Not really a shocker on the final score. SOS matters.  Congrats Bobcats, let’s keep it rolling going into the playoffs.

Feel better knowing someone beat a team you couldn’t? Prestonsburg went 4-1 against the same teams they went 0-5 against last season. Not sure what else you could ask for? Don’t think anyone expected a turnaround this quick nor did anyone expect them to win 2A. We’re happy with the progress. It’ll be even sweeter when your skill guys are playing here next season to build even more.

“Exposed” is kinda a dumb comment! Prestonsburg played the schedule Coach Brewer had already made, correct?

Breathitt has played a more difficult schedule. But this game doesn’t expose anyone.

Prestonsburg has had a heck of a season; exceeding most everyone’s expectations.

Breathitt played a beefed up schedule; had a tough break with some kids getting hurt in a bad accident; etc.

Probably a nice win for the Bobcats and maybe actually meant more to them; than “undefeated” would have meant for Pburg.

Might not be the smartest thing to admit on a public forum that a school is recruiting another school’s skilled players….. but these days no one cares about that sorta thing. So- go get some Blackcats!! Lord knows you’ve sacrificed to other schools around the area to help them win titles! LOL

I don’t see anyone leaving Martin County for Prestonburg. Plus Martin County skill guys are pretty good Wrestlers and basketball players so you really think they will leave?

Yes. I think it was a surprise to everyone when one didn’t come this past offseason. But remember Coach Hager coached these guys at Martin Co. They love him. That means a lot. But let me also say that I don’t have a kid on this team nor am I connected to the staff. Simply rumors like everything else.

Ha! Pburg isn’t recruiting anyone. It’s one of those things where Hager had relationships already built with these kids where he coached there. Many times when coaches make a change, kids follow. Happens a lot. Especially now that it seems like transferring is a free for all.

seems like the stars are alligning for pburg to play mc again. One could only hope.

Breathitt was the best team Prestonsburg had played all season by far but Prestonsburg may have been the 6th or 7th best team Breathitt had played. It showed.

And if it does it won’t be pretty for pburg, cards should have walked all over that bunch the last time they played. When you ex coach has your play book its a given

I knew coming into this game it was going to be a tall task to come away victorious. Breathitt County has a really good football team that’s playing their best ball of the season right now. They shutdown Pburg’s offense after the 2nd play and it put the Blackcat defense into a really tough spot and they just couldn’t matchup physically with Breathitt. Bobcats just had their way all night.

Haters can hate all they want, they’ve already been proven wrong. Prestonsburg is 9-1, district champs, and there’s still the possibility of hosting a quarterfinal game. This is a rebuilding program that’s simply been ahead of schedule. Tonight was a great reminder that there’s still a long ways to go to be near the top in 2A.

Going forward, Prestonsburg just needs to regroup, watch the film, learn from it, and prepare for East Ridge and a potential massive rematch with Betsy Layne. Can’t dwell on tonight’s game very long.

Best of luck to Breathitt County on the rest of the season.

Proud to be a Blackcat!

Good morning, Einstein.

Are you saying that PBurg won because Hager knew Martin County’s playbook?

If Hager was their OC, then wouldn’t they know his plays as well? I mean I think everyone knows what PBurg is running. It’s just can you stop it or not. Breathitt County obviously can stop it.

I just think PBurg and Martin County are evenly matched. If they somehow play again, it would be another good game. PBurg didn’t even play their best (at least 2 turnovers) but just found a way to win then.

As for Breathitt County, congrats on the win. They have a pretty physical team and that was the difference. That OL was opening holes and really taking it to PBurg’s undersized front 7. We aren’t build to come from behind just yet.

I’m proud of the Cats still. I don’t think anyone predicted 9 wins this offseason, myself included. They’re ahead of schedule even with the weak schedule that was inherited.

Most of you people on here are absolutely ridiculous. So much hate toward a high school football program for no reason.

2024 Prestonsburg is nowhere near the teams of old. 100% realize that. We are nowhere near on the level of Pikeville, JC, Belfry, etc etc. anyone who says they are don’t know anything… although I’ve heard no one do that. Most people around town realize we are rebuilding and rebooting. For the past several years- this program has been ON THE BRINK OF DEATH.

Wes Hager has came here and played the schedule he was given, excited the community, and gotten the most out of his players. Period. 9-1, and a district championship when most people (me included) thought they would win 3 games. This program is on the rise. It may take 3-4 years to be really competitive with the traditional powerhouses again, but we couldn’t even tie our shoes correctly the last several years. People mocked the hiring of Hager, but he and his staff have exceeded expectations from top to bottom. I know getting on here and bad mouthing the program gets most of your all’s pants wet, but you have no idea what you’re talking about. I know we aren’t winning a state championship this year… I just wanted them to line up and play hard to be honest. Wes probably has a 99% approval rating in Prestonsburg besides a couple jealous folks that had the job or didn’t get the job.

