Ashland Blazer goes 0-3 in King of the Bluegrass
#1
Not a great weekend for Ashland....losing 71-70 (OT) to Woodford Co, 60-57 (OT) to Lloyd Memorial, and 72-57 to Butler County.
Good competition obviously, however the Tomcats fall to 3-5 on the season.

Woodford county is tough. They can compete for a ring this year. Glad to see Ashland playing against good teams

Not a good weekend for Ashland but they was playing great teams.

Not good results for Ashland but a very good learning experience for them. They played very good competition. They will not play teams like this in the 16th Region.

This is the difference between scheduling for 22+ wins and scheduling to win the Region. Scheduling just for wins does not prepare you for the tournament.

Plus the exposure Ashland, the Carter kid and the other players received at this event is important. Ashland will be fine in the 16th Region.

But, at some point you need to start winning some of those games. There are no moral victories at Ashland. Yes, they’re fine as far as the region goes. But, this team should have much bigger goals than that. This group should be a legit championship contender. Losing big games outside the region has become a habit. Ashland has been terrible in such games the last 2-3 seasons.

Like last year in the S16, they had Lyon Co dead to rights. Up 6, I believe, with a minute-minute & a half left. It took some effort to lose that game. And, it’s far from the only near-certain win they’ve inexplicably blown. GC in game 1 this season is another recent choke job. There is a NOTICEABLE drop off from Mays, IMO. Huge.

I agree w/ everything said here, it's common when a team has high expectations to schedule against the best, nothing better than getting you prepared for when you possibly play the best yet again in March, but at some point, maybe gotta win some of those games as well. Looking at their schedule, by far one of the toughest in the State, losing to Great Crossing, then a poor showing at the KOTB.

Definitely think they will be fine once District/Region play starts, and they'll be prepared for the big moment, just have to find a way to win.

After watching APB play big games my opinion is they need a PG. Teams in the past had Porter or Deboard. No real PG on the floor forces others to play out of position which hurts their scoring opportunities.

You are not wrong. There are a number of players that can fill the role but not a natural like Porter or Deboard. And by the way, thanks for making a constructive contribution to an Ashland thread. When you're shooting well, like against Boyd County or Archbishop Alter, the point guard thing isn't as obvious, but when the shots aren't falling, like at Louisville, you need a natural floor general. Someone on the team will have to step up and embrace the role or the Tomcats will win another regional (maybe) and get beat in the first or second round at Rupp.

Tomcats will be fine. Coaching staff is fine as well.

PG position will be find when those 2 get back. My take is I question the DAWG’S in them. I don’t see it. Best team in region no doubt. Lot of talent for the state just don’t have that dude.
#13
I believe Ashland has the dude they need and that is the Carter kid. As soon as Davis gets back he will go back to natural position. They are definitely the best team in the region.

APB coach is very good and only other coach in the Region that competes is the coach from Elliott County.

Ashland fans, just sit back and enjoy the ride. Do not let the haters ruin it for you.

When the Russell kid gets eligible it's over. Ashland won't lose again. Kid is the greatest basketball player in our region over the past 20 years.
He can dribble, he can shoot, he can do anyhting asked. He elevates the team to another level. God help any team in the state of Kentucky if he gets eligible for varisty this year. He will be the starting PG, mark it down.

He won’t start over Davis.

Greatest player in the region in 20 years won't start at point guard or won't start at all?

If he is eligible it would be a surprise. The two days of hearing his case sounds more like he won’t be. If he is and Davis is healthy. Davis starts. I think we can all agree to that. To be honest. He didn’t look that good playing in the JV games. Hughes. Kid has more upside imo

Yep recruits from Elliot and Boyd. Can APB develop one or is the Russell kid going to fill it if he eligible. Where is any of the PGs that the staff at APB developed from their program? Honest question?

Best kid in basketball in last 20 years? That’s pretty generous especially with kids like Carter and Spurlock. Best PG in region maybe. If Davis is healthy and Neel is eligible that makes APB tough. A PG always on the floor both getting minutes.

Recruits or transfers whatever you want to call them..tell me one program in region that doesn’t or hasn’t had one in last 5 years. Elliott, Morgan, Rose Hill, Fairview, West, Lewis…the rest all have them.

That is saying apples and oranges are the same. Recruits-Coaching staff actually going into other schools, txt, phone calls, or golf courses and actively asking them to come to APB. Transfer-a kid on his own wanting to transfer without a staff member actually recruiting them or making promises. I should not haft to explain that. No one has a problem with a kid transferring on their own. Explain this one to me. While on probation for recruiting and having to report to the KHSAA of kids who come into the program. APB had ZERO!! As soon as they are off. 4-5 kids just randomly show up? We all know better.... If you really wanted to be respected as a program. Which no one does in the region due to this type of behavior. Develop your kids and not recruit other Region teams best or better players...then act like you are some type of high character program. Again, yes just about every school may get a transfer due to his situation at his previous school but to get 4-5 and be caught doing it multiple times in the past few years. Let's call that what it is.
