Pikeville at Sayre 11/22
#1
Pikeville at Sayre. Thoughts?
#2
Thoughts? Pikeville runs for 3 miles and Sayre gets a few big plays from Coffman.

Pikeville by 3 scores
#3
Panthers 35
Sayre 14
#4
This will be one of those games that’s close but the score will get bloated at the end. I believe it will be a high scoring game with Pikeville putting it away late
Pikeville 42
Sayer 20
#5
Sayre gets a reality check from eastern Kentucky. Pikeville pulls away down the stretch just like Ramdad50 said.
#6
No padding of stats for Sayre in this one. Finally got to play somebody.
Pikeville 42, Sayre 21

Sayre is similar to last season and maybe a little better. Good record. Haven’t played anyone. Great skill players and QB. Well coached. They are going to score on Pikeville but it is going to be in the passing game. They can’t run it consistently against Pikeville and on the flip side they can’t stop Pikeville from running it. QB will get pressured and Pikeville comes up with enough negative plays to get stops and/or turnovers to win by a couple scores. Wet weather week and Sayre plays on grass so wet footballs and muddy field doesn’t match up with Sayre’s skill set. This is their Super Bowl though so I expect them to come out fired up but the eyes will get bigger as the game goes along and I don’t think they like getting hit. Pikeville will be healthier for this one and could get healthier next 2 weeks. Yes, Panthers should still be playing barring a collapse.

Taking Pikeville but Boyd County exposed Pikeville’s pass defense (and yes I know some of the defensive backs who start didn’t play) so Sayer may have some success throwing the football but can they keep the quarterback upright to me this is going to be an interesting game
#10
They keep the QB upright by throwing short routes. They don’t throw deep much so IMO Pikeville needs to jump some of those short routes. They don’t throw deep much and when they do it’s to Coffman. The question is has Sayre gotten any better stopping the running game? I don’t think they can stop the putty tats running game.

Pikeville 49 Sayre 14 Final
#12
Per Paris numbers, They rushed for 98 yards and threw for 115. 40 of those passing yards came off a trick play for a touchdown.
#13
Same Paris team who got smacked by Hazard and Ludlow were tied 20-20 with Sayre in the 3rd. Pikeville should win this game.
#14
Taking the Panthers but this won’t be an easy task!
#15
Wet footballs, wet track, spells advantage to Pikeville. Not only that, but don't think the run game for Sayre will be effective against the Panther D. Trying to stop Pikeville's run game will be a HUGE task whether wet or dry. Good to know that some players are looking healthy for this game as well.

Excellent bulletin board material! Pikeville's JV has played a tougher schedule than Sayre. Pikeville will go up and down the field on Sayre all night!

I hope Pikeville plays their best game of the year and absolutely leaves no doubt in this one. I have little sympathy for programs that refuse to challenge themselves in the regular season. Especially teams that have built up their program enough to schedule good opponents.

Panthers 55
Sayre 13

We had Sayre #1 following Campbellsville loss to KCD. Pikeville has proven with results they're still the standard bearer. Expect a game similar to Sayre-Paris here with Pikeville pulling away late.
#23
Sayre is small on both lines and at the LB positions. Not sure what they plan to do against Pikeville except load the box but not sure they have the personnel to be effective at stopping the run consistently against a good team. On offense, they may have a hard time keeping pressure off the QB and I don’t see a scenario where they can run the ball well. The weather may not be great for an air attack so it could make it even more difficult. I think Sayre may get a couple of TDs but as the week goes by, I think Pikeville is going to roll in this one. Still a lot of Lexington/Louisville media ranking Sayre #1 in class A and even #25 in the state. Pikeville better bring their A game against this juggernaut.
#24
While we are on the subject:

Maxpreps has Sayre ranked at #52 which I feel is generous. #85-#90 is more reasonable IMO.

Their SOS is by far the worst in the top 100 ranked teams at (-25.9)
only Bracken Co (-21.3) & Newport Central Catholic (-20.6) come close

For comparison:
Campbell Co has the highest SOS at (27.6)
Average SOS for the top100 ranked teams is (4.1)
Pikeville SOS (1.7)

Pikeville cruise in this one!!!

Lexington media LOVES Sayre. There is no way they are even close to a top 25 team overall. I think it's the Chad Pennington factor because all they have done is put up huge numbers against bad teams with zero success in the playoffs. I think Pikeville rolls in this one.

I feel like we have seen this story with Sayre before. I just don't get these teams that want their record to look good and just schedule the weakest competition. I think Sayre has some good players but they have good players that have not been challenged at all. So now you are in the third round of the playoffs and you are going to get challenged and you don't know how your team is going to respond. Outside looking in I would rather challenge myself in the regular season so I can see a response from my team and so I can see what our biggest flaws are so we can work on them. Sayre is going to get exposed by Pikeville and they will not know how to respond and Pikeville will run away with it in my opinion. I don't see it being close and I don't see them throwing it all over the place because the QB is not going to be able to sit in the pocket all comfortable, he is going to have to scramble and throw some on the move. Not going to throw a score out but I think Pikeville wins big.
#28
This will be a replay of the game with Raceland last year. Coffman gets a couple tds and Pikeville has a million yards on the ground
#29
After this game pikeville needs to go like their assistant coach brad and get off the dang field. They’ve had a comeback since the rough start of the season but you guys putting them at winning are truly out of your mind. Sayer is gonna send these Pikevillepussycats right back where they belong.

I think the Panthers have nothing to worry about this week. Sayre has played teams with about 15 players on the roster. Their record looks like that only because they won't play anyone they think has a chance of beating them. It's honestly embarrassing. It's not about a winning or losing record anymore; it is about who has consistently improved throughout the season, and the only way to get better is to play teams that challenge you.

Pikeville: 45
Sayre: 14
