2024 Kentucky Baseball
#31
They beat the Cards last night 17-13 (midweek games aren’t known for pitching). In fact, their only losses are to Missouri, Sanford, Washington St. and Kennesaw St. (twice). When the Cats top pitchers throw, they win. Tennessee also has 30 wins, so if we could win at least 2-of-3 this weekend that would be huge.

Huge series Saturday

Fun stuff. Who knew the Bat Cats would be our best sports team among football , basketball, and baseball teams?
#34
Huge come from behind win for the Cats over the Vols to get the Game 1 win of the series. These dudes are for real.

Was at the series finale Sunday. Was hoping that Mason Moore (my cousin) would've had a solid outing, started out good letting his defense work for him, and the bats where hot early but the 6th inning was a complete implosion. Maybe I am biased but for those that were there would probably feel the same, but sure wasn't Masons fault, he was getting rocked and the manager left him out there to dry, finally pulling him after UT tied it 6-6. Sure wasn't a pitchers duel, 10 home runs combined between the teams. Hopefully this doesn't set Kentucky back any and they can keep the momentum going on what has been a historic season.

I don't think it sets them back. Tennessee was 4 in the rankings coming in. Cats need to bounce back against South Carolina this weekend.

Arkansas next weekend.

I don't think that it will either, but baseball is a strange sport where anything can happen. One thing is for certain, it doesn't get any easier with Arkansas coming to town next weekend.

Crazy how at the start of the season everyone was talking about UK being a small ball type team. Yes they still do it, but this team has really turned it up with the bats. Even in the loss to Tennessee they are putting up the runs.
#39
If we can go into South Carolina and take at least two of three this weekend, then I think everything is still full steam ahead. They would set up an epic showdown with Arkansas next weekend at home, might break even more attendance records.

Win the SC series and we should be a Top 8 Seed. Definitely going to be hosting a Regional. If we can secure a Top Seed and host a Super that would be a great situation. Going to LSU was an almost impossible feat last season for the Supers.

What a tough loss to take in game one of the series with South Carolina. Game was 1-1 going into the ninth, Cats get three to go up 4-1. Game over right? But Carolina hits THREE solo homers in bottom of the inning to force extras. Then after Cats get up 5-4 in the 10th, Carolina hits a one-out, two-run homer to win the game 6-5.

This loss scares me a little, might be tough to bounce back on the road after losing one like that. Cats have now lost three straight conference games.

Tough way to lose. Had it won and lost it twice. Gotta erase it out of mind to win the series.

Just watched game two on SEC Network. As good as it gets from an entertainment and suspense standpoint. Cats fall behind 6-1 after 1st inning, then drop the hammer with 11 unanswered runs to go up 12-6. But….Carolina cuts it to 12-11 going to the ninth. Just like last night Cats get three in the 9th, go up 15-11. And just like last night, Carolina rallies again on three walks and a hit batter, cut the lead to 15-13. With the bases loaded and two outs the Carolina hitter hit a rocket to center that UK center fielder McCarthy ran down just in front of the wall to win the game for the Cats. If we can pull out a win tomorrow, we should be back in good shape. It airs at 3 on SEC Network, I’d recommend watching if you don’t have something planned.

Yep that one had a little bit of everything in it. Glad they pulled it out. Going for the series win today. Next week is huge!
#45
Haven't played good at all this series. Down 9-0 right now in the 6th. Hopefully they can bounce back and get the win. If not, hopefully they bounce back before next weekend.

The fake fall on the steal to 2nd base to then distract the pitcher so the runner on 3rd could steal home was one of the coolest plays I've ever seen in baseball. If it was a true set up play for the runner to trip trying to steal 2nd

Not a good start to the series losing 10-3. Not sure what is going on but they need to get it together. Not looked good sense the UT series. Still got confidence in this team but they need to get some things back in order.

Great bounce back win today over Arkansas, 11-3. Guy they faced last night may be the best starting pitcher in college baseball. Huge game tomorrow, win and they should be back to a top five ranking and would have the overall best record in the SEC once again.

Great win. Arkansas was ranked second nationally coming in. A trip to an always dangerous, but somewhat down, Florida next weekend. Another 2-of-3 series win would be fine, a sweep would be glorious.
#52
Florida is coming off a series loss to Tennessee who I feel may be playing as good as anyone right now. On the road in the SEC is no easy task!
#53
Cats get three in the 8th, three in the 9th and three in the 10th to notch an unbelievable come-from-behind win in the first of a three-game series at Florida. The final three innings of this one were just unreal, momentum changing on every pitch. They play again tomorrow at one and Sunday at noon.

Good way to start the series off

Cats got smoked today 10-1. Very important that they get a win tomorrow to win the series. Tennessee keeps winning, they have drawn into a tie with UK at 19-7 in the East. They also would own the tiebreaker since they won the series with UK 2-1. Vols play at Vandy tomorrow.

Cats with another crazy win today. Led 3-0 almost entire game, Mason Moore threw great. Florida gets a two-run double in the 7th, then a game-tying solo homer in the 9th and load the bases after that, but Cats wiggle out of it. UK then put up four in the top of the 10th, only to see Florida get two back and have the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning. But the Cats got the big groundout to end it and take the series. Our guys are pretty animated, this was a major trash talking series.

Tennessee lost today to Vandy, meaning UK is 20-7 in conference heading into the final weekend, while Tennessee is 19-8. Arkansas was leading late, if they win they will also be 19-8 heading into the final weekend. UK hosts Vandy next weekend, Tennessee hosts South Carolina and Arkansas has to go to Texas A & M. So obviously a sweep gives UK the East title and the overall best record in the conference. Win 2-of-3 and it could get hairy, Tennessee owns the tiebreaker over UK. The UK-Vandy series will be Thursday, Friday, Saturday by the way.

Tonight’s game is the key one I think. Get that first one and take a little of the pressure off. Good weather tonight and I’m sure it will be a rowdy home crowd. Wish I would have had time to get to this one in person.

What are the scenarios needed for Kentucky to win the SEC outright?

And are we pretty much locked in to host a Regional or even a Super Regional?

All of this.
