I met a man about 50 years ago at Lone Mountain boat dock on Norris Lake that had caught 2 mud cats. One was 91 lbs and the other was 107 lbs. Ugliest thing I ever saw and when they brought them out of the water for us to see, I could have easily fit my child in that monster's mouth!!
I'll take the 10 lb large mouth!!

Those mud cats/ flat heads are my favorite catfish. The heads on some of them thing's is as wide as a hood on a truck. That's what they remind me of anyways!
I've caught some weighing in the 50s. Guess I'm half way to 100lbs!
I don't target bass much, idk why, I did when I was younger. Biggest bass I caught was 7lbs. That was on accident. I was fishing a bluegill/shell cracker bed, when I caught it, on a red worm, with 4lb line I've caught several nice bass like this over the years on accident, using a red worm as bait, while trying to catch panfish.
I'm happy to catch those big bass while bluegill/shell cracker fishing. But it's kinda disappointing. Think I've got a state or world record panfish. Get it to the bank and it's a bass lol

I caught a 17 lb hybrid at Norris one fall. We seined a bunch of chub minnows out of the creeks here, and would point fish with no sinker. Nearly got my arm broke a couple of times!!!
That's a brute of a fish Granny, Congrats on catching it!
I've never caught a hybrid. Paintsville Lake has got some good ones in it now. I've seen some brutes in the spillway while trout fishing. So those hybrids really got my attention this year.
I took my catfish gear to the spillway this past fall, trying to catch one of those hybrids. I looked ridiculous with that giant gear! Most people had light weight tackle, trout fishing. I stuck out like a sore thumb, attracted a lot of attention lol
I was using shinners and chubs for bait. I'd drop right infront of those hybrids, they wasn't interested.
There's been some good hybrids caught at Paintsville Lake the past few years. I've heard a few predictions that a state record hybrid, might possibly come outta Paintsville Lake soon.

I did see some hybrids chasing trout.

The chubs we always used were huge, and very very slimy!! I would lose one out of three trying to get it on my hook! With no sinker, they would roam around a whole lot and I didn't have the brake on my rod, so they would straighten out my line every now and then. I LOVE fall fishing!

I'll take the 100lb Catfish
10lb largemouth all day. Ain’t nothing better than sitting out on the lake all day and getting a bite with it being a 10lb largemouth I caught a 7lb it made my whole summer.

A buddy of mine, his dad, years back caught a 10lb bass at Dewey Lake. He was into tournament fishing pretty heavy.
Years ago, when Yatesville was still a young lake, we'd catch a lot of Bass. The Bass was so thick and heavily populated in there. We'd be using chicken liver for bait, on the bottom, fishing for catfish. And I kid you not, we'd catch a lot of Bass like that!
On YouTube, I like to watch Richard Gene the Fishing Machine. He catches a lot of good Bass. He catches a lot of good any kind of fish! I think he's from Northern Alabama. I watched a video of him and his buddy Fishing last night. It was pretty much one giant Bass after another they were catching. He's probably the best all around at fishing I've seen, catching big every type of fish.
