Raceland 38 Paintsville 14

Final

This game was a lot closer than the final score indicates. It was 10-7 with about 4 minutes left in the 3rd and Paintsville had a string of bad luck in about a 3 minute period to give the Rams a 31-7 advantage. Paintsville played hard and they have nothing to hang their heads about. Raceland played an ugly game and was fortunate that Paintsville had its blunders. We also had several stupid penalties and played a dirty at times and I didn’t really like seeing that.

Nice win Rams. See ya in a few

This game played out exactly how I thought it would. Raceland hasn’t played anybody with a plus in a month. The competition has been so bad we couldn’t even hold onto the ball when Taintsville hit us! I know you gotta play your district opponents but dang….this sucks. It took one half of football to get the Rams ready to play.Taintsville has some nice athletes but just not enough of them.Lundy isn’t good….he’s really not developed like I thought he would’ve. I hope we don’t have to rely on his decision making next week or the Rams will leave a ton of RPI points on the field at LC

Raceland took a minor step up in competition and got the win as expected. Next week, they step up a bit more with Lawrence. All these games really mean nothing for the Rams, though. This team was built to play Pikeville and all roads lead to that game. Hopefully Raceland just stays healthy and comes across someone with a pulse in the playoffs to warm them up before they face the Panthers.

He has a really bad habit of telegraphing his throws and looking one receiver and not going through a progression.  We are built more for a power running game and we moved the ball well when we focused on that and not going through the air.

Yeah looks like stiff competition, Lawrence struggled with Floyd Central tonight. Honestly it doesn’t matter, Raceland and Pikeville are on a collision course all just depends on where and when it happens. And trust me I look forward to it.

Congrats Rams. Hope it pans out that you come to Hambley for your annual butt kicking.
#10
Congratulations to Raceland and I tried to tell you in these rivalry games anything can happen at least for a half
#11
My biggest worry is 4 or 5 trips to the redzone in The first half and only 10 points to show for it. We should have been up 35-0 at the half. Just an ugly win. Didnt leave the game feeling like we had played "our game". Rather than got by on our atheleticism defensively.

Way to give up on your quarterback. I’m sure he reads or hears about the garbage you guys post on here. Should be a good confidence booster with the playoffs coming.

Congratulations Raceland!

Lundy is a great kid with a bright future. Is there room to improve? Of course, but that goes without saying. Theres no one else in the region Id rather have as our QB. He is one of the best HS student/atheletes I have seen and it has nothing to do with his play on the field. He shows up at JFL practices, comes to JFL games. Never fails to ask the KIDS to get pictures, ask them to throw with him. We played roughly early as a team tonight. This team goes as the defense goes. We had two weeks of easy football that our atheleticism just out classed two teams. Tonight was a good wake up call that we gotta bring it every night from the opening kickoff.

We played horrible and won 38-14. Good lord the world is coming to an end! Take the W and move on.

I think everyone wanted, or expected, last night to be a statement game for Raceland and outside of the 3rd quarter, it didnt go that way. I believe my prediction was 42-14. I wasnt that far off. As RAD said, we played pretty bad last night, especially early on, and still walked away with a convincing victory. Giving Paintsville some credit, they had a good game plan for the most part. They anticipated us selling out on stopping Phelps, and thats just what we did, RPO by their QB was really good and our coverage in man was exposed like crazy. Defensively Paintsville did all they could and really did a good job in the first half of taking away the big play. I thought we did a good job of getting downhill and ran the ball better last night than we have in the last few years.

After sleeping on it, my thoughts are a bit different. We turned the ball over 4 times, missed on 4 Redzone chances to score, and gave up some huge chunk plays in the passing game, and still won by 4 scores. Paintsville played hard, but simply didnt have the dudes they have had in recent years. For Raceland, LC waits down on 23 next week. They are playing good ball right now, better be ready for a fight.

Nobody wants to talk about the first drive of the game ?? WTH was that we ran down on the 10 yard line on third down?? Why does Mike do this? Some kind of trick play that we lost four yards on fallowed by a double reverse pass for a int! WTH ….WHY MIKE …..WHYYYYYYYYY???

