Is this an upgrade?

Stonebraker did a good job at Casey, they were always in the mix come playoff time just never really in the mix for a state title... but I think they did make the final four once or twice? Then he went to Adair and went 17-6 overall and 10-2 this year
Adair lost in round 2 but they lost to the union county team who will be playing for the championship this weekend and Adair gave them their best game of the playoffs so far

Stonebraker is an outstanding hire. Is it a homerun? Time will tell. He really brought about a renaissance of football at Casey. They loved him there. Not just a good hire but a VERY good hire, imo. While I'm disappointed I didn't get a call back, I admit Stonebraker has way more experience than me, plus he has a way better head of hair. Maybe I'll get the Pineville job. Or better yet, maybe I'll be the next Boyle coach when Salmon's takes the WVU job and Haddix takes over for him at Corbin.

If this was the hire after Clay Clevinger I would say it would be disappointing... where the Danville program is currently then this is a very good hire.
What you get is a Coach who is not afraid to work hard and build something from very little. I would argue Stonebreaker is exactly the kind of Coach Danville needs right now to get positive momentum.
Is he going to lead them back to the State Finals or the expectations the program had for decades? Doubtful... but he can be the guy to get you on that path.

This might give give you a feel for the new Danville coach. I think this is an outstanding hire. His track record of building up and rejuvenating programs is very good. Casey was even pretty competitive with us(Corbin) the season he had them at peak performance. Very good hire by Danville. I'm rooting for them to be champions again.
Let me also add to my last post:
I am not saying Stonebreaker wont be that guy.. its just we havent seen evidence of that yet and he has been busy working his way up in terms of school prestige.
He wont be the guy to immediately revitalize Danville, but Danville is not in position for that anyway.
Very good hire. I outlined in the preceding thread that Danville should look at some of these programs that are seeing success despite having limited resources and look to see if they can get those guys coaching and succeeding on board. I think Stonebreaker fits that bill to a T.
He made Casey County competitive and was making Adair competitive. That's not an easy task! Imagine what he can do if given time and patience with the Danville name, resources, and potential talent pool? I think this is one of those hires 65-6 years from now we say "Man they did well, didn't they?"

Wasn't he at Jeffersontown in Louisville?

If he can just keep the kids that are supposed to go there he’ll succeed

I think this will be good for the admirals. Can’t necessarily get worse than a 0 win season.

Just the next fall guy in a failed program, and an aloof admin..... He cent do anything other than improve danville.. but its a 10 year job to make them really legit at anything...

Great pickup for the Danvillians. Hopefully coach stone can turn things around.

This is a good hire because Stonebreaker has rebuilt a couple of programs already. If they can just keep 50% of the kids that have been transferring out recently, they will be way more competitive than the last couple of years. He won't be an instant fix, but he knows how to do more with less and that's exactly what Danville needs right now. I wish him luck because 2A football gets a lot more interesting when Danville is in the mix.

Gotta be the coolest name in the KHSAA coaches. But bringing this program back will be tougher than breaking stone. This guy has the intangibles to do so. Has a great offensive scheme. Very balanced and quick, i think that brings excitement in a school to play. I know the worst thing to try and install and try to keep athletes in the program is the wing T or power I. Coming in and having the motto we are gonna spread the wealth and be a balanced offense makes it a lot easier to keep that RB or receiver in the program.

Not so fast, cowboy. I disagree about it having to be at least 10 years. They can get there in under a decade if this guy gets everyone's support.

He never made the Final 4 at Casey, but he did go to Regional Final, and only 2 loses that year were to Corbin. Which is zero shame in that. The next season only lost to Corbin in the regular season, and the 2nd round lost a close game to Powell County. He won several games and was in a district with Bell and Corbin. Also won a district Title at Casey County. Had 2 successful years at Adair County.
IMO good hire because Danville needs someone with a track record of rebuilding a program from the bottom up. Not all coaches are built for that.

I dunno how I feel about the hire.
On one hand, he had success at Casey with a couple of really nice seasons if you consider the schedule. The first year at Casey he went to the third round of playoffs and beat by Corbin. Sure, it’s third round and that’s bragging rights but they didn’t beat anyone of consequence that year outside of Estill County who’s cupcake schedule did them no favors either. Casey was good, but dang sure not great. Over the years of beating no one I’d argue his next best season was 2022 and again, who did they beat? If the schedule is fluff, then it doesn’t tell me much.
If Danville is scheduling like they did this year they aren’t going to see dramatic results. If he comes in and fluffs the schedule then maybe but that only last so long until your district will be LCA as your top dog and if Washington County projects up, that could be a battle.
Maybe I’ll eat crow. But right now I don’t see the same excitement others see even if it’s an upgrade from what they had. The best decision is adding KT Turner to the sidelines and keeping some continuity.

Danville is on the right track.
The question is how long will it take?
One thing they did right was move Kelvin Turner (KT) to the varsity staff from the middle school level. He has always had a solid program at Bate Middle and has a great relationship with the kids. This will hopefully help keep those kids in the school system.
Being in 2a, the return of being relevant could be quicker than if they were in 4a, 5a or 6a. Note: I said quicker, not quick- at least 5+ years.

I know nothing about Danville but if I was on the hiring committee and there was an applicant named Stonebreaker he’s getting hired.
Heck change the team name to the Danville Stone Breakers and you have a shot at pulling some of those Boyle County athletes into the quarry.

It's definitely an uphill fight and the cupboard is basically bare. But there is a lot of pride in that Danville community if they think they have a decent coach they will support him. Once you get that first kid to stay home it starts to snowball. I would think the schedule would look a little different next year too. If he can get a couple of wins early (even against cupcakes) the momentum will start to build.

I see several people on here that don’t know jack about the situation, In addition we don’t care about your opinion’s. Time will tell what this hire will do for the program. But BCHs is not historically a better program than Danville. Coach Stonebreaker just needs a little traction to get this train rolling again.

Stonebreaker just hired a VERY GOOD young D-Coordinator today, but I'll let them announce it. He's putting together a very good staff. Hope Danville can return to a competitive level.

That's a huge key. One guy can't change everything by himself. You need a good staff around you so that would be a positive start.

I just seen a day or so ago that he was already visiting the elementary and middle school kids to met and get some buy in. sounds like he is already doing good things.
