By the way the middle school programs this year have started out 2-0 for 7th and 8th and 6th 1-0 with a 28-6 over coal grove.
I went back and looked at the middle school twitter and it was the 7th grade team that beat coal grove 28-6. 6th grade beat Boyd County 30-0 to go 1–0. 7th grade also beat Mckell 12-0. They are 2-0. 8th beat Mckell 14-8 and
Boyd County 32-0 to go to 2-0 as well.

Glad to see RMS staying competitive. That 7th grade bunch has some studs for sure. Looking forward to the Raceland/Russell MS game this evening.

A lot of people are acting like we pound Russell like we did last week every year. That simply isn’t true. Most of the time when we beat Russell it is by 10 points or less. Before this year Russell beat us 3 years in a row by 2 scores or more including a 41-0 win in 2019.
The drama makes for good stories but what does it really matter in the bigger picture? These are 2 schools less than 5 miles apart from each other and all parties involved eat at the same places, shop at the same stores, and go to the same banks. The only difference is their kids go to different schools which really isn’t a big deal.
Just remember, the kids read all of this stuff too and all the adults are doing is fueling petty rivalries that don’t matter. In fact, I would venture to guess that a lot of the kids are even friends and hangout with each other. The adults need to start acting like adults, get a life, and stop making a big deal out of HS sports because honestly it’s embarrassing and makes our area look bad.

Let’s put a different spin on this just for conversational value. Let’s say TJ hangs it up at the end of the year. Who replaces him? Grizzle?? If this the plan I believe it’s a smart move to back out of this game. Raceland will beat Russell for the next three years in football, being a Raceland gran and struggling with the Rams on the football field wouldn’t set well with the Russell fans

This is a series that has had an off and on relationship for a long time anyway. It’s easy to take for granted that this has been an annual game and forget that before 2007 this series had been paused for over 30 years and was paused again between 2013-2015. Hopefully we get to see this game happen again sooner than later and it doesn’t take an entire generation to play again as it has in the past.

I'm not part of or affiliated with either school system so I'm on the outside looking in. The buzz around the area outside of the two schools is not about a few transfers, which has always happened and always will, but about the number of hold backs which filtered all the way back through middle school. I don't know the actual numbers and how much truth there is to the chatter (the truth is usually somewhere in the middle).....but..... if the numbers are what I'm hearing then I wouldn't be surprised to see more schools pull out. In my opinion hold backs should be legal and rare. Each case needs to be thoroughly thought out and have multiple legitimate reasons to happen. If this is the case at Raceland and the numbers are small, then I say be happy for their success, grow up and wish them the best in trying to bring a state championship to eastern Kentucky. If the numbers are large as many are alleging then I think their complaints are understandable.

Every school in this area can do the same thing. With that being said idk the number and I wouldn’t hold my kid back just for sports unless he or she suffered a injury where they missed the entire season. I believe the hold back talk is just social media talk. I believe there are other reasons for this and Russell may be using the hood back argument as a scapegoat. But we will never know …..as the world turns in the here today gone tomorrow issues of social media hahah

