Greenup brings a 4-2 record to winless Russell for each team’s district opener. The Musketeers own an impressive road win over Lawrence, but have lost 2 of their last 3 to Boyd and Raceland. Russell has lost 2 games by a TD where they played well to Wheelersburg and Dunbar, lost 2 close ones they probably should have won to Boone and Montgomery, and gotten their doors blown off by Lawrence and Raceland.

Russell will either REVIVE and win this game, or their entire season may be in the toilet.
I haven’t seen them; is the ability there to win? What must they do to turn it around?

I think Russell has the ability to win all 3 of their district games. They showed that against Wheelersburg and Dunbar. However, they showed they will pack it in and quit if things don’t go their way like against Raceland and Lawrence.
Russell has a great receiver that Greenup can likely do nothing with. Russell has a strong line that will match Greenup. Greenup has the best player on the field, though, in their QB. I don’t think Greenup will quit. This one will either be a closely contested battle or a Greenup blowout, depending on how the first few series go.

As much as it pains me to say this, Greenup by a score.

Should be a toss up as is this entire district. I can see any of the 4 teams winning the district as well as finishing last. GC is big and physical with a great qb, Russell has really good skill kids and a strong line. One of Russell’s problems has been they are really slow on the line but I’m not sure GC is much faster. Devils should be 3-3 with wins over Boone, Montgomery and Dunbar. Game will come down to weather Russell can slow down the qb along with turnovers and penalties

This district will be fun to watch the rest of the season. I think Russell makes this a game but I don’t think they can win. Russell won’t get a win until week 10

The good thing is that all of these games will be streamed online over the next 3 weeks.

Greenup seems to be the grittier team and I’ll take the Muskie’s by 2 scores.

I wouldn't be surprised if Russell won and I also woulkdn't be surprised if Greenup wins big. This is a make or break game for Russell.

Russell just needs to put the 1st part of the season behind them and act like everyone is 0-0.

The front end of their schedule was tough but they have had games that they should have won but were unable to finish. This game is winnable for Russell but mentally I’m not sure about the Devils. As far as the district goes, I think Ashland has found wind in its sails and will take it.

I root for Russell to lose ALWAYS for the way Coach Ivan McGlone was done over there. Go go Greenup!!!!

This last game against Russell was missing Ethan Oborne and Andre Richardson crews. Nathan Totten has even had to step in and play on defense. Totten for the most part has played well. Colby Rock almost willed Russell to the win over Dunbar with the way he ran the ball.

The Devils will win this game.

This has to be one of the toughest districts in the state to try to justify a clear favorite. On paper the Musketeers would have to be the pick to win this game but the Devils have been improving and they don't lose to Greenup very often. It's hard to continue to compete when you're not winning but Russell has shown a lot of character by keeping their heads up and continuing to fight. That being said I still believe the Musketeers are on a mission to change the atmosphere at Greenup and have just enough of a chip on their shoulder to win this game.

This does appear to be a battle of wills.
How much will does Russell have to not go down as the worst Red Devil team of all time? How much will does Greenup have to prove they’re not just another losing Greenup team who runs scared when they see Russell or Ashland jerseys?
Along these lines, Russell wins. The more I think about this game, the more I see the bad Greenup loss to Boyd when they had a chance to take the next step. I think highly of the Greenup QB, but it’s the same old Musketeers.

If you flipped Russell and GC or East schedules There’s a pretty good chance they would be 4-2 also and this talk of worst team ever would never come up in conversation . They should be 3-3 but gotta find a way to win

Greenup has some good players and are gritty, they just didn’t have the depth to play a 4 quarter game against the Rams. As for Russell they just don’t seem to have an identity. After the Raceland game and also seeing them against Boone County I said they would be better off playing to their strengths with a power running scheme rather than trying to force a spread system on the players that doesn’t fit their skill set.

The Russell staff seems to be set in their ways and won’t make the necessary adjustments to put their last players in a position to be successful. That in my opinion is a huge reason why Russell has yet to win a game.

To me it all comes down to what we know. What we know is Greenup is capable of winning a game, just look at their record. Russell has yet to win a game. Why should we think that Russell is capable of winning a game against anyone until they do? I’ll take the Greenturds in this one.
