Thoughts on 15th Regional Tournament in high school
#1
Heard for years people complain about the region tournament at the arena. After the girls is complete and round 1 of the boys how do people feel?

Watching the boys games on TV, I feel like the atmosphere would have been terrible at the Expo. Tons of empty seats were seen through multiple camera angles. If there’s that many empty seats in a regular gym, imagine how dead the Expo would’ve been. Still think it’s 100x better having it in a regular gym than the Expo.

I've never been to the 15th regional, so I can't really make a educated call on the attendance.  However, I feel most regionals have outgrown the HS gyms.  I have witnessed 7,500 at some regionals in the past.

Even with enough seating, PCC still isn’t large enough. When Martin fans were leaving Betsy layne didn’t even have their entire side to warm up,

Not counting the mess at the concession stands and restrooms (they are doing wonderful honestly but there just isn’t any room there for everyone to come and go.

There isn’t room around the floor for the entire media, extra officials, people going to seats, and truthfully the benches are pretty much on the court.

Saturday day games are not heavily attended either with people
Having other plans. I know our local school had little league tryouts/skills test Saturday, Several travel basketball teams playing, and middle school volleyball and soccer games. During our Gametime. That really keeps crowd down more than anything.

Monday crowd will be biggest night as semis always draw a huge crowd.

Outside of Martin county no one else really brought a big crowd.

Yeah, trying to put 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag.  People will also stay home, not willing to run the risk they might get turned away.

It’s ok if your team is in the first game of the session. It sucks if your team is in the second game and the crowd for the first game stays put.

Doesn’t need to be at high schools. They aren’t big enough. Entering and exiting is an issue for everywhere.

Then the issue of who can host and who should host.

No one is driving 1.5 hours to watch games just to watch them.

My only complaint was that after the first game on Sat many of the Pike Central fans just stayed and took up most of the seating on one side causing lots of the Lawrence and Pikeville fans to have to sit on the same side and in close proximity, and in a heated close very meaningful game is never a good idea. But I do enjoy watching another fan base stick around to simply root against another team , I always get a chuckle out of that.

Sorry, but I do.