I believe Ramdad is a good man and loves his school system and I love to read his comments and I usually agree with them...but....if...the numbers are as extreme as I'm hearing then I have to disagree. It's not about legality, it's about ethics. Every school in the region should not do the same thing. I taught, administrated, and coached for over three decades. I am a true 16th region fan and love our schools and hope the best for all of them. During my tenure there were just a handful of students that held back and they were not allowed to participate in school related sports during the hold back year. Allowing students to hold back for athletics should never be considered unless there is a special case (such as you mentioned--injury, etc.). I realize covid could cause some special cases but if the numbers are anywhere near what I'm hearing then covid must have hit a lot harder in the Raceland district. You may be right, this may be a case of jealousy and people trying to find an excuse for not being as successful. But...if the large number of hold backs did occur and filtered all the way back through middle school then the school system doesn't have a legal problem it has an ethics problem. I hope its not true and the Rams bring home their first state football title. If the numbers are true then I have lost a lot of confidence in one of our schools.
I’m just honest trying to wrap my head around the whole situation and see it from both sides. When equal opportunity is given to all school districts to hold kids back and one doesn’t do it but blames the other school for doing something that’s legal is baffling to me. It’s a situation yet again in this country where we try to make others live their life by the same convictions and views that one group has.. Nothing illegal has happened nor will it happen. Russell decided not to pass the rule so kids can hold back for covid. Are they gonna not play every team that has a covid hold back? Why doesn’t Russell refuse to play Raceland in all other sports? These same kids play other sports at Raceland but it’s only in football that there’s a issue. I do know this….TJ felt as if the Rams ran the score up on them and he was butt hurt. I don’t think Mike ran up the score. It was 21-7 at halftime and Raceland was almost down 14-0 in the first quarter. When the clock started running the jv went in and scored another touchdown. I believe Russell made a mistake when they decided not to allow kids to hold back for covid. I think k they have regrets now.

You guys keep referring to Covid hold backs. Is everyone just supposed to forget over 10 kids in your junior class were held back in the 6th grade????
Now you start piling up transfers and 19 year olds every year. Yea people start to notice.
Reap what you sow

I am so sick of the "holdback" word. If the kid is of legal age, it doesn't matter. You guys act like they're 23 year old men out there playing against 16 year old boys. The "holdbacks" have to conform to the same age limitations as everyone else. The only advantage is the "holdbacks" have more varsity experience.

When you say more “varsity experience “. I think what you mean is an extra year of eligibility, genius
And if you don’t like the word “holdback” to bad because that’s what it is when you do it in middle school.
If you know you want your child to play their senior season as a 19 year old, the start them late. Do preschool as a 5 or 6 year old.

Strikes me kind of funny that a guy who uses a Latin username and is obviously an expert in etymology is sick of a word. Anyway, I wouldn't consider myself one of "you guys" but I think those guys are more concerned about the sheer numbers of that offensive word, if the numbers are in fact true. I’m a jr high basketball coach at Raceland. I’ve coached the millions of hold backs you think the number is. In the jr class it was 5 kids not the entire class. Yes we had Covid hold backs but not near the number that I thought would take advantage of it did. We had seniors that could have played another year but not one single kid took advantage of it. We had a lot of really talented sophomores who did not take advantage of it. The numbers being spewed out in here are wrong. We’ve had 5 transfers in two years not 10 not 20. 5. The selling point is right off US 23. Look at the facilities they are well taken care of for that purpose. So kids and parents will drive by and see it. Like it or not but high school sports have become an arms race and Raceland is at the forefront in this area. By the way the turf was paid for with a nickel tax and matching funds from the state. Put that out there so numb nuts on here won’t say we used Covid money or money for education to build a turf field. One thing Raceland does very well is they don’t concern theirselves with what everybody else is doing. They do whatever they can for the kids to be successful. By the way where were you guys at when we were losing kids to Fairview and Russell and Ashland . We lose kids to other schools almost every year. Don’t hear anybody talking about that. I have an issue with anybody from western weed complaining about anything after what happened there a few years back. Also. Guess what?…..if the KHSAA decides tomorrow that a kid can’t hold back for any reason Raceland will be the first to fall in line. You read #thisis home and #its different here. You have no idea what you are talking about unless you are a part of it. Things are done right here. It’s a special place. I would invite anybody to talk to one of the transfers if you run into them anywhere. Ask them how they feel. They will tell you it’s like a family and they are treated very well.

It’s not like we got thrown off of Huntington highs campus for openly recruiting kids. I’m interested in that definition. I’ll expect a reply soon. Are you referring to the Arnett kid? I was right there for the beginning of that one. Matter of fact I was the first person his dad called when he wanted to transfer. He asked me for principal and superintendents phone numbers to get the process rolling. Said he wanted to make the move for the success of his child because the Fairview program was going no where.
