That's inevitably what people are going to say about the fact that CCH having no intention to request to play up in 5A. It is what it is. But it's not the fact of the matter.
The fact of the matter is that prior to any knowledge of whether Highlands would or wouldn't be a 5A school, CCH knew from their enrollment numbers that they were going to be a 4A school and more than likely not a very big 4A school. They're right in the middle of 4A. They have not been hiding the fact that they aren't going to be playing up because they know enrollment in Catholic schools in the diocese is low and they are very possibly going to be getting even smaller than their current 470 enrollment. They're doing what's best for their program, and what's best for their program is not playing up in 5A.
It's not like Boyle County is going to be any easier to beat for a state championship than Highlands is. And if you don't think CCH is going to keep scheduling Highlands during the regular season you're kidding yourself.
People 'gonna talk. Let them talk.

Trust me, I get it when we look at who is close by, but there is a cluster of 3a teams in that region of the state and the KHSAA is gonna make somebody drive to balance the districts out. This is just for fun anyways and who knows what the KHSAA will propose. I just hope the schools will have at least a couple of district games close. Two alignments ago, one schools closest game was an hour and a half away. All others were 2 or more. There was 3 schools in that class within 45 minutes.

Retired Oldham County/Jeffersontown head coach Mike Shatzer put together a mock Realignment.
2023-2026 Mock District Realignment
*** All placements were done with no schools opting to "play up" (except for Christian County)
*** I tried to keep travel at a minimum where possible (Kentucky is a long state)
*** I kept it at 8 districts per level, for ease of playoff match ups
*** There is one district in 5A with 6 teams due to size of area covered
*** I have no connection to the KHSAA, I'm just an old retired ball coach.
*** This is all purely speculative, nothing will be official until after the Christmas Holidays

If two teams in 2a ask to move up that will allow CAL to go 2a. Then you could have 2a adding Belfry and CAL.
12-08-2022, 08:32 AM
Belfry has not decided which class it will play in.

I am not sure but in 6A they really should be divided up with GRC, Madision Cent., Bryan Station, and Frederick Douglass together and then PLD, Henry Clay, Lafayette, and Tates Creek.
The reason for this is that geographically they way that he has them you would have to drive right by Douglass to go to Dunbar. Actually Douglass is the closest Lexingtion school to both GRC and Madison Cent.

Looks like Russell is back with some familiar faces with Lewis County, Fleming County, East Carter, and Bath County. This is the District before moving to the Ashland, East Carter, and Greenup County 3A District that Russell pretty much dominated from early 2000's to 2019. Russell had good games against Mason County and Fleming but most of the time Russell was 4-0 or 3-1 in that District and would seem to lose to Belfry in the Playoffs. So, with Belfry moving down to 2A this should be interesting for Russell starting in 2023. It looks like Ashland and Greenup move back to 4A which I never understood when Ashland dropped from 4A to 3A. It looks like alot of the teams back where they were at before the 2019 realignment. It will be interesting to see how Russell's 2023 schedule looks like now with these changes plus Russell dropping a couple of teams for next season.
Does anyone have an idea what Russell's schedule might look like in football in 2023?

It looks like Russell and Lawrence may stand to gain the most in the northeastern corner of the state. It's kind of funny that the future success of football programs largely rides on how the KHSAA decides to align teams.
Raceland getting Pikeville in their district would suddenly make those Thanksgiving practices a lot more difficult to come by. The alignment listed above, though, would spare the Rams of that path. Raceland owns 15 wins in a row over Nicholas, 13 in a row over Paris, and 8 in a row over Fairview. Pikeville has beaten Raceland 8 of the 11 times they've met including the last 5 in a row.
Ashland getting Johnson Central in their district would suddenly make their dreams of a state title seem nearly impossible. Like Raceland, though, Ashland would have to be happy with the alignment listed above as they own 19 wins in a row over Boyd, 24 in a row over Greenup, 15 in a row over Rowan, and 5 in a row over Mason. They've lost 15 of their last 17 to Johnson Central, though.

i’m just gonna beat around the dead bush here, but is it not ridiculous that our biggest and best class, and our smallest class, has no team that will not miss the playoffs. Am i crazy? How is that a competitive way to represent. You had 9-1 teams in texas and 8-2 teams in georgia miss the playoffs in their biggest divisions cause of how their district alignment rules are. I will never support an alignment where a team can go 0-10 and make the playoffs, or go 2-8 and have a home playoff game. It’s ridiculous. Each district in each class needs minimum 6 teams IMO. But we have to pay the consequence as competitive natured people so non competitive programs can have another game.
If i’m corbin or boyle i’m moving to 5A. There’s no team in that class other than woodford or BG that appear to have anything for the future but either team could be bested by the rebels or hounds. i’m thinking one team should avoid the other team and vice versa. I know haddix would like to have 2-3 more rings and they would look better if they said 5A. Corbin the same way.

Some of the projections I've read for 4A puts Corbin in a district with Johnson Central which would be at a minimum a 2 hour drive.

I would put them in with Lawrence County’s district and have a 6 team district if Belfry plays up. Belfry definitely doesn’t benefit no matter what if they go to 3A travel wise. Lawrence 53 miles
Magoffin Co 70
Russell 83
East Carter 94
Morgan Co 94
Clay Co 128

It makes a lot more sense to swap Todd Central & Crittenden Co, in my opinion. Also, don't think Fort Knox makes a lot of sense in District H geographically but I don't have a better solution.

I can tell he doesn’t know where Beechwood is located! Carrol County, Owen County and Shawnee is all closer to Danville and LCA than Beechwood is! There is no way Beechwood goes past through schools to that district!

Not saying I agree with his proposal, just that seems to be the logic behind it.

How is it logical? Carrol County, Owen County and Shawnee are all closer to Danville and LCA.

District Four - Bellevue, Dayton, Newport, Newport Central Catholic
District Five – Berea, Lynn Camp, Sayre, Williamsburg
District Six - Bishop Brossart, Frankfort, Nicholas County, Paris
District Seven – Fairview, Paintsville, Pikeville, Raceland
District Eight – Harlan, Hazard, Middlesboro, Pineville
Fulton Co to Caverna is a 4 hour trip on a bus, I dont want to here poop about first round playoff games if that is a district trip.

Add in St. Henry starting football and Cov Cath will be a 3A team very soon.

You proved my point that Beechwood is farther than the other schools. If the KHSAA does this it’s a joke.
