Nice win for FC today, Rowan lead much of the game but FC made a comeback to win by 7.. Played at Wayland Gym...

That gym is very nice since the renovation. If you haven’t been to see it and you’re a roundball fan in the mountains then I highly recommend it. The city of Wayland did a great thing bringing that gym back to life.

Definitely a nice bounce back win for FC after the OT thriller against BL the night before. Could've easily been a let down game after such a high emotion game on Friday. But have to give them credit for hanging tough with a good Rowan team, of course being at Wayland will always have that nostalgic feel, and like the last comment before me, they've done such a great job renovating and restoring the gym, and bigger plans are in the work as well in the future to make it even better. Congrats to FC on a nice win.

Yea the gym is beautiful. I've been to a lot and played in a of the old gyms in Floyd and some in Johnson co. Wheelwright,Garrett, Maytown,Auxier, Mcdowell etc.... Its very nostalgic and brings back a lot of great memories.. I smell the floor wax and popcorn whenever I walk in.. Love it

Lucas is Howard was the game changer. I know they got Chris spriggs who is a beast along with Wesley buck, Dylan Boyd and the others but with the way the 8th graders playing he really changing the outcome of game for this team.

Is the Howard kid coming off the bench still or starting now?

Yes. I don’t give it long till he starts can’t have a kid who’s arguably getting a double double every night on the pine.

Exactly, with that kind of production and rim protection, no way you can keep him out of the starting 5 much longer.

Howard should be starting now. FC’s biggest weakness is their post presence and he doesn’t fix that immediately but he helps with it a lot. 58th is pretty weak in the post overall this year, so if they can get decent play from him the rest of the year they’ve got a shot at it. He’ll be a force to be reckoned with in 2 or 3 years.

Who do you bring out of the lineup? Meade is a guard along with spriggs or do you bring samons out where he’s a forward. It’s either meade or samons

I think they're better either way, and it would be worth a shot for Coach Moore to try it both ways, but probably Meade. Tough call to sit a JR for an 8th grader, but I think that lineup gives them a better chance to win the 58th because of the size. Also allows you to bring an experienced leader off the bench for a bit of a spark when they need it. I'd keep Sammons starting for his size and length on defense and let Meade come off the bench as the 6th man to rotate with Johnson, Spriggs, Boyd.
1- Spriggs
2- Johnson/Boyd/Meade
3- Buck
4- Sammons
5- Howard
I'd go Boyd and Meade off the bench early and often to keep fresh legs on defense against the fast guards in the 58th. I don't think having Buck as their best post player is working very well either. He is a great young talent but he probably should be playing like a 3 on defense instead of like a 4 or 5 like he has been. Let Sammons and Howard guard the rim and free Buck up to be athletic and force bad passes on the perimeter. That would help with FC's fast break opportunities to have Buck running from the wing instead of from the paint, too.

Good thing you ain’t the coach!
Spriggs and Boyd aren’t going to come out the game unless they have another shot show reffing crew, like the Rowan game. Meade has to be in there to guard the best player, Buck is an athletic freak, Samons has that mid range jumper and is a good long defender. With Howard off the bench it supplies that instant spark, although I think he should be playing more minutes, and Johnson, when hitting, he’s a handful. If FC could get everyone going at the same time they won’t lose a game. If you’ve noticed they’ve had a different leading scorer every game almost. They’re shooting the ball no where near the percentage they should be shooting right now.

Pente and Parsons did anything they wanted the other night against FC. That's a huge problem, man! They shot the lights out from the perimeter and slashed them for layups almost at will. What's your answer to stop or combat that the next time they play? My answer would be to keep a fresh guard rotation on them and play with more size in the paint. If your answer is to hope and pray they "shoot the percentage they should be shooting" next time and try to come out on top of a shootout with BL missing 10 FT's again then you're just flipping a coin. Meade and Spriggs were on Pente all night and he scored 34 on them. Obviously, If they can't beat BL then they can't win the 58th.
To say that they "wont lose another game if..." is silly. Go look at their remaining schedule, it's pretty brutal. I don't think they will beat JC, Lawrence, Martin or Pikeville without Howard starting and playing most of the game. Those teams are all bigger and faster than FC. Doesn't matter if Spriggs/Johnson/Boyd combine for 65 in those games if Howard and Samons don't rebound and guard the rim then they'll give up 90 to those teams. I think the play of Howard and Buck were the main reasons they took BL to overtime, not the Spriggs/Boyd/Johnson/Meade performances. If you go back and watch you'll see that Coach Moore played Howard almost the entire game. He knows how valuable he is but I think he's having trouble working him into the starting lineup over upperclassmen. I think FC has a good team, they just aren't complete without Howard on the floor.
Also, for the record, I'm glad I ain't the coach at FC as well.

About moving him above the upperclassman into the starting lineup without any judgement being thrown at him. He’s a good coach and will play who he thinks needs played and id say he has different lineups in at different times for reasons and who they are playing. Doesn’t matter if Howard starts or not he’s still getting huge minutes and maybe more than a few in the lineup. All starting is in my opinion is getting ur name called before
Tip off lol. Howard’s comes in off the bench and brings a spark off the bench and changes the way of the game with his size and ability’s. Let him develop and right around district time he’s gonna eat in my opinion. Think Alan Jo is doing the right thing as of now just playing Howard off the bench and not causing problems with parents but hey what do I know im not the coach and ill support his decisions with whatever he decides because it’ll be for the good. You’ve only lost 1 game with the lineup you’ve been running so no need in changing things. Also Howard is still in middle school and has middle school games and practice so I’d say he isn’t there all the time like they hoped he was. Let Alan Jo Moore do what he thinks is best and Coach how he wants.

I agree with that. Don't get me wrong, I think Coach Moore is a very good coach and he is doing a very good job. My opinions don't contain anything at all against him, just opinions on how they could be a little bit better from what I've seen. He sees these kids at practice every day whereas I don't. He knows them better than I do. I have never spoken to any of them in my life and I just watch the games. I don't think he would make a decision to start or not start a kid based on judgement from parents or fans, my thought was more along the lines of him being worried about negatively affecting the team chemistry by starting an 8th grader over a JR. I do think that by the end of January we will see huge amounts of growth from freshman Buck and 8th grade Howard who are both still extremely inexperienced because of their age. They both may end up emerging as options 2 and 3 behind Spriggs by tourney time, we'll see. I just think at this point, from what I've seen, they are better served with a better chance to win with Howard on the floor as much as possible, including starting the game with him. You saw how poorly FC started against Rowan. They spent the whole 1st half trying to recover from the early run that Rowan went on to start the game. I think if Howard is in the game those early runs don't happen, but maybe Moore has a reason for not having him in at the tip. Either way, I hope FC wins every game they play except when they play against the blackcats.

If you go back and watch the BL game Howard only played 18 minutes. Fc had them beat until they gave up a crucial offensive rebound in regulation. Spriggs had like 22 and boyd 17 i believe, pente had 34 and he’s been shooting out of his ass so far
The Rowan game was a terrible game. Refs were the only reason FC didn’t win that by 15+. They beat them boys to death physically

FC's biggest(arguably) issue is size, no post presence. Even Howard, as good as he is, is not "big".. Not yet anyway(plenty of time to get bigger though and he will Im sure) but he gives them some post presence and rebounding they sorely need. I'm not saying he needs to start, not my call but I do think if not for him adding some rebounding and some good garbage baskets then some of those games would have turned out differently....
That said I don't think size will hurt FC too bad this year because there's not much size in the district anyway..
