Middlesboro at Shelby Valley (Game Cancelled) 9/13
#1
Middlesboro vs Shelby Valley. Thoughts?
#2
Middlesboro can get the win. However they lost both Defensive ends last week in coots who also plays TE and Polly Jr. who is one of our starting offensive tackles. Ima say Middlesboro takes it 22-21 in a close contest tho. They are getting better each week imo.

Jackets sting the Wildcats early and often.

Apparently Middlesboro has elected to forfeit (not sure why) but Shelby Valley now plays Eastern High out of Reedsville Ohio on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Shelby Valley.

Could it be sickness?

These are two below average, poorly coached teams. Neither have an identity on offense & don't worry about playing defense. If Middlesboro forfeits then good luck to Shelby Valley against the Ohio team. If there is no forfeit, Shelby Valley loses by two or three touchdowns at home.

This game being cancelled/forfeited by Middlesboro is a shame. Middlesboro has not played a full regular season (10 games) since Covid. Coach French refuses to do so, the excuses of injuries to cancel is a cop out, so he doesn’t travel to get beat. Yes there’s kids hurt but go take your loss like everyone else in the state would. The saddest thing about this game is Middlesboro could win it even with the injuries.

The boro might be a 1-2 win team this year. Holy cross has played an elite 1A school and suprise team of the state in grant county for their two losses. I’m writing that one off as a loss for the jackets. I think they win 2 out of 3 against camp, harlan, and pineville. After that no wins on the schedule. Cancelling this game to injuries is a cop out… period. Shame on the town IMO. Unless they would be in a scenario where they show up with less than 15 players, you go play the damn game. Hell i’ve seen lynn camp show up in middlesboro with 12 and then 2 got injured, but guess what, they played the game.

First off they will beat Holy Cross, lynn camp, Pineville, Harlan city and Williamsburg possibly. Neither of them 4 including Williamsburg come out of our first 3 games with a win either. Second of all considering Pineville is canceling their game due to injuries also. Wouldn’t that be a red flag that maybe thats not the actual reason?

What evidence shows they will beat any team on the schedule except lynn camp. Holy cross has played a top 5 QB in the state, and a bunch that averages over 8 yards a carry as a team. Pinevilles opponents are 9-0 and 2 are much bigger schools. The only win for all three of the jackets opponents is the jackets. Williamsburg and Knox will be blow outs. I’m usually on the middlesboro side of things but this team is just not very good at football.

Guys... (and gals)... it CAN'T be a FFT if the other team picks up another opponent.

Only time will tell. But id be willing to bet anything u want middlesboro wins 4 games at worst. Williamsburg hasn’t beaten anyone yet to where u can say their hands down the favorite. And after Garrard upsetting somerset last night maybe people will realize that 3 point loss wasnt such a bad loss after all. I cant see Williamsburg beating somerset but maybe thats just me. Do you really think Bourbon county is better that Gate City or Garrard this year?

Somerset scored 7 points at waynes world and knox central. Knox central to that point had allowed more yards than 90 percent of the state. Look at the scores of those games, minus the perry game which made me immediately think somerset was for real. Somerset is 100 percent middle of the pack.

We are all victims of the moment, but i use what data is presented for me. When somerset beat perry, i had them 4th in the mountains and some had them 2nd. 3 weeks later they are not in the top ten in anyone’s minds.

For middlesboro, the data presented to us through 3 games and one cancellation (should be a forfeit if it’s for lack of players or injury) is,
1. the line is not performing to par even against bottom tier competition
2. The defense cannot tackle, especially the run.
3. The best player on the field, Smith, has difficulty getting the ball. Should get 20 plus touches a game all in space, most he has got is 13.

3-6, first round at home for paintsville which is a toss up. At best 4-7 season and would’ve been 4-8 with SV

I don't know the exact rules for this kind of stuff.  But I'm guessing SV had a choice of either:

A. Take the forfeit and the automatic win, but the team now only gets to play in 9 actual regular season games.

B.  Find another opponent to fill the schedule, no matter how difficult the game will be, so you have a full 10-game schedule.

One other factor in the decision: at the start of the season, Valley only had 4 home games compared to 6 road.  Taking the forfeit would mean they would only get 3 home games.  That's rough on the bottom line (gate $) as well as tough on the kids and fans.  I don't blame them for scheduling a replacement opponent.

There's one more option.... call it CCD and BOTH teams play a 9-game schedule.

I guess that could be an option, but why on earth would Valley want to do that? Like I said, SV only had 3 home games after the cancellation.  They needed that 4th home contest, as would most teams.

no guessing to it... that IS the other of 3 options when a game doesn't get played.
