Somerset at Owensboro Catholic. Thoughts?

We have some friends with a son playing at Somerset, we will support them. Honestly,
I don't know much about Owensboro Catholic except what I have read about them along, I have
never seen them play. I guess we'll see what happens. Good luck Somerset!!!

Somerset is the underdog no doubt! But nobody expected cov cath to beat Boyle co either. It will be a tall task to go to Owensboro and win. I just hope Somerset has maximum performance and Owensboro has a let down game. Either way it’s been a good season and that’s why they play the game!

Somerset looked slow last Friday. That doesn’t bode well for them this Friday.

42-7 OCath

Im pulling for Somerset myself. I watched some film on this OC team and they are for real. I will say one thing, I am not surprised at all that Somerset is in the final 4. I knew when they hired Clevenger that it wouldn't take long to see Somersets name amongst the top couple of teams. This game no matter the outcome will have great impact on the program for the upcoming years as Somerset will continue to build and build. Just takes time and patience and then it will all come together. Good luck to both teams!!

I think OC wins pretty big.

I agree, they weren't overly impressive against a much smaller team either. OCath has a solid run defense, so Somerset will need to find a way to move the chains and win the time of possession or this one will get ugly.

I am guessing a 42-7 type score.
Somerset is run heavy and they’re playing into the strength of the Aces defense. Also, Somerset has very few answers in the secondary for Owensboro Catholic. Thats not a knock against Somerset, as most teams don’t have answers for the Aces.

I think a similar score to last year. Somerset stays within striking distance for a quarter or two but OC will pull away something to the tune of 49-14. From the games I've watched of Somerset this year, they struggle to move the ball at times. They've got some decent talent at WR and Bruner can get it downfield to them, but his accuracy and consistency is an issue and their offense relies too heavily on Hughes to carry the bulk of the offense. If they can get Lewis and Cimala involved a little more this week then they may be able to put up some points, but I just don't think there is enough there to keep it close.
What is Somerset's QB situation next year? Feel like if they can replace Bruner they should be improved next year with the talent they have returning and coming up.

I’m taking Catholic 42 - 14. Their hungry for their first ever state title. Assuming they win this game(which is not a guarantee considering Boyle County last week) They would either have to face Lexington Christian in Lexington, or Beechwood who is as big of an uphill battle as LCA. Maybe that game could live up to last years Mayfield-Catholic game.

this is a good question for someone in the know. Replacing a qb will be a big question mark.

Jacob Estep he is a big tough kid. Also I would look for Somerset to incorporate Hughes a lot more in some RPO type offense he played QB most of his freshman year. Somerset has a really good freshman class coming in with some really good skill kids with speed and some great big linemen kids. Somerset is going to be really really good the next several seasons. The 6th 7th and 8th grade classes are special. Most people in the know in the Somerset program believe this group is going to lead them back to the promise land.(11-26-2024, 01:28 PM)Shogun Wrote: I think a similar score to last year.
