Awesome you are back on! I think Floppy Melons has hung it up but maybe we can bring Tiger Blues out of semi-retirement!

Floppy…Tigger Blues…and a few others I always liked going back and forth with have since departed. Idk where they went…maybe somewhere drinking a Zima with Clint_Westweed…

Serious question…what was the reasoning behind the Pikeville AD stepping down? Just time for her to retire? She’s done a really good job across the board it seems. Was a surprise to me to see her walk away.

Darn shame but glad to be back!  I see you haven’t let up a bit. Lol

Rumor mill has it that Paris has a boatload of transfers coming in from surrounding counties. Now how true that is IDK. Plus the new field hype of a orange turf.

Pikeville AD stepped down because she got tired of parents stupid shit. They will regret this big time and I can't believe the Pikeville Administration?

Pikeville football will repeat as class A state champions. Campbellsville will be good.

Raceland is not a top 10 team.

This is the dumbest statement ever. Do you know how bad 1A football is. If you’re suggesting that Raceland fell off so bad to not be in the top ten then….you know nothing about football.

Agreed. We will be down this year compared to the past few seasons but Raceland should still at least be a top 5 team and make it to the region final.

Wow…that escalated quickly with WarriorHawk…anyway…

Raceland will still be a top 5 team and have just as good of a shot as anyone to make it to Kroger to get beat by Pikeville imo lol. I look for them to be somewhere between Paris and KCD/Sayre last year in terms of how good we will be.

There’s a consistency now in the off-season program that really makes be think we will be better than a lot of us think we will be. Our regular season record won’t show it because of the non district schedule, but come November, we will be right in the thick of it to make a run at atleast the semis. 1A just isn’t strong enough for the “program” schools to not be in these situations. Hazard, NCC, and Letcher Co, imo, are the games that will tell us what we are realistically capable of in the playoffs. The rest of the non-district schedule is pretty stout and will definitely let us know what our weakness is.

One thing that is fun for me right now is starting with next years 7th/8th grade bunch, is watching these kids grow. I was lucky to have coached almost all of them in JFL. There’s a lot of potential in those groups for sure. And the incoming Soph group is really the first group that saw a high level of investment from the HS staff in the JFL. So it’s really interesting to see how that is changing the direction of the program as a whole.

Some lineman I expect to have impact as sophomores…Chris Crum and Garrett Elkins. Both have really good size and strength but are really athletic. Especially Elkins. He will be a sub 4.8 second 40 by the time he is a senior and will likely do that at or around 300lbs. Kids always been a crazy athelete for his size.

Simmer down now.  I agree that even though Raceland is down their program is not and they'll be a Top 5 team by season's end and I love our future outlook and the flow of talent we have coming and I also want to say thanks for putting your time and effort into our JFL program...but...there have only been two offensive lineman in NFL history that have run sub 4.8 40's at the NFL combine. It's a little more common with lighter defensive lineman but still very rare at 300+ pounds...maybe with dad or a line coach with a Timex and an itchy trigger finger. I also agree that these two young men will play an integral part of our success (sooner rather than later) and both have bright futures.

4.8 may be pushing it… but the kid can scoot for sure

I’m more interested in his mile time though. Show me a lineman running an 8-9 min mile and I will show you a kid who wins in the trenches. That’s a kid that can go 4 quarters in big games.

I believe Paris loses a ton of upper class talent ... including the Ransom kid and maybe all 5 starting linemen.  That said if I remember correctly they started like 7-8 freshmen including a QB????

The county is the hotbed for the transfer portal, the city is 15 minutes from Lexington, Georgetown and Clark Co.  If either school can put together consistently good years and find someone to build a program, they have a solid chance to stay at the top of 1 and 3a football with kids that don't want to wait until they are Juniors to see the field in Lexington and Scott Co. Paris seems to have a good start ... Bourbon looks to be in shambles.

I'm not super familiar with the Western Side of 1a, but to me, Sayre is the 1a team to watch.

1.Pikeville
1a. Pikeville
1b. Pikeville
1c. Pikeville

2. Sayre
2a. Campbellsville

3-10 - Won't really matter.

Sayre no doubt is on the rise.

Sayre is a school that could really be a major player in the years ahead. Pennington knows what he is doing and all that’s really left for them to do is build their numbers and the strength and conditioning program. Once that happens they will be a title contender year in and out imo

Sayre reminds me of the early 2000’s LCA program.  It’s hard to believe this now but LCA was really bad when they first started their program and within a few years rose to the level that they are at now.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see a similar progression of growth within the Sayre program over the next 5-10 years.

He wont be there much longer to see it happen.

Hearing KCD brought some transfers in…if true…what do they bring to the table this year?

Also heard that Paris is closing the flood gates of kids they have been losing to Bourbon Co over the last several years. If that’s true the Greyhounds could start to improve rather quickly.

What’s the word on Sayre? Not a lot of 1A preseason talk going on…sound off!!

Campbellsville is getting in shape and working hard… We saw the Standard last year in the Semi’s and are grinding to close the gap… We had a really Great senior class last year, and replacing them will take reps… This Friday night, we will start to see who is gonna be getting the majority of those reps.. Pikeville and Raceland pace Class A Football… Period… as I look around the Class A football landscape, I feel like there are a handful of  teams that can get in position to challenge those two programs… Good Luck to All this season…

Good to have you on here BP! I read on another site that Campbellsville got some good players tranferring in from Taylor Co. Can you confirm and if true how big an impact will they have this year? Either way, Campellsville will be hard to handle IMO.

Sayre is going to have to beat somebody before I give them any shot to contend. Their schedule is one of the easiest in the state and as soon as they play a good battle tested team I expect them to go down hard again. Probably going to be 10-0 going into the playoffs though.

I also heard Cville had closed the door as well on the kids they had been losing to Taylor Co and had picked up 5 or 6 from there this summer. Is that enough to make them the front runner for the number 2 spot this preseason?

They were already #2 without getting anyone off the waiver wire IMO.

Campbellsville lost 2 good LBs who I believe were also their lead backs, their best WR, and their best lineman/pass rusher. They do have a really good QB and another receiver who was impressive last year. They had some pieces left but would have needed to add or develop some players to be as good as last season because I believe Pikeville is better than last year. Sayre should be a handful offensively but can they do it against a good team and can their defense stop anyone? Raceland likely takes a step back but can they add or develop enough to make another run? I don’t know enough about Newport, Ludlow, or Paris. KCD lost a ton but they are in an area where they can draw transfers. Hazard will be better but too soon for them.
#58
This is really an interesting year for a lot of 1A. Other than Pikeville, the general consensus I’m getting is no one returns a whole lot. And Pikeville lost some really good players as well, but they return the most important positions, imo and they have proven time and time again there’s kids waiting in the wings. It’s going to come down to the wire in November, imo.
#59
I can confirm that Cross Watson and Bryson Turpin have enrolled at Campbellsville along with Cole Kessler. These kids are quality players and will impact games on both sides of the ball.. They fit in with the culture we are trying to create and are great additions to our roster…
#60
I know Pikeville won their 3rd straight title last December but I truly believe 2023 was the weakest team to win a state championship at Pikeville but they had a stud at RB nobody in Class A came close to containing. This year's Pikeville team will be better than last year's team regardless of what their record is going into the playoffs with their very tough 2024 schedule and they still obviously have that same stud RB plus a few more from what I've been told...and the defense has the ingredients to be special. The young talent they have coming up for the next several years is very impressive which is why if anyone was gonna take the Panthers out of the Class A playoffs last year was the year to do it. Coach MacNamee and his staff have it rolling right now with no end in sight.
