RPI Pairings 3rd and 4th Rounds Class 5A (Example)
#1
Are the 3rd round of playoff pairings based on the entire class RPI?

So as it currently stands if we just imagine the higher RPI teams winning rounds 1 and 2. No offense Highlands.

The RPI standings would be:
1) Cooper
2)South Warren
3)Woodford
4)Bowling Green
5)Atherton
6)Pulaski
7)Grayson
8)Southwestern

Cooper vs Southwestern.                   Cooper VS Woodfood

South Warren VS Grayson.                 South Warren VS BG

Woodford VS Pulaski

Bowling Green VS Atherton

Ok, So here is all the districts and teams. In the 3rd Round, only the East teams will play the East teams and you take the top 4 RPIs in the East and they will seed 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 for Round 3. Same goes for West take the top 4 RPI teams in the West and seed 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3. So after Round 3 only 4 total teams will remain, so they will combine East and West in Round 4. The seeding will be the same for the East and the West in Round 4. 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3.

NOPE ... RPIs for the entire class only come into play in the semifinal round , I believe. Prior to that, teams are still split into East and West, and seeded 1 thru 4.  In the semifinal round, all teams, east and west , are seeded 1 thru 4. Bull, correct me if I'm wrong.

If correct, I read Highlands will play Collins in the first round. If Collins doesn’t play a very competitive game against Great Crossing next week I think Highlands wins against Collins fairly easily.

I would think the game would be at Collins correct?

If seeding holds, the second runs games in the East would be:
Highlands at Woodford County
Scott County at Cooper
Southwestern at Montgomery County
Madison Southern at Pulaski County
There's a good chance South Laurel beats Madison Southern and Conner beats Scott County though.
So the RPI ratings in the East would be:
1. Cooper
2. Woodford County
3. Pulaski County
4. Southwestern
That would have Southwestern at Cooper and Pulaski at Woodford in round 3.

In round 4 Cooper and South Warren would be 1 and 2, so they would host the whoever is left. If Pulaski pulls off a win in the rematch with Woodford County they would be the #4 seed and would play at Cooper in the semifinals.

It's kind of funny that you had the round 3 matchup for Pulaski correct, even though you weren't using the system the KHSAA uses.
