Good win for the Lady Dogs

Hazard is dangerous, they play with young kids and if they hit shots they can play with anyone in the region. Maggard is capable of going for 25+ on any given night.

Maggard is tough but 8th grader Caudill dominated down low in this one.

Just goes to show you, on any given night anyone can go down.

Hazard has a solid group of young players but the game is made a lot easier for all of them because everyone gears their defense towards stopping Maggard. Every team that plays Hazard is going to see if Hazard’s young girls can make plays. When they do Hazard can play with anyone in the region.

Leslie had a terrible showing in this game. That happens at times, but should never happen in a district game. If these teams meet up again, it won't be close, JMO. Hazard kept screening Napier and shooting layups. Leslie wasn't aggressive defensively and had too many turnovers. Congrats to Hazard on the win.

Can happen again easily

Hazard's adjustment to the defense being centered around Maggard has been key. Earlier in the season they struggled with it and now the younger players are getting more comfortable with their roles. Still a young team and never know what you'll get from them but this is a big win for them. I am sure Leslie will go back and fix some things as well. Do they use RPI for their seeding purposes? Still don't know why the girls seed but not the boys (oh well).

Coach Howard is A+

I suppose the girls coaches have a little higher intelligence level. Shouldn’t be an option. KHSAA is gutless.

Human formulas determining brackets instead of settling it on the court during the season. However, Cantrall is probably better than a blind draw determined by a coin toss. That’s a terrible way to do it. Many years ago when we did that in the 56th in the ‘60s and ‘70s there were numerous years where the best 2 teams in our district and highly rated in the region (Lee won the region in ‘73 and Powell won it in ‘74) ended up having to play in the first round. You don’t always send your best representatives to the region in a blind draw format.(01-31-2023, 03:21 PM)Bluecat Wrote: Hazard's adjustment to the defense being centered around Maggard has been key. 54th is behind in the times and don’t want to do what’s right. Selfish

Go to the meetings and it's funny.
People in favor of head-to-head for the boys will say that it will allow them to play some games close by with bigger gates.
Then they'll say they don't want to tie up their schedule with the same six games every year in the girls meeting lol

In the 56th the girls/boys district games are always double headers. And the district matchups are important because of seeding purposes, which leads to bigger crowds than the regular season games. It adds more emphasis on those games.
