Dear Corbin and Raceland fans
#1
No Boyle, No Pikeville ....... still no ring.

First to Corbin.  Keep hope that Haddox wants to come back to be closer to home and forget about being run out of town by those that thought he was the problem, and not Boyle.  I think we're going on year 42ish of no championships, but don't let that hold you back from getting on here and telling everyone how bad their programs are and how good the Redhounds are and always will be.  Piss on everyone but the 'hounds!!!

Annnnd to Raceland. We are going on year ..... well forever since your last state championship.  I look forward to another year of you telling us how its Pikeville 1a and Raceland 1b and then everyone else is waaaaayyyy behind.  I know that nothing can  keep you guys from your blind faith, but a very small part of me was sad on Friday with blind hope that a title would somehow validate and maybe quiet you message board warriors for the next 8 months.  Either way, just remember that being the bridesmaid guarantees the invite!

So cheers to another year of mediocrity backed up by delusion, I look forward to reading all of your "This is the year" posts.

First off, its Haddix not Haddox and no thanks, I love our Coach. now let me say this as a Corbin fan, it is better to fail in the pursuit of extraordinary than to succeed pursuing average. I like our program, I love our kids and I will continue cheering these kids on year after year. Championships are the end goal but as long as we are facilitating kids getting scholarships and they are learning the life skills from playing the sport of football we are succeeding, we will continue to endeavor to persevere.

This year did only one thing for me and that was validate that Raceland will probably never win a title and “the year” isn’t ever coming.

I hear that it’s Racelands year in 2025…until they lose and then it’s their year in 2026… until they lose. If I were a Raceland fan, Id stop getting my hopes up so often. MAYBE if you had a Coach that could win against GOOD teams, you’d have a couple rings. He’s had the players to succeed over the years, and hasn’t been able to win. This year he had to stop Coffman. 1 player. Failed to do so and came up short. IMO Racelands loss is about 80% coaching, 20% players.

Well in his defense stopping a Power 5 Wr. that has a Div. 1 QB throwing him the ball with a 1a roster isn't the easiest. I don't think Salmons is the greatest Coach in the world but he's not an idiot.  The only way for him to stop Coffman would have been for him to get to Pennington and that's where Raceland failed.  Sayre's line averaged about 183 lbs soaking wet in a phone booth fool of toilet paper and Raceland couldn't stop the run or get to the QB.

I’m a diehard Ram fan and I’ll pull for them until the day I die. I’m also a realistic Ram fan and I realize that the Rams will most likely never win the big one as long as Salmons is at the helm. His “play calling” is way too predictable and way too conservative. The big fella likes to micromanage the game instead of letting the players execute the game plan. I really hate it for the kids because these last two teams had the talent to win both games.

I'm pretty sure he's stating, Corbin didn't have to go through Boyle nor did Raceland have to go through Pikeville this year. Yet still no ring for them.

Like you I am a diehard Ram fan and always will be.  Coach Salmons does a lot of good for his players and for the community.  From that perspective he is doing an excellent job and the community and is a good leader.

As for the actual football part I think he is a product of the system that he came up in. The majority of the staff at Raceland grew up in the same Raceland program that has historically not been able to win a title.

I don’t think the solution is a new head coach.  Coach Salmons does a really good job.  The key for Raceland to get to the next level is to stop bringing in alumni that have no experience with winning at a high level as support staff and to find people that have been involved with championship programs that really know what it takes to win a title.

Very well said.   Plus, let me say to the OP--- Eat my shorts, damn you!

Corbin had a fine season. Very fun team to watch. Got better and better as the season progressed. I think they exceeded what most expected out of this team. It was a fun rise. A lot of talent in the system, We will miss Kade but we have a dandy in young Salmons and a couple of Esteps if we need them. Next year should be fun, too.

And if mediocrity is competing for a title every year (getting there in itself is competing) and not starting basketball the 3rd week of November….sign me up. No one, including myself thought we would do more than win a district title and a maybe make it to a regional championship appearance this year. We far exceeded expectations. I’m goina stop posting the night after a loss and give it a day or so to settle. It was frustrating for sure, but I’ve watched the game several times and we were about 4 plays away from winning that game against Sayre. But those plays weren’t made, Sayre made those plays. They won…moving on.

Now for some rebuttal in regards to the basis of this particular thread…

Was Boyle delusional? Pikeville fans sure felt like regardless of what was in front of them that they could still win a title. Raceland had no reason to feel like they COULDNT win a title against a team they had beaten the year prior and were playing some of their best football of the year.l and that team that had beaten them the previous two years was not standing on the other sideline. No one outside of the Sayre faithful would have thought Sayre was better than LCA, Pikeville, Ashland, or Highlands. Was Sayre delusional to think they could win it all? They had no evidence to back it up. Delusion requires proof and without the season playing out there is no proof.

Get over it. Same as I’m over hearing the same gripe over and over. Support your Alma matte…support where your kids go…support the local team. If you think it’s THE YEAR…say it!!! Say it loud and say it proud.

Here’s my thoughts…

Rams get over the hump in 2025!!!

