BYU 91 Kansas 57
#1
Final from Provo. Ouch.

The Cougars never trailed in this one. They led by 20 going into intermission, and it didn't get any better from there.

Kansas is 17-9 on the season and 8-7 in conference play.

BYU was probably in already, but this one sealed it.

The Jayhawks are a mess !!!

The Cougars looking good post-Pope. Wonder if Cougar fans are glad Mark moved on?

I'd say BYU fans are incredibly thankful for their NIL donors and Pope is still a sore subject despite the program having a pretty good outlook considering.

They were a lock under Pope at this point last season. Sure, they're probably in now, but they could conceivably lose all of their next five (Arizona, Arizona St., West Virginia, Iowa St., and Utah). Tonight's win was their first over a ranked team this season.

Kevin Young had plenty of experience as an NBA Assistant, so it isn't as if he's a slouch.

Mark certainly had his defenders in Mormon country but some others had a different take . Here's the other side of that coin from a Cougar board.

@Blueto : "Mark Pope didn't elevate BYU basketball or leave it in a better spot than when he got here.

I have no affinity or love for the guy. He used us and is gone. My feeling is the next coach will be much better than him. "

It's like most places. Some will will wish you well; others will wish you damnation.

Let's hope when Pope moves on from us, most of us will not feel as Blueto did.

Looks to me like the NIL money has Kansas upside down.  I would say, Bill Self has lost this team.

Yeah, looks like they've disengaged.

They can't be near as glad as I am that Cal is gone. He sucked ass for years.

@Old School Hound I'm gonna have to check on you later if Arkansas pulls this one out against Auburn.

Got a text msg saying "Kansas is getting thumped" so I turned it on and they were down 30 with like 12 minutes left in the 2nd half!

I watched the rest of the game just out of pure curiosity/insanity just to see how bad they would lose, at one point got down by 40. It was to the point late in the game that BYU was diving on the floor for loose balls, still hustling despite having that big a lead.

Seen an interesting statistic the other night, that in the 60 games that Hunter Dickinson has played for Kansas, the Jayhawks have went 40-20. Like already said, KU spent big in NIL the last few years, and it obviously hasn't panned out the way they thought it would.

Did anyone see Bill Self's comments after the loss? He really did seem like a defeated man who has lost this team. After losses to Utah&BYU, he basically said that they just need to get away from each other for a bit, that the road trip didn't work out in regard to team bonding. Tough times right now in KU.

This was the Jayhawks' worst loss as a ranked team to an unranked opponent.

Are any Big Blue fans feeling sorry for the school that felt the need to score 150 pts in a 55-pt pasting of Rick Pitino's Cats?

Different Coach, but no, I don't give a hoot about Kansas.

No, especially since Pitino's UK team the following year turned the tables and beat Kansas. One of the most satisfying wins ever.

I like Mark(Pope) and I hope he kills it here but I was rooting for that vulgar, sex-crazed little Italian to make his way back to the UK bench. He was my mom's all-time favorite. She liked Cal but she would have LOVED seeing Ricky P. back in Lexington. The Pitino years were a very fun time to follow UK basketball.
