Lexington Catholic at Christian Academy-Louisville. Thoughts?

I am hoping Lex Cath wins it.

The key for Catholic is going to be to not let the game get away from them early like last year. They fell behind and it snowballed on them.

Winner of this game takes the crown for Kroger

This is the 3A state final game essentialy. Lex Cath wins in a close one, but wouldn't surprise me to see it go in CAL's favor either.

Lex Catholic has the skill players to match well with CAL. It’s upfront that concerns me, but Bell Co. were huge up front on both side and look what Lex Cath did to them. I’ll say LC 21- CAL 14.

If any mountain school can do it it's Belfry, but still will be tough(11-24-2024, 03:12 PM)BigDawgPrez Wrote: This is the 3A state final game essentialy. I think Lexington Catholic will struggle unless they can get back to their normal offense (starting QB available). Anyone have information on his status?
I also think Belfry or Union County would beat Catholic in a close game if their starting QB was still out. I really don't think we will find out.

Christian Academy of Louisville and I don’t think it’s close. At all.

I actually think Catholic is better off in this matchup sticking with the offense they have run the past two weeks with a running QB. The best defense for Catholic in this game could be just trying to keep the CAL offense off the field because the one thing Catholic cannot do is get in a track meet. If CAL jumps out to an early 14-0, 21-0 lead then it could get ugly. Central went three and out on their first two possessions and it was 14-0 in the blink of an eye. If Catholic is able to run the ball effectively, stay ahead of the chains and have it close in the 4th quarter, then they have a chance.

I thought I saw his number out there but not familiar with the program enough to know if it was Kern until I looked at the game stats. So who & why is the backup QB #2 if he doesn't play in the backup role? I know Wasik was listed as a QB, TE, LB last season so he probably has experience at the posistion in the past even if middle school days (no, I'm not confusing him with his brother). He has looked comfortable in the past two games. He's a very good athlete!
I can see that point of view and definitely think avoiding a track meet would be in Catholics best interest. I just don't think they can move the chains enough in this fashion. IMO, they need their passing game to accomplish this.

Catholic will not win the LOS against CAL. I doubt they gave won at the LOS all year but I do think they have the athletes to beat CAL.
Defensively, Catholic is not going to play head up against any one They don't have the size up front. They will shoot the gaps and linebackers will fill quickly. That is what they do. They are well coached and the front 7 runs to the ball. They have 2 undersized but very good linebackers. Catholic DL will get washed out at times, but they get off blocks quickly and as noted above the front 7 all run to the ball.
Offensively, same thing. They do not move people off the ball. They shield the DL long enough for the ball carrier to find a crease. The OL will widen their splits to create running lanes. Catholic has a lot of speed on offense and can stress the edges of a defense.
CAL is the team to beat in 4A. I think Catholic, Belfry and Union all have a punchers chance to beat Cal. They each bring something different to the table in terms of offensive scheme.
To beat CAL, a team needs to limit #35, Cotton. He will be the best player on the field - both offensively and defensively. How you limit him, I have no idea but playing this level of competition is not new for Catholic.

I’ll admit, I was very critical of Lex Cath even before the season started just because I knew they didn’t have any returning OL/ DL and zero 200lbs on the team. Have zero QB play, only 1 receiver returning and I do not agree that the AD is the OC. So the boss of the HC is calling plays. So my question is, who is the boss or decision maker on the field? I knew and I called it that they will go 0-6 before they make a run in their district and playoffs… and here they are.
