It’s hard to win on the road in this region, it’s hard to win in london, Corbin, log mountain, Baxter, manchester. Winning on the road means more than at home. If South had beat Harlan County at HC, yes they are number 1. But even with the loss to south, Bell County has beat Harlan County in Baxter and was the only team to do it since Mike jones left. South proved they can beat Bell by doing it, but it’s a lot different when the location changes. For instance, Bell lead by 19 over HC at home and by 31 at home over Corbin. As a bell fan, that doesn’t happen at the opponents home gym.
What was more impressive in my opinion was South playing so well at GC. But the best Road win for the Cards is probably Mad Central. Remember the cards lost on the road to both Clay and Corbin, but we don’t say they are better than south. I know it’s a homer take but Bell is still number 1 for me by a small margin. If south won on Log mountain, i would concede willingly. Sometimes the number 1 team in the region loses on the road in the region, i know its been years since that happened but its been top heavy since before knox centrals reign.

The Region tournament will not be played on a home floor, its at a neutral site that has long been the death of many perimeter based teams. Plus SL has the one thing that no one else in the region can match......size. This will be the closest region tourney in memory, and personally I hope we don't open like we did last year with the best game of the tourney in the opening round because their is a better than average chance that Bell or HC open with......yes SL. And don't forget the finish SL put together 5-2 over the last 7 games that honestly in my opinion no one else in the 13th could've done better. But at the end of the day you're a homer and I'm a homer. Regardless of which team wins, the 13th has a path to a final four at state!(02-22-2025, 11:30 AM)shottaker23 Wrote:That order?? I think you are spot on, my friend. South, HC, and Bell. That's it. Corbin with a puncher's chance with a good draw and a subpar performance by Bell/HC in round one or semis. The more I think about this, the more I think South might pull it off. Mabe's one of those special talents that can lead a team to a region title, almost by himself. He's a rare gem. Without Mabe, South wouldn't even be in the conversation. With him, they could possibly win a state title. He's that big of a force for that team.

I didn't think the game at Corbin was one of Mabe's best. Tony had a good plan for that game and his team played well.

It would be hard to win in SL with officiating. Mabe is a great player but gets touched or gets any contact he goes to the line. IDK what the foul count was but at one time it was 9-0 SL.
End of first qtr I think BC was up 2 down at the half by 4. Come out third qtr. 8-0 run by BC. The whistles came out when BC went up 7 in the third. By the end of the 3rd. BC down by 4.
The whistle from crew was the difference maker.
BC played zone most of the game. Defense was based of the refs. BC couldn’t touch. It was whistled but SL could push with two hand and throw body blocks and nothing was called. BC fan base was witnessing a good ol fashioned homer crew.
Mabe tried to guard Spur and I think he probably had 30 on him which I thought was odd match up. Mabe couldn’t stay in front or guard him. BC didn’t hit shots like they normally do as a team. Lived by the three and died by it.
Neutral court. BC wins this game. I don’t think the foul count would be that lopsided. Turnovers did kill BC in this one as well. Really not forced by SL pressure. Just bad passing/decisions with the ball.
Your opinion is your opinion. What’s not opinion. Spur scored on Mabe at will. Hitting threes on him 4-5 times and blew by him on numerous occasions. If Spur got the same whistle Mabe got this game. He would had 40+. Mabe scored majority of his points from the fouls line last night. I’d say he shot 14 to 16 foul shots easily. If he shot it and missed. Whistle blew.
Mabe is a good player. Taking nothing from him. To say the guy he guarded scored on him at will and not miserable.
Spur about made him fall twice and hit threes and layup a few times. I don’t know what game you were watching.

Imma go back in time, last year at the 2A state tournament Bell County had a 21 point lead at the half, and lost to Boyd County. There was a 14-2 foul discrepancy in the a second half. Neutral announcers could not believe it, even on a neutral floor it was insane all because a single official got upset with a bell county fan at the beginning of the third quarter and went on to call every thing under the sun, including a 10 second call after 7 seconds of having the ball that I personally lost my voice over.
Last season Bell went to Boyd in football, and without a doubt had over 250 yards in penalties. They had not 1 but 2 Tds called back and a PI on a 4th down that set them up 1st and Goal.
I love to bash refs at corbin, south, manchester, anywhere in the 14th, etc. HOWEVER, a Boyd county fan will never get any sympathy from a Bell County fan. Said the same thing in a football thread this season. The only two fan bases I give no sympathy for on officials is boyd, corbin and anyone from the 14th.

But the point of Bell Co winning at Harlan Co isn’t 100% valid. BC is capable of winning tough road games, but Huff was sick for the game at HC and didn’t look the same. And it still took a buzzer beater for BC to win. If Huff isn’t sick, no way HC loses that game. I still say SL is the team to beat. But BC and HC are close.

Per Hudl the foul count 12 to 18 which is probably correct considering Boyd fouled a lot in the 4th when they were down 10. I’m sure Mabe and Z will have a good laugh at the Ky all stars again about how they stuck it to Spur. Only time I recall spur sending Mabe to the floor was the offensive foul on Spur when he led with the high elbow. Was that you sitting with the Joe Dirt grandpa who got thrown out.
