Raceland 29 Newport Central Catholic 7

Ugly game. Way too much of an advantage in turnover margin to only put up 29 points.

Didn’t see the game, but this is a nice win for Raceland- no matter how you stack it.

The 11 penalties against Raceland didn't help.

Might have been a different outcome in this o e if NCC could hold onto the ball. Idk how many turnovers they had for the game….im guessing 4. NCC had some nice looking kids but just not enough of them. Raceland couldn’t block an old truck on blocks…pitiful line play. All you can do is keep getting better.

I can’t believe I’m “consoling” the Rams after a win in. NKY v NCC. Remember, NCC has been a powerhouse football program in NKY for most of its history. Wasn’t Sphire the all-time wins leader for a minute? When you play hard, you generate turnovers. I think Raceland takes this win as a big time confidence booster. Maybe Pikeville is down enough that this is their year, in an off year, for some of the established powers???

I agree. I think they will struggle against Hazard next week.  The first half was really flat and Raceland was just lucky that NCC lacked depth and wore down. If they don’t clean up a lot I can’t see them competing with Campbellsville or Pikeville.

Really strange game. It was like you could do whatever you wanted to do but kept screwing it up with penalties
#9
Very odd atmosphere as well. No music. Crowd were flat. Just really odd evening lol

Probably due, in part, by the fact that NCC has never had a home field. It’s amazing what they do without so much as a game day- facility!

I know where you’re coming from but this isn’t the old NCC….not even close. I wish I could say the turnovers were caused by hard play but that’s not the case. Simple snap issues and one muffed punt. The Rams did enough to win and I’m glad we made the change at qb. Waller started the game hot and missed a few throws but made some good ones. I think we need to pick two running backs and stop trying to use every back in the roster. Next week will be a very good game

Ramadad- you are definitely right… in that - the best backs do the most damage when they get…”lathered up”!!!

Defensively Raceland is solid and that will be the piece that will keep them competitive in the Class A race. Offensively things are starting to come together especially now that the competition isn’t as good as it was on the front end of the schedule.

A big thing to work on is being more disciplined and not having as many penalties. NCC wasn’t good enough to capitalize on several of the mistakes made last night but a better team will take advantage of those errors.

Overall this team is coming along and I actually think they might be a more complete team than the teams from the last 2 years. By that I don’t mean they are better than those teams but overall more balanced.

I want to feel good about this game and as Blaze said we are finding balance which is a good thing. However, as Ramdad pointed out, if NCC could hold onto the ball we could very well have lost this game. In the end we are still young and it shows at times. I do like the direction we're headed and our growth is fun to watch.

Looks like Waller got the QB nod last night, and Ison at WR. I think that's their best lineup in my opinion.
#16
Long way to go. Atleast 2 empty red zone trips and did not capitalize on the turnover margin. Really liked the way Ison played. Looked a lot more comfortable and loose. Cooper made some plays last night that he hasn’t made early on and it was great seeing Rowsey back out there.

I agree with others that this is a game we could have lost if NCC didn’t shoot themselves in the foot. But two of those fumbles were caused by knocking the ball out, the other were bad snaps.

I do think though, that without the schedule we have played the last two years, prepared us to be able to over come the penalties issues. 5-10 years ago we lose that game based on that issue alone.

High stress day for many in the state yesterday. Hope everyone is safe and doing well this morning.

Ive told you guys NCC wasnt very good, they just NKY good. NKY football is trash all but a half a dozen teams or so.

I think we are at a good point in the season to start experimenting more offensively and we saw that last night. The first few games were more “survival” games and we couldn’t afford to be really creative. I think for the remainder of the season we will see things open up more on the offensive side. Defensively we are playing as well as anyone in Class A and I think that will continue to be the place that the foundation will be built on.

NCC had 60 total yards last night. They weren’t winning anything. We were never in any danger of losing the game.

Hate to argue with you but they stalled two drives inside the 5 yard line with fumbles. They should’ve had at least 21 points

Raceland played the best game they have played all year offensively the first 2 drives where very good except for the drop pass in the end zone on the 2nd drive and you cry baby ram lads are still crying the blues and if they get any better we may have a 3A state championship team and like RanADevil said they could run anything they wanted to and be successful

Not crying the blues here. Just talking Raceland football facts. The good thing is though, we are still a pretty good football team NOW. Not will be, but ARE. The record doesn’t show it, but this group has superseded my expectations. These boys have grown a ton since week 1. I was seriously concerned about our defense through the two scrimmages and week 1. But that side of the ball has been really really good. Offense is coming along. I was really surprised couldn’t run the ball better, but loved seeing the passing game improvements. Waller and Arnett look to be in pretty good sync. Hazard can not be over looked as the bulldogs come into Ram Land next week. Gotta keep working like we have been.

I agree.  Right now I think Raceland a solid #3 behind Pikeville and Campbellsville at this point.  Next week against Hazard will be another good challenge and then the schedule gets really easy before closing out with LCA.

The playoffs will likely be more challenging this year than last years and I wouldn’t be surprised for Raceland to run into Cville or Pikeville in the 2nd or 3rd round because of RPI.  I think this team is good enough to make it back to Kroger but the playoff road will likely be much more difficult than it has been in the last 2 years to get there.

I don’t know if they are #3 or not even thou Pikeville won the first game ( and we know how that worked out last year)  I think they have improved heads and bounds above Pikeville and I haven’t seen Campbellsville I really thought their offense was very good last night yes they could improve in spots but they are definitely better than they were in the Pikeville game

Coming into last night I thought Raceland was a mediocre team and was somewhere in the middle of the pack. Last night solidified their place as one of the top teams and I think it will be a tough out in Class A. The only game left on the schedule that is still in doubt is LCA and that game may end up being closer than I thought at the beginning of the season. This is also a young team and they will be solid for at least 2 years.

That’s because we were able to stretch the field a little bit and that always puts pressure on a defense. We did look 1000 percent better but wasn’t able to finish off those first two long drives….that will come. Over all it was a very good win after making back to back trips to northing Kentucky….especially after all the bad weather the entire state went through Friday