As far as “recruiting” it’s not recruiting when you have kids and their parents from other schools WANTING to go to Prestonsburg. Every team around has cherry picked from the Blackcats for years since 2015. Funny that now they’re wanting to come here and it’s an abomination. Shut up.

And to the Martin County poster who commented “exposed” the Cards lost to Prestonsburg after winning 44-0 last year you moron.

Congrats Breathitt on the win!

As for the MC and Pburg game. MC was running the absolute wrong offense and using their personnel all wrong. They realized it one game too late and went back to what worked. They did not get out played. MC is hoping for a a rematch. They are playing their best ball right now as evidenced by their win last night against last years 3a semifinal team. We love Wes Hager and this MC fan is proud of him…but the record was “exposed” last night.

If they played that game next week Martin county wins by 2-3 scores. Played similar opponents and one gets clocked and the other wins by two scores.

I think this is a good post and honestly if not for some good fortune for Breathitt Pburg could have put some more points on the board. Breathitt on the first series going for it on 4th and long in their own territory fooled even the Breathitt faithful. And hitting the under thrown pass on 4th and 18 on the 2nd possession was fortunate. Then on Prestonsburg’s next possession they throw an interception. At home and senior night  things just fell into place early for the Bobcats and it put the Blackcats in a bad situation. A predominantly running team falling behind 3 scores in the 1st quarter and when the run game isn’t working has a steep hill to climb. Great season for Prestonsburg and it’s not over yet. Best of luck moving forward.

Prestonsburg is relevant again and that’s good for the mountains.

The 9-1 record is impressive for where they were but that isn’t what makes them relevant to me, it’s the hate they are getting.

It’s good to be hated and feared for what you’ve done and can do.

Breathitt is gaining confidence each week. Young guys was thrown out to wolves early in season . But each week you see them get better and gelling . This not same team they were earlier in season or heck 3 weeks ago. This group has been through a lot from off season car accident to transfers from last spring . But there resilience help them improve each week. They will not be an easy out in playoffs , bobcats are playing their best football right now. Hopefully they just keep improving and get win next week vs Walton Verona .

I don't know if the word exposed is how I would best describe the outcome, but we sure got took behind the shed by the Bobcats. To be exposed, I feel like a team would be considered a heavy favorite, who everyone expects to win, or make a long playoff run. I don't think that's the case with this Prestonsburg team. Everyone in Prestonsburg doesn't expect this team to compete for a state championship, hell, most people including myself didn't think they would win three games, but Hager has this program ahead of schedule. My heart was telling me we had a chance, but I knew deep down that Breathitt was another animal. Our lack of size and experience showed this game, and Breathitt was ready to make a statement, in which they did. Breathitt has a lot of young talent, and they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

The one thing I didn't like was how Breathitt handled themselves in the second half, when the game was out of reach. A lot of late hits and dirty plays could have injured or led to ejections, which both teams don't need heading into the playoffs. I have heard this has become a regular occurrence with Breathitt of late, because I never heard of any Holcomb teams being dirty. To me it was classless and uncalled for.

As far as Prestonsburg, we have to regroup and regroup fast. Hopefully, this will be a good learning experience and we can get refocused, because Betsy Layne is going to be foaming out the mouth for a rematch. I'm hearing Adams is going to be out for the foreseeable future, but Harris is expected to be back following an injury in the first half against Breathitt. Either way, we better get back "gassed up", because if not, Betsy Layne will leave Prestonsburg playing for a regional championship. Hail Blackcats!

Are you kidding about conducting them self. Every single play PBurg was trying to fight. We got flag on it and refs would set look when PBurg done something and call nothing.  I was apart of some best teams Breathitt ever had and I promise u we were a lot dirty than this we just a lot more sneaker and didn’t get caught.

We had kids spit tobacco on people eyes in 90’s so I hear people talking them teams of 90’s wasn’t dirty. Yes we were!!! That why teams hated us. We just knew had get away with more. So was Prestonburg them Belfry was dirty as we were. I just get tired hearing about how team 90’s wasn’t dirty. Yes we were !!!

I hope you aren't taking pride in playing dirty? There is a difference in being physical and being dirty. I saw the late hits out of bounds with my own eyes, and you would think at home, Breathitt would get the benefit of the whistle, but they had numerous personal fouls on our drive which resulted in a td. Hell, I saw the coach take #2 out of the game for his antics. Good luck the rest of the way, we will have to agree to disagree.

No it football. Prestonburg got away with a lot that game. I seen a lot with my own two eyes. Yes Breathitt had some thing need to clean up . #2 has came long way. Last year he would threw a punch if that happened. He has grown leaps and bounds on controlling his actions. Not taking pride in Breathitt being dirty but u hear people get on hear saying that never happened in State championship years. I’m just saying Pburg and Belfry and Breathitt were very dirty teams back then. Honestly I want kid show little fight every know then. Like said it Football!!!
