Would Raceland take TJ back as a JV coach or something? I mean if you run Ivan off after what all he did for the school, community, and football program…..how long can this go on?

The last 2 minutes was game mismanagement by Maynard. What I didn’t understand was at the end of the game Greenup had 4th down with 18 seconds left and Russell had a timeout left and didn’t use it and let the clock run out. In that scenario Russell could have given themselves a chance to get one more play and anything could have happened. I can’t understand why a coach would give up when there was still a chance to win.

I don’t think it was the coach’s fault. Greenup would have run over them in the OT so might as well go for the win. Russell lacks depth. This loss is huge for them and the win is huge for Greenup. Russell will beat West Carter at season’s end but that may be it. They are primed to get their doors blown off next week at Ashland. Greenup on the other has a huge game at East Carter next week. I didn’t think Greenup would pull this off, and they nearly didn’t, but congrats to them for being on the road to what could be a special season.

Russell just doesn’t know how to win this year.  Once again they found themselves in a close game and couldn’t finish at the end.  I hate it for the kids because they have a good core group of athletes but for whatever reason that win seems to elude them.

Russell needs to get back to being RUSSELL

I think it’s going to be a few years.  This year’s junior class is average at best followed up with a couple more classes that are worse than that.  Go Red Devils seems to sometimes indicate their middle school is doing well, but their biggest challenge will be retaining their best players.  There are 2 bright orange options within a couple of miles from their school for players interested in football.  Russell is in a tough spot.

Which is what I meant by getting back to being RUSSELL. Sorry, this isn’t……RUSSELL.

I remember when Raceland and Fairview were- equivalent and irrelevant for the most part.

It’s really hard to believe Russell has fallen this far.  Granted decades have passed since then but I was I high school when Russell had their run in the early 2000’s and they were a program that was feared by everyone in the 16th region not named Ashland.  Their 2002 team was scary good and was in my opinion their best team during that run. After being around those great teams it is hard to watch this program be in the shape it’s in now.
