You are going to get Hoopty Loo  mad.

Definitely Z though! I read a post that he would rather  be washing feet in the church vs having the I am the best player attitude. That alone makes this kid a winner by far.

Jonathan Ferguson from Elliott Co, he was so fun to watch. I think he may be in the top 10-15 range for career points in the State. Those Elliott Co teams were so good too, but Ferguson was the one who stood out the most, for me anyways.

OJ Mayo is the best to every lace them up in the 16th. Bill Walker is second. Ashland broke up the ROSE HILL dynasty because they said they recruited!!! LOL GIVE ME A BREAK!

Forgot about that duo.  I will have to agree with you  and they hadn't even peaked while they were on the Hill.  However, I thought they departed Rose Hill for N> College Hill in Cincinnati was because of Walker's grades.

No, APB turned them to the KHSAA for recruiting violations. That sure is the pot calling the kettle! If it was due to grades, he wouldn't been eligible there either.

Things can change when you cross the state line. LOL  I believe Walker aged out was why Mayo went back to Huntington, they sure had some excess baggage.

Zander isn’t even top 5. He isn’t even top 3-4 Tomcat. He is the best player this year on the Ashland Team. I’d take porter, villers , sellars and Deboard before I take Z. That’s in the past 4-5 years. IMO

Kid has played 7 years in the region. Doesn’t even own any statically record, never was the best on his team until this year and last year. Last year. It was adkins and frieze who won the big games for them. That’s not a knock on Z. He is a good player. Good guy.

OJ then Bill. After that. I’d have to think about it. I’d say you could pick a few guys from across the last 25 years.

Mayo and Walker were hands down the two best players I've seen at a school in the 16th region. I'm sure a certain person on here would maintain that Mayo or Walker shouldn't count because they didn't actually live in the 16th Region or Kentucky for that matter, That would have to be his logic since that certain person has made it abundantly clear that Zander is not a Tomcat because he's not from Ashland.

I think the only people who had an issue was APB who turned Rose hill in for the same thing you’re talking about. Funny how it’s not ok when someone else does what they have been doing. Just like they did Fairview when APB turned them in. But I know your old and you missed that post says 16th region player which OJ and Bill along with the Dawson kid all played in the 16th. I don’t think anyone on here with a brain would argue that.

My favorite and most studied branch of mathematics is Logic and Set Theory. It served as a structural basis for my graduate seminar on recursion theory.  I still struggle to follow your logic. That's okay, maybe you're right? It has been a minute or two. Logic is not you're strongpoint so instead of quoting one of my math professors I'll stick with a quote from the smartest man I know. My dad always responded when someone made no sense, "He's so dumb he's happy".  I'm guessing you're happy.

On a serious note, it's hard to define a great high school basketball player. If future success in college and beyond is weighted the most then it has to be Mayo. If not, then it becomes more subjective and lends itself to this discussion. Mayo had unbelievable God given talent. Zander is the Webster definition of a team player. Where you place the weight determines what your opinion is.

Post was about best player. It’s hands down OJ and then Bill. If you’re talking beat teammate. How do you gauge that as a regional teams. Lol. Must be that logic you speak so highly about.

Mayo is #1 and #2 ain’t close but there are a dozen better than some mentioned on here. Knipp and the Faulkners at Elliott. People forget how good Elliott was in that stretch. Troy Stewart at Fleming made state semis and won natty at Gtown.. Adam Wing at Rowan made title game and played at Evansville.

If they didn’t play at Ashland. No way could they ever be good! It’s impossible! The fan base at Ashland is warped, bias, and have a lack of self awareness that is on epic levels. Look at the teams they have had and have. They don’t even have a kid in Ashland that plays for them now.

Those Elliott County teams were fun to watch back then! Something to be said about kids play for a community they live in and from. Makes everything much sweeter!

Adam Wing was a great player. That was by far the greatest State Championship game I've ever seen when they played Christian Co. led by Anthony Hickey, he solidified his Mr. Basketball status that week. I'll never forget sitting in the upper level, first row right at half court, whenever the kid from Christian Co. shot the game winner in OT, I knew it was going in as soon as it left his hands.

I know I got a little off topic but sometimes just seeing players names just brings back memories like that. Adam Wing was special, and Rowan made a special run that year.

Jackson Childers?  HOOPFAN is ate up with ASHLAND!  Maybe after this year ROID dad could transfer kid to Ashland or is he going south?

Elliott teams were fun, wonder what they could've been if they had a better coach?  The old saying goes coaches need the jimmy & joes Elliott had them. 2006, 2007, 2008, 2015, 2016, & 2017 should've had 2019 also.  Adkins didn't have a JW assistant to get dad off bench and that started the reign of A-TOWN.

Imagine if ASHLAND played with ASHLAND kids. NOW that would be something. Fairview would be the second-best team in the district behind BC. Ashland wouldn't have enough kids to fill a roster.

Sam Lyons and maybe one or two of the Ashland 8th graders on the varsity roster.
