14th region thoughts for next year
#1
I think Breathitt will take a big step back with KP graduating.  Lose a lot of important pieces.  About 6th or 7th in the region.

Wolfe is will be the top team in the region I believe.

Letcher 2nd.  Hazard 3rd.  Estill 4th.  Perry 5th.

A big step back from what? It’s been a decade since their last district title and I can’t recall them winning a game at the region tournament for a long time.

As far as the rest you’ve got to put Letcher Hazard Wolfe and Estill as your top 4 in no particular order. Any of them could be considered for the top spot. From there it’s a drop off to me

Medusa. You can dream on about Wolfe being the top team in the region. Since Pennington is gone they’ll be the top in a terrible district but top in the region will never be. HollerRat. I’ll agree with you on a few of those teams being in the top 4 but I just don’t see Wolfe. Personally I’d replace them with Perry along with the other teams you’ve got listed in no particular order. Can’t count out the returning talent and a Bobby Ratliff coached team.

A Bobby Ratliff coached team? Does that mean they are going make a lot of errors? I feel Wolfe will be the strongest team in the region. 54th district is just as bad as Wolfes district. Perry will be good but losing Morris and Grigsby is going to hurt them bad. Perry’s pitching will be somewhat weak and untested.

A Bobby Ratliff coached team? That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all day. Perry will be lucky to win their district this year. They’re continuing to get worse and more people leave year after year. Only one thing remains the same. The captain in charge.

I just don’t see it.  Pitching and catching will be a struggle unless bobby hits the transfer portal. I’m concerned Leslie will knock us out of district

You’re exactly right. Pitching and catching will be hard to replace and it’s pretty much packed them since he’s been at the helm. They’ve got a couple of decent bats left but their two best ones graduated. They also don’t have anything to replace their pitching and catching with some you guys could sure be in trouble. Fabio will grow out his pony tail, hit the portal and make some promises and all will be well in Perryville.

Estill will have a new coach

Will Mike Taulbee apply?

I think Perry will win the district. The fields girls seems to choke in big games or don’t want to pitch against tough competition.
Perry got a big pickup from hazard also

Not very nice to call out a kid and use their name on her like that. Since you’re a Perry fan, didn’t they choke against LCC in first round of the region last year? Hopefully a mod will remove your rude post.

I think you and a lot more are sleeping on Leslie county way too early. Perry will be extremely lucky to make the district championship in my opinion. Losing morris, Grigsby and McAlarnis will be an uphill battle all season long. Not a lot of young kids there that’s exactly ready to fill those voids.

Heard McAlarnis would return to Perry to play softball. Any truth to that?

For Perry’s sake they’d better hope she comes back. If not, it’s liable to be a long season.

Perry will be good with what they have. They probably have one of the top coaches in the region. The Dixon girls and Hoskins kid can take a team a long ways in this region. Also have some good young talent.

Pitching will be a struggle for several teams in the district/region this year. And I don’t mean that these teams have horrible pitchers, it just looks like several teams will only have 1 pitcher which isn’t healthy/safe for the players. Perry and Breathitt both lost their Ace. I am not sure if Perry has more than the Mullins kid. Mullins is a great pitcher, it is just hard for one person to pitch every game and it allows room for injury in my opinion. Hopefully, they have someone that can help lighten the load some. Breathitt’s pitcher is just young but in a year or so when she gains more experience and confidence in the circle, she will be tough. If Noble is still at Wolfe Co. they will be strong with pitching but do they have another pitcher? We all know Hazard has one of the best pitchers but I know she struggled with her shoulder towards the end of the season which is worrisome. I hope the off-season has allowed her to rest and recover because she is fun to watch in the circle. Not having multiple pitchers really hurt and I get so tired of hearing about the pitching being a natural movement which leads to fewer injuries than baseball. It doesn't matter how natural it is one girl can not pitch every game along with practicing pitching without causing some kind of injury. I think district and region both are up for grabs and there will not be a clear-cut dominant force. I do know I am ready for softball season and I am excited to see how these teams look.

Also, did Breathitt hire a coach yet?

I don’t see anyone else taking that over

KHSAA Shows the boys basketball coach, Jeff Honeycutt as the coach.
