Reed Sheppard hasn’t had the rookie season many would have hoped, but he did have his best game as a pro last night for the Rockets. His line was 16 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks in Houston’s 99-97 loss at Brooklyn. What say you OSH? Was it the Arkansas t-shirt?

A call from Cal put some pep in his step. I hope Reed becomes a perennial All-Star.

Reed is just in a tough situation right now, drafted by a Rockets team that is in the thick of the playoff race, if it wasn't for OKC they may be the 1 seed in the west as we speak. Also, a ton of talented guards are already in front of him, young & veteran alike. You got Jalen Green who has turned into an all-star caliber player, then Fred VanVleet, who is the veteran presence on this team, plus an NBA Champion. So at least Reed has someone like VanVleet to lean on to learn the ropes of being a professional player. No denying he has a great work ethic, and going up against those type guys in practice every day will hopefully help shape him into a better player & teammate. I sure hope he continues to get playing time and keeps up the effort like he had last night.

Houston has hit a pretty bad skid beginning just before the trade deadline. They'd lost 6 in a row before beating the Raptors last night. Thought that they might be trying to inflate Sheppard's numbers as a way of making him more desirable to a trade partner, but they've also given him spot minutes post-deadline. Will be interesting to see how they approach the summer-- they're currently in 4th in the West, but they also aren't very far from 12th either.

Ok, now we’re talking. With a bunch of Houston players injured, Sheppard got the start last night against OKC and in 31 minutes scored a career-high 25 on 10-17 from the field, 3-7 from three, along with five assists, two steals, two rebounds and a block. Of course, SGA dropped 51 on the Rockets and OKC won. But this type of performance convinces me Sheppard can have a solid pro career if he is in the right situation. Not sure if Houston will be that spot though.

Yeah for Reed to have this type of game against the best team and arguably the best player in the league, he will do just fine moving forward. No denying he will continue to work to put himself in the best position to succeed.
