RUMOR - John Derossett Stepping Down At Magoffin County
#1
Anthony Wireman posted on twitter that he heard that John Derossett is stepping down as head coach of Magoffin County High School.

Has anyone else around the program heard this?

Let's be real here Magoffin will always suck at football. Not Derosset's fault

Past two years their middle school has been really good. Take belfry out of their district and coach derossett could make some noise in a couple years in the playoffs with those kids.

If true, does he continue coaching somewhere else or does he spend more time with his family?
#7
Could he be making himself “available” in case another job comes open in the area??

Or is he done?

Unfortunately it is true, Coach DeRossett “retired” yesterday. I’m not getting in to details, but I don’t blame him for stepping down before a handful of people got the satisfaction of getting him fired. A petition started going around last week, calling for the firing of DeRossett, assistant coach & DC Kevin Woods, and the OC/Line coach Nathan Perkins. Idk if this petition would have actually done any good cause the AD and administration love DeRossett. I really don’t know what anyone could say to them about DeRossett to make them change their minds. I know this season wasn’t the greatest, but what were people’s expectations? We literally lost 98% of our offense from last season. We started a freshman and sophomore in the backfield. I’m sure there will be a few pissed off at me for telling what’s going on, but anyone that knows me, knows that I don’t give a shit. I figure I might as well tell what’s going on before a bunch of crazy rumors get started. Don’t be surprised if ya see a mass exodus of players in the near future.

Heard on pretty good word from a couple of places that this is true. I could see his name being thrown around for a couple of jobs not too far from home at the end of the season.

There is a reason that places like Magoffin and Morgan can NEVER build a sustainable winning program….

No, there are MANY reason…LOL

Apparently some at Magoffin Co don't care about winning.  Coach Derossett pours his heart and soul into coaching.  I believe he was building a solid program there.  Their loss will be someone else's gain.

Let's get into the details.

Who wanted him gone? Undecided

Run out of town the best coach that you have ever had or ever will have after only 3 seasons. Smart move! A coach that has won numerous district and regional championships just a few miles down the road and coached in a state championship game- Think they'll ever even get a whiff of any other HC with that kind resume? It was a small chance before Derossett, but that's at a 0% chance now. Getting Derossett was the best hire they've ever made and they still screwed it up! It'll be daddy ball from here on out because every decent coach that may have ever been interested in this extremely difficult job is going to steer clear of this place for the next 10 years because of toxicity like this. Well done, Hornets!

I think Magoffin County just doesn't care about football. They will deserve every mediocre coach, every talented middle school player that transfers, and every 1-9 season they get for the next decade for forcing Derossett out.

I saw that Kevin Woods resigned over the weekend. Is this similar to what happened to DeRossett at Prestonsburg?

I just got word a little while ago from someone very reliable. I was told that Coach D hasn’t officially resigned from his position at the school or as head coach and that there was going to be a sit down with him to try and get him to continue what he had started. The kids are mad as hell and DO NOT want him to leave.

There’s going to be some openings this off season and I’d imagine John Derossett’s name is going to be in the mix for a few different jobs.

Magoffin folks may regret ever starting that petition.

Not many coaches out there that are as accomplished as coach John.

Id retire too having to deal with all the stuff hes had to deal with. Parents ruin everything.

If Floyd Central comes open I’d give him a call. I’m sure he’d be interested to be in a district with Pburg.

I’ve heard there’s a bigger school that has interest in John.

I am going to suggest Magoffin scrap football and use facilities and start soccer would seem this would suit the entitled Karen’s that started this mess, fans could still yell about game they know nothing about.

I'm hearing something about B&B. Belfry and Bingo!
#26
i am intrigued somebody slide in my dm with details
#27
Belfry got a decent coach the last time they hired a Pburg guy!!

But after all this time, won’t that job be a legacy hire to any of the long-time assistants?

I’d say maybe up a class and a few counties over !!!
#30
Well, that could be anywhere from Mason to Bell. KY has a lot of counties…..

What local future coaching great does the pine knot torch mob have pegged as JD’s replacement?
