16th region after summer
#1
2 horse race this year.  Ashland and Boyd.  The rest are very average at best.

Ashland looked good but not as dominant as they did in the past.  The kids are stronger but the bench is very light.  They could really be in trouble if they get into the bench this year.

Boyd is by far the surprise team.  They have loaded up in the transfer department.  Could Ashland be in trouble.  The new kid from Franklin with Boyd from Raceland and Boggs could be a problem for the 16th region.

Russell will be good but not great.  Darnell and Gabby will provide a good 1 2 punch.  Not sure what other threats besides
Kouns will help this team.  She will be a better threat this year.  Weak bench!

Rowan Co is my pick for 4th.  They are young but will be a surprise team.  Ford will be a dominant player for this team.

East Carter is 5th.  They are playing hard and look to be okay at the guard position.  Some returning depth.

Morgan Co is 6th.  Stong group returning and will be better this year.  Derek coaching the 2nd year this team will be more settled and ready.

Greenup 7th- This team has the kids to be much improved, but will they?  Crum and Steele as Seniors are a good combo.  No way they should be a bad team.

Raceland 8th.  Nim will be a load to handle ty.  If teams focus all their effort others will have to step up.  Many young 8th grade kids could help this team but are they ready?

Menifee 9th- Looked off this summer but have the big 2 threat and with Burgess they will be in the game.

Bath - 10th - Didnt see them but hearing they are solid.

TSSI,

I would agree with you that this is a two horse race. Not just because of the talent level but also becasue of the coaches. I'm most impressed with Coach Davis. She has definitely taken over for Coach Fraley as the dean of the 16th Region. But Coach Groves had a great year last year and makes me believe she will challenge Coach Davis in the 16th Region.

Two horrible takes lol. What has coach groves done at Boyd county? Other than recruit over her local kids? This rarely works. I think boys will implode before the season ends.

How could you mention best coaches in the region without mentioning Russell’s coach? They are top 2 every year with no transfers?

Coach Davis is a good coach. Ashland is a good team. Russell returns 2 of the best guards in the region.

Menifee county will be better than Boyd. Mark my words.

I think Ashland, menifee, and Russell are the top 3. Rowan/boyd complete the top 5.

Besides recruiting over her own local players, What has coach groves done at Boyd county to be a top coach in the region?

Im not saying Groves has done anything to merit she is a great coach.  I will say that you have no idea what they have if you haven't seen them play in the summer.  I realize summer is summer however this team is LOADED.  No wy they wont be top 3.  As for Menifee I saw them play and they are not even close my friend.  We will see as you said!  Russell has two good kids coming back and a good 8th grader.  As for Mandy she is a very good coach that does very well.

In my opinion, the 16th Region it is a two team race (Boyd & Ashland). I have had the opportunity to see both team play this summer. I believe they are very talented and well coached.

I will admit Coach Grove is new to the head coaching role but in my opinion she is definitely a top notch coach and in time will compete with Coach Davis as the premier coach in the 16th Region.

In my opinion, a message board is not the place to explain why a coach would not be considered a top tier coach. I just won't go there.

Groves and Davis have both done a good job carrying on tradition from Fraley and Bradley. Don't count Russell out. Mandy is the dean with all of her experience and championships. Should be an interesting season.

Outside of Nim who is on this team anymore?  Transfers and kids quitting the team every year has depleted this roster.  Long year ahead for Raceland unless they play cupcakes.  They could very well be 4th in that district.

new kids transferring heading into the last week before school.

Heard that Boggs left Boyd County and is now enrolling at East Carter. East will be much improved this year, she is a big addition. Last Ashland picked up another Raceland transfer in SR Brooke Campbell. Campbell will really help Ashland with their bench.

I’m sure the strength of schedule down there will be unreal.  Be another 15 win year beating a bunch of teams that can’t dribble. And then blow it in districts

Haven’t saw Boyd but have Ashland. They looked really sharp to me.

From what I seen Boyd gonna be super tough. Couple real nice transfers they got ones a junior and another in 8th.  8th grade class gonna be tough for next few years

I can't speak for other teams just yet but I know Menifee staff is putting in the work, not only at the high school level but also investing in their middle school program. Their 8th grade team has a very high ceiling. Several new pieces starting to gel together.  In their first two regular season games with an average margin of victory of 26 ppg starting the season 2-0. Solid group. Top three scorers averaging double digits along with fast and long defenders all around. Same can be said for the 6th grade unit, starting the season 2-0. 7th grade has bright spots as well with 6th playing up and helping solidify the lineup. Good things in the future for this group!
