 04:19 PM
Yes he should..unless there are some other players out there with talent that we havent heard of yet. Doubt that they are as good as neely or smith though.

Powell will be big in the 14th this year. When all of them play together they are a dangerous team. Being under the wing of coach lively they will definately be in shape and will be able to hang with the tough teams in the 14th. JBS, PCC, and Buckhorn will also be teams to watch out for this year, but Powell has 11 seniors returning to the line up this year if i remember right. Romans, Johnson, Dennis, Pelfrey, Adams, Skidmore, Merriman, Southwood, Sebey, Allen Martin, and Chase Friel. They will be tough to beat with a bench that deep.
09-13-2006, 01:06 PM
Its very hard to compete with a senior loaded team...especially one with a deep bench. And believe me, they all can play.

Guys come on, Powell does have a very talented and experienced team, but there is no way you can say they are easily going to win the 14th region in September, at least wait to November or December before making foolish predictions.
09-14-2006, 10:21 AM
There is nothing foolish about these predictions. Powell has more talent than any team in the region, way more depth, and alot of heart. Well see whos foolish when Powell takes the region this year.
09-14-2006, 12:08 PM
It seems to me that every year that people say that a team is going to win the region for sure, they always get beat out in the first round. To say a team is going to win their region because they have 11 or 12 seniors isnt realistic. Are you saying that last year they didnt have a shot at it because they was all juniors? Or what about next year? No chance then either?
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

He is right...last year Leslie had an awesome team and was the most talented team in the region but they didnt even make it to the regional finals. Powell is a great team, but lets not make any predictions and get them jynxed before the season even starts.
09-14-2006, 01:20 PM
They have a deep bench and are in great shape i see them as a front runner in the fourteenth and a great candidate for Rupp

No one's saying its going to be a cake walk...were just saying that we have high expectations and pretty good changes, and you can't disagree. irateSho

I agree with ur #1 fan, its gonna be hard work but these guys have the heart to do it. With a bench with that much experence, its going to powell a tough competitor. Keep up the good work guys, were all behind you.

they will be very tough in the 14th

June Buchanan 78 Powell County 56.
That's right. A 22 (or more) point win.
JMHO.

Did JBS beat Perry Central last year??
09-25-2006, 10:48 PM
If they didnt, how much did they lose by, and if they did how much did they beat them by?

They lost to Hazard 66-63 in double overtime in the semifinals of the region....but the 6'8 Collins did not play for the Crusaders in that game due to his leg injury.

u think that because collins had played that jbs would have won? Is that what you are saying? Could he have stopped the ball from being stolen as the end result?
09-26-2006, 06:18 AM
"hadn't"
09-26-2006, 06:20 AM
underestimation is a key to Hazard's success

If Collins had been in the game it probably wouldn't have been close enough for a steal to have made a difference at the end.
But that's all speculative now and water under the bridge.
I may be wrong, but I think by season's end Collins will prove how important he is to JBS, and how much he was missed down the stretch last year.

IMO i think that powell is gonna win it (knock on wood) lol

There is no way...even if JBS does have better talent. Powell has a deeper bench and IMO a better center with Romans. Romans is more talented, stronger, and he has a big heart. It dont matter if Collins is bigger. IMO if they played during the first of the season JBS would be on top. But if they played towards the end of season Powell would be the victor.irateSho

I'm getting tired of hearing about Garrison Collins. IMO he is to slow and to uncoordinated. It doesn't matter if your 6'8'' if you can't even bend over and tie your shoe without falling down. There is no way that JBS would beat Powell by 22. If your saying that Collins would make that big of a difference in beating Powell your crazy. Ryan Romans would dominate Collins. The only schools that Collins will put up 20 or more on will be riverside, the David school, parist, maybe Jenkins. Romans will be putting up 20 on everybody. Collins will not stop Romans!!!!!
IMO- Powell 80
JBS 70 due to the shooting of Steppe and Cox

However, this same group of players were 8-17 last year and lost to Estill County in the first round of the district tournament by 67-45. Well, June Buchanan is also returning most of their team and finished the season last year with a 23-6 record...which included a WIN over Estill in the regional quarterfinals. By losing by 3 pts in 2 OT to region champ Hazard in the semifinals is proof enough for me that the Crusaders are the clear-cut top team in the region this year.
imo- powell 80
jbs 70 due to the shooting of steppe and cox

Im gonna have to agree with lookayanner on this for the most part...because im not sure if any of these seniors for powell have even played in a region...so they might be older but they arent gonna be that experienced..but as for JBS they are returning alot and was in the semis last year, so i would have to take them in the matchup..and one of the favorites to win region..but its hard to say this early.....dont get me wrong i would like to see powell win, but im tryin to be realistic...JMHO
