Corbin 66 University School of Nashville (TN) 54

Pretty nice win for the Hounds over a fairly decent team from Nashville, TN  that had won five straight before dropping a 56-51 decision to Perry County Central on Friday.  The Hounds bounced back nicely in down in Rocky Top after losing their first game to Loretto, TN on Thursday. They pounded Hamilton, ALA 83-50 on Friday before winning by a dozen today.

T.P.'s  Hounds are now  6-3 on the young season and will be back in action the Friday after Christmas , when they take on their crosstown ballers , the Lynn Camp Wildcats, in the opening round of the CFIT at Corbin.

Good win for Corbin. They were down by ten in the first half. Akins came through with 21 pts, 7 rebs, 7 assists. Eli Pietrowski had 14 and 6 after a 19 point outing yesterday. Middleton had 11. It feels like corbin will only get better. They are all starting to share the ball more. If they continue to gang rebound good things will happen. Saw north laurel’s reece davidson dominate game 1 in gatlinburg. There game 2 loss he was kept in check by the miami (the name is escaping me) team’s athleticism. He was ok in a 43-42 win today. Rawlings shot the ball very well 2 of the three games. Both corbin and north laurel went 2-1. I lost track of pineville.

Never heard any updates on the player we discussed earlier in the Corbin-HC thread. What's the story?

Not sure, HCS. He was listed on the roster from before the season started up until a week or two ago. The only thing I can think is that he decided to focus all of his time and energy on the gridiron, rather than on the basketball court. Let's face it. That's understandable, since that's where is bread is buttered. He already has multiple D-1 offers and a plethora of other suitors that will ultimately be bidding for his services. The young  man still has two more years to grow even bigger and stronger. He's gonna make some money on weekends, down the road.

I assumed you'd asked someone by now.
It sounded like you thought I was crazy for not seeing him on the bench when I mentioned it the first time.

No, I talked to his daddy shortly before the football team departed for the western part of the state. He remained on the basketball roster until very recently, even after the football season ended. I haven't talked to anyone about it since football ended. As far as I knew, he was supposed to play but I guess he was persuaded to focus on the fall sport. You're a good reporter . I enjoy reading your stuff, especially about the 13th region. All good reporters are nosey, and you have that going for you, as well. I prefer the word, "curious," though. You are a curious sort. (Btw, I am, as well) And, for all good writers and reporters, that's a good thing.

The CFIT looks like it’s going to be a corbin/bell finals matchup unless the little miami team from ohio can play. Seen where they are 4-2 and was not ranked in the top 100 of ohio last season. Definitely not Knoxville Catholic from two years ago that was in the CFIT. Bell and Corbin are an interesting matchup of two totally different styles. Bell plays best in transition, and matches up so much better with the loss of physicality in curry, worley, and stewart who was the most physical guard in the region last year. Corbin has emerging young star akins who can put up 30 if needed. Plus eli is the matchup nightmare where he is so physical and still skilled outside the paint. I think the two headed monster in the paint for the redhounds being broken in half with the gradation of worley last year makes it a lot easier on bell to survive in the paint where it should be neck and neck. The matchups to watch are eli vs buell and akins vs burnett if that’s who coach P chooses to put on burnett who has gotten back to almost 100 percent putting up over 20 in the last 3 games.

Great analysis. You are very good at breaking down basketball.  I look forward to that likely Corbin-Bell final in the CFIT. Should be a dandy.

I totally agree Gridiron. Blake has really bounced back from his slow start. I need to put him back in my top 10 players. Bell co is a real contender with a healthy Burnett. Last year Corbin pushed Bell around both games. Curry and Barton were very physical and somewhat bullied the young Bobcats last year. I think this year its a different story. One more year of experience and strength and conditioning will help them. I still think they have no answer for Eli Pietrowski. They must match his physicality. I do think the Akins/Burnett matchup will be key. Burnett has been a known name for a couple of years but no one anticipated Akins to be this good. Akins is capable of playing great defense but it's hard to keep a healthy Burnett down for the entire game. Whoever wins the point guard battle may determine who wins. Corbin trades the physical play of Curry and Barton for the more offensively skilled players in Ryder Akins and Dawson Farmer. Corbin must find Bell Co shooters early. If not, Corbin will lose. Bell is the best shooting team 1-5 than any team in the region. The question with them will always be their ability to match Corbin's physicality.

Right there with you. Bell County just beat an undefeated Christian Academy of Knoxville at home tonight, who was coming off a win against mad south. Burnett was a dominate factor late in the game, and Buell and Huff went toe to toe with a man named Caden Owens who can stretch the floor and take you off the dribble. Probably the best forward they faced all year, and they contained him enough to pull it out. Owens was the best player i had seen on the floor this season at bell high outside of mabe, and probably better than ashford.

Being able to focus on eli solely should make it easier, not easy but easier, than having 2 6’5 physical men in the paint. Buell has proved he’s tough enough to stand his ground. But the game will probably come down to physical guard play cause i have not seen many people be able to guard a healthy burnett. If he’s healthy from the beginning of the year, the bobcats are 9-1 and maybe 10-0 if they pulled it off against GRC, where he was a shell of himself. Same goes for corbin, they most likely beat harlan county, who had 5 extra weeks of practice off the gridiron, if they played today rather than the opening game.
