I said in another post that Danville should target Larry French. He won two state Championships at Boyle and is third on the all time wins list in the state of Kentucky. Rumor is he is leaving Middlesboro this year. He is moving back to that area. He might not be a long term fix but could certainly get them on the right path. It is going to take someone like him to start to rebuild there. I wold be reaching out to him Tuesday morning if Danville cares anything about their sports at all.
#5
I've heard a rumor that Steve Stonebreaker is on the shortlist.
#6
Larry French won't be coming to Danville.
#7
There's gotta be a Chester Ford, Donnie Redd...Somebody that can get the community behind them again and get the program going in the right direction. Hopefully the front office folk have learned from their mistakes and let someone build them back up.
#8
With the mess Danville has got themselves into, IMO this will not attract a big name guy.

Danville needs to find a former player (1990s-early 2000s) to get this program back on the right track- someone who understands what it is like to play Danville football.

Regardless, this will not get fixed overnight, but they can be headed in the right direction soon. They return a lot of their playmakers and have some talent coming from the middle school level.

They need to take their time and get this right, or another mass exodus may be on the horizon.

On social media it looks like Kelvin "Dukey"Turner is interested. He would seem to fit the bill.

This will be a quick coaching search. No time to waste here, if they're serious about saving the program. I think the primary candidate has most likely been contacted.
#14
I heard a name, and it made me spit my drink out, in laughter!!! Danville continues to fade if True.
#15
any names or anything floating around or being told that front runners

9 times out of 10 when a keyboard warrior writes something like this there is 0 percent chance that they know anything. If you did you would say it as that is the whole point of a forum that doesn't use real names you can say it with anonymity.

Probably the best option? He coached under Clevenger and is an alum. Probably the kind of guy who gets what the job is for the community.

How would Danville fans perceive that?

I don't know anything about Kelvin as a coach, but he played during that last really great stretch of Danville's small school dominance. Sure the 2017 team was great, but teams like that were the standard at Danville up until the late 00s. That 2003 team that he played for was, in my opinion, one of the best small school teams Kentucky High School football has ever seen. He definitely understand what Danville could/should be. Does he have the chops to make it happen? I couldn't say, but he would definitely understand the assignment.

Hearing a very prominent name being kicked around. Currently employed…so I won’t mention his name. Will say he has definte coaching chops (multiple state championships).

No. Josh has a region title under his belt as the head coach while he was at LaRue County, but Outlaw is talking about a current coach that has multiple state titles.

Preston would be a callback to the past. Last worked in Danville in 2002-2003 before taking the Rowan County job. I'd just wonder how many more years he would have in him for what would be a rebuild. There's no question that he has a good record at a lot of stops, though, and if he's interested he should definitely be considered.

Coach from Floyd County, Jarred Jarrell or Wes Hager?

What about bringing in a “super group” staff of legends:

Mike Holcomb as head coach!

Gene Peterson, and Mike Whitaker to handle the offense.

Bring Jerry Perry in to run the defense!

Nope.

Are we talking about someone who knows how to win at a single A school by recruiting and doubling his roster from neighboring talent?  Wow!  That might be interesting alongside Boyle.