This kind of stuff has been the case for what seems like decades at Raceland.  Somehow the coaches there always feel like they need to trick their opponents rather than just do what they do best.  Overthinking usually ends up going poorly.  I always just figured it is the underdog mentality permanently ingrained in the Raceland culture.  It may always be there until they finally get over the hump and hang a state title banner.  I hope they can do it this year, but Pikeville's results aren't looking promising.

Raceland is a really good team but not great. We have good playmakers but I’m not sure we have the explosiveness to be able to keep up with Pikeville should we see them. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised to see a team like KDC or NCC knock us off. At this point I’m just happy for having a good season and just enjoying it game to game.

I kind of feel like the Ram faithful has hit the wall that Pikevilles did early in the year. Things dont go as planned and people start questioning things. At the end of the day, part of our identity in the redzone the last decade has been some trickery. We havent really used it this year, because we havent had to. Tbh, we probably will need some theatrics, should we see Pikeville because I still feel they are a score or 2 better than us on a neutral site. 2 or 3 at Hambley, probably 3-6 points at our place. So seeing us go for a reverse pass, Hughes throwing out of the wildcat, etc, was the staff working on some things and trying to get a spark for an otherwise flat performance to that point. We will be fine and are still a top 2 team in 1A. One game at a time people.

I haven’t really hit a wall, I’m just going off of what I’ve seen on the field.  As I said we have a really good team but I don’t know if we are next level good like we need to be at to compete with Pikeville.  I think there are a couple of other teams at the same level as us that could beat us on a given night as well.  With Pikeville I think we are running into the same problem Ashland had with Johnson Central and Russell had with Belfry during their run.  The upper tier 15th region teams have simply owned the 16th in football for a while now.

Also I know we can’t help but who we play on the district but our strength of schedule hasn’t helped out all. Outside of the Highlands game we haven’t came into a game not being favored and I think that breeds complacency. My concern from last night was we didn’t have killer instinct and Paintsville played like they wanted to win more and if they had more Jimmies and Joes they would have beat us because they showed more heart. Again this is just my observations from what I’ve seen on the field.

^ Jimmies and Joes is the key. Raceland had much more depth and completely controlled the line of scrimmage. With their running game, I’m not sure I would’ve thrown the ball over 5 times. Depth and line play was the key last night.
Raceland made way to many mistakes last night to be able to compete with Pikeville.

I rewatched the game this morning and I don’t agree with you OB. When I rewatch a game I usually try and find mistakes that we make. What I noticed was at no point did I feel Paintsville was gonna be able to beat us. We sold out on stopping Phelps. That left one on one coverage in the secondary most of the night. Paintsvilles coaches done a great job of exploiting that. Once we stoped selling out to stop the run they couldn’t make plates down filed. The lack of competition the last month is the only reason this game was close for a half. The Rams have literally been playing on air for a month. Pikeville is going through the same thing. They won’t play another quality appointment until us. We have so many good players I fee that the coaches have a hard time spreading the ball around. They make a great effort in trying to get everyone involved but at some point we gotta roll with our best plays with our best players. It’s late in the season and tinkering with the offense needs to come to an end. I like Paintsvilles staff and I like their kids….I’m glad to see that dirty style has left and Paintsville is back to being the Paintsville I remember them being back in the day

I think Paintsville had a good game plan and did exactly what you should do against a team that outmatches you.  In the 3rd quarter they made a few bad mistakes that took them out of the game.  I agree we had controlled the tempo of the game for the most part but we let them hang around for too long.  I credit a lot of that to the play of the Paintsville players and their coaching staff though.  I can see Paintsville being back in the hunt again in the next couple of years.

Congratulations to the Ram players. I felt like they won the game despite poor coaching.

Simple statement here, Raceland will have to pitch a perfect game to defeat Pikeville on any field.

I find it fascinating that it feels like Paintsville’s players and coaches gained respect in a 3 score loss.