It is so HARD to win a state title. Soooooo hard. While watching the 5A game this weekend my son and I were talking about Raceland. He asked me if I would rather make it to the title game and lose 4 times or not make it at all. I told him I would rather get there and fall short than to not get there. Corbin lost by 6 in 2022. They were so close last year against Boyle. One or two plays away. People can make fun of that all they want but nobody wanted to play them last year. That was a hell of a football team. I know a lot of fans get a kick out of knocking a team that comes up just short a few times, but true football guys know how good those teams are. I'm a Bullitt East fan. 2022 was their 3rd time playing for a state title. In the second round game against Manual, the Chargers stopped Manual on a 2 point conversion to win the game. Their season almost ended in the second round. It's HARD to win a state title. Congrats to Raceland and Corbin. Both had great seasons !!

Is this a joke? He has gotten you there how many times?

I could understand if he was showing up with the best team every year. That isn't hardly the truth. Beechwood in 2017 ... pretty much all the Pikeville teams were better. I can agree to a certain with Sayre this year ... but I struggle to understand why you think he can't finish the job.

Spare me with the "play calling" crap. He does what the great ones do ... he tries to be balanced but still works to his strengths. There are countless teams who would like to have a coach who can get them there like he has. No other coach has got you there. Asinine logic.

Gotta agree there big time. I think we could for sure benefit from having an actual OC and DC. I just think it would make things easier on Mike. Mike has a great defensive mind and he does a great job putting the system in place offensively. I just think things work a little better for a HC when he has a coordinator on both sides of the ball to lean on.

All of that being said, how do you get rid of someone that’s taken your program further in a shorter amount of time than any other coach? It’s easy to say, and I have said it myself, “it’s time to find another piece to get us to the next level”…but damn it here we are again…different team…different coach…same result. A loss because we didn’t have “that guy” plain and simple. In 1A ball…MOST OF THE TIME…ONE guy can make two score difference on his own. Sayre happened to have 2 and the Rams were right there with a chance with 5 minutes left.

There were 30 other teams that didn’t have that opportunity this year. Ask KCD seniors if they’d have rather lost in the semis or at Kroger. Hell…ask Pikeville. They’ve won it and won it and won it some more. I bet they would still rather lose in week 15 than week 13. So how can you get rid of, or think you should get rid of, a guy that’s putting you in the position we have been in the last 3 years?

Every fan base longs for a state championship.   No shame in that.  The fact that Corbin and Raceland fans on here are unabashedly vocal about their team is admirable if nothing else.   Opportunities squandered?   I guess some may see it that way.   However….really good teams won championships this weekend.  Let’s not take away from those programs.  While the fan bases of Corbin and Raceland may felt like they had to be the odds on favorites……Belfry fans could have told anyone that those freshman from Tilghman in 2021 were gonna have a special season at some point.  You could see them oozing with ability.   If anyone watched Sayre this past season….you had to realize they were GOOD.   Scary good at times.   Despite the loss….Raceland fans should be proud of their accomplishments….and Corbin fans should feel good about the direction of their program.   Regardless of the coaching….talent at both schools are putting them in the position to play in BIG-TIME games.  Honestly ….as a fan base…you can’t ask for much more.

Excellent post. A lot of times, it's a couple or three plays that determine who advances in a matchup of two really good teams. That Boyle -Corbin game last season was so much fun, primarily because you had the two best teams in the state on the same field. A couple or three plays made the difference in who went on to win a well deserved title and who went home as a regional runner-up.

Well the OP is just banter to end the season to a couple of fan bases that are un-apologetically vocal about how great their teams are year in and out without much merit other than getting close a few times. Both programs are good programs with passionate fan bases, it just gets a little annoying in August September and October listening to them portray their teams as the '85 bears and lets me know that many have no idea about the game of football and are lost in a blindness of fan hood. By the time November comes around reality sets in for the fans who know the game  and things cool down.

I'll say this, I think Raceland's Salmons is a good Coach, but if you are going to have the support/facilities they have with the fanbase they have and have 55-65 kids come out to play football at the 1a level you have to be able to get the job done.  I don't know how many viewers are familiar with Kentucky 1a but the vast majority of rosters are 15-25 kids in uniforms.  Of those there are generally 5-7 football players and 15-18 kids that are just there, and those teams are going to be average 1a teams.  The bottom will have about 12-17 kids dressed with 0-2 football players. For Raceland to have the talent and numbers they consistently have, I think it puts Salmons in the hot seat if things don't happen soon.

If Corbin wants another title in the next 4 years their best option would be to kick about 75 boys out of the school building and drop to 3a or put in a request to play up to 5a.  4a is a gauntlet and in the last 4-5 years the top 2-3 4a teams would beat the top 2-3 5a and 6a teams. Corbin could be the 5th or 6th best team in the state and not talented enough to make the 4a state title game most years.

No shame in the game, I believe Belfry played up for a state title not long ago by requesting to play in 3a when they had the numbers for 2a but didn't want to deal with the LCAs, Beechwoods and Mayfields.

I think you're right. Of course, there are lots of variables. Winning a title involves a lot of skill but some luck, as well. I'd say the Hounds have a good chance at the hardware over the next four years. We'll see.

It’s not as simple as kicking 75-100 kids out of the school building and dropping to 3A when your enrollment is closer to 5A than most realize….Running that many kids off would solve nothing and be unethical to boot….Maybe one of these days I’ll have the time to sit around and hate on a high school football program and a bunch of kids but I don’t see it happening anytime soon…
