UPDATE AS OF 2/25/25 at 11:15am
The Boys & Girls 15th Region Tournament will be moved from the Appalachian Wireless Arena due to the FEMA landing site for the Flood Relief Efforts.
When the Host Sites are named, this post will be updated.
I know the 15th is usually hosted at the Appalachian Wireless Arena but I’ve heard some talk that because of all of the resources and stuff for the flood that we may be seeing a regional tournament at a high school. How true is this?

That's the first I've heard of anything.
It would make sense to move it out, seen a picture posted inside the Expo and it is full , from front to back of cleaning supplies, water, etc.
I think it would be the best decision to move it out, we're talking about a situation where people literally lost everything they've ever had, trying to put the pieces back together and figure out what to do next. It would be insane just to get rid of all the supplies that are helping these people, just to play a few basketball games. That's my take on it anyways, I think it should be moved to a high school.

I have heard the UPIKE gym and I have heard Johnson Central, one makes sense with location another makes sense with size. I have also heard that the supplies might be condensed to the loading dock area for the tournament, but as you all said I have a hard time believing that and think it should move to a high school. We shall see!

Bring it to Prestonsburg!

UPike gym has almost no parking. Don't see it. 95% chance Expo makes it happen there.

might as well have it at phelps and make everyone suffer.

I think if it could be played at the old UPIKE gym it would be electric!! The problem is there is no parking and not many seats in there.
Johnson Central is a good option because there is a decent amount of parking and a big gym.
Pburg isn’t bad either but there is not enough parking in my opinion.
While all three of these places are great I think that the expo will make it happen. They’re all in it for the money anyways and this event brings in a TON. So in my head there is no way they don’t figure something out.

Regional has been held at all the mentioned high schools in the past, minus Phelps. It can be done.

I like Pburg's gym, and it would create a great atmosphere, but I don't think they have anywhere near the amount of parking you would need. With Johnson Central you have front and back parking at the high school plus the Middle School parking lot plus Mayo Plaza right beside of the school. My guess is that the Expo finds a way in the end but who knows.

It is now official, 15th region tournament will not be held at the expo center this season due to it being a designated FEMA location for supplies due to the flood. It will be held in a high school, that location will be announced tomorrow.

my guess would be JC or Pburg , Pburg is more central though

do the right thing!!!!! mccoy athletic center downtown phelps kentucky...... hornets and pauls pizza for all!!!!

Yeah, Pburg makes the most sense logistically, centrally located, plenty of room inside, has good parking down below the school as well.
I think this is the route they should go, if it's going to be a Pike Co. school it would have to be Valley or Pike Central, and then Johnson Central would be the other option. I still say Prestonsburg makes the most sense.

I knew this would happen! I think it should be hosted at pburg or Pike Central. Both central areas of the region and have good parking+seating.

Of the high schools outside of Pike County.....
These are the best two options.
Johnson Central
Prestonsburg
These three Could host if-needed
Martin County
Lawrence County
Magoffin County
These are No-Go's
Paintsville
Floyd Central

Belfry is 100% the best location and it’s not close!

I would think whoever the host school is would get first crack at it.

I heard Pike Central. If that is the case, then they should get to host it. Were they being used as a shelter, or were they a distribution center? If they are still being used as a shelter, they may have to look elsewhere for a host.

I had the same question, I know they had some people up there that were displaced by the flooding, but I don't know if they are still there. I'd assume the school was set up as both a shelter & drop-off location for supplies.

they posted there moving the flood distribution stuff to mullins so im guessing it will be held at pike central
02-25-2025, 03:48 PM
Yep looks like Pike Central is preparing for it as we speak.
02-25-2025, 03:59 PM
I was told it would be Pike Central as well
