There’s not enough basketball being talked about in the 15th Region. Who’s the biggest sleeper team in the Region?

I'll agree that there isn't enough conversation when it comes to the 15th compared to other regions.
Of course you have your favorites, Martin Co will be right up there with Pike Central, Johnson Central as well.
I think one sleeper team that everyone needs to keep in mind is Paintsville, their pedigree is similar to Central, very young core mainly consisted of sophomores, not many upperclassmen on either team, and as we seen last year, if you can make it through the battle tested 57th district, you've got a good shot at going to Rupp. Watch out for Paintsville, coach Slone has that chip on his shoulder and it rolls over to his team, they have the chance to make a lot of noise this coming season.

I would say Phelps and Belfry are the biggest sleeper teams judging by the few things I’ve seen and heard.
Phelps has the players from Canada and Belfry has hit the portal hard in the offseason.

i dont know a thing about their talent but it looks like belfry has got themselves a good basketball coach he is hitting all the right buttons and doing the right things we will have to see how he commands the ship especially when waters get rough but he is doing all the things that have needed to be done for a very long time

Gotta be Belfry. D&D posts almost everyday, workout videos, and media days tell me they are a force to be reckoned with. In all seriousness, those are some great kids but the coverage shaded to them is expected but just weird.

I know why it’s happening but it is still just weird and a bit much. If you are good, other people will say it for you. You won’t have to toot your own horn, beat your chest, or say anything.

my problem isn’t with d and d talking up Belfry, I expect that, they’ve done the same thing wherever there kids are, if I had a kid and owned a media company, I would cover my child too, when Thomas son was on Betsy Layne we got all the coverage and same when he went to Floyd Central, Prestonsburg gets cover because of Keathley kid. Mingo Central gets covered because of David Jones, no different then WPRG OR mountain top covering Pikeville when there kids went there in my opinion. I honestly don’t see them hyping up Belfry cause they ranked them 9th in region I think, but my issue is them sleeping on Betsy Layne, I think we looked very dangerous this weekend. Keep sleeping on the Bobcats, we will shock everyone this year

jc is not worth the hype, been overrated since a fluke game last year in the 15th region tournament. Can’t be a “sleeper team” if everyone is already riding you like a cattle
11-18-2024, 11:10 AM
Prestonsburg have maybe three people who can spell basketball on their squad. Martin county is full of tatted up pretty boys. and Pike Central is a one man wrecking crew. If you ask me I’d say Pikeville is the most complete team easily

Im looking forward to seeing FC play this year and Im sure rooting for them, that said something just does not "click" with them(the team/program) at times... They have had much better players than their records would indicate. Something is just not bringing them together as a cohesive unit for some odd reason...and I know a ton of those kids, real well... Its not a lack of talent, I know that

Coaching has been the thing holding them back.
Talent has always been there, arguably the most talented team in the region the last 2-3 years, always had sub .500 records, they did win district last year, made it through the super region and to the expo center but bowed out in the first round.
No sort of structure or discipline on the offensive side, basically just run & gun, score as many points as they could. No adjustments whether in game or at halftime on both sides of the ball. If something wasn't working, or they were getting beat in certain defensive sets, coaching staff really didn't do much to make any changes.
Can't blame the kids for that, like I said they've had the talent, and albeit young, they have the talent this season, but coaching will hold them back again when it matters.

More Betsy Layne hype from the Superstar. Maybe if they had someone other than Mike Howard running that squad. So much for all those transfers Superstar "heard about" which wasn't surprising. Mason Hall should have been coaching the Bobcats, but he doesn't play politics or allow "daddy ball" to rear its ugly head and Floyd County can't have that kind of coach. As far as Floyd Central goes, Alan Moore makes a better assistant than head coach. Floyd Central has the perfect basketball mind in that school teaching in Brandon Gearheart but for whatever reason, they've continued to stand by Alan and not live up to the hype and talent.

Saw him last year at Betsy Layne actually coaching while Mike just chewed gum and pondered his next sermon. Awfully classy of Mason not forcing Brayden to leave the Bobcats behind to play at Wesley or Floyd Central.

LC is winning the 58th. They have a lot of talent and arguably the best coach in the 15th region. This new point guard is gonna surprise some people. Perry and woods will be tough to guard and there gonna play harder than anyone in the 58th. Pretty deep this year also. Every year people sleep on LC, but that’s what we like.
