A good friend of mine sent me a message and wanted to know if there was an effective way to report a family member who was padding the stats of a high school football player.
Anybody got any suggestions?

They can e mail the KHSAA, but nothing will be done unless it threatens a record.

What do you mean padding stats? Blatantly lying on numbers or a coach not putting in the scrubs with a big lead in order to make the stats look better? If it's lying about stats, that's wrong. If it's the latter, it may not be the classy thing to do but is perfectly fine.

It's the former

Having anyone other than a coach or someone with no family members on the team do stats is a mistake.

There's a reason stats like tackles are not in the KHSAA record books. It's one of the more difficult stats to track because it's so subjective.

If state or national records are broken I believe the film has to be sent in to confirm the stats and records. Otherwise i don’t think anything will happen other than most people can look and compare team stats on KHSAA and see what each team reports as earned and allowed. Normally if they are within 25-50 yards I’d say it’s okay but when one team reports gaining over 100 yards than the other team reports allowing you can pretty much tell stats are being padded. To me it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things because the best teams don’t need to pad stats.

I’m curious is an accusation being made?

Nope!! A friend asked how they could effectively report someone who is padding stats. I don't even know who they were talking about. When I googled this, it was really confusing and I couldn't find anything helpful. So I asked you guys.

Only way in my opinion is to find a webcast/broadcast that was recorded. You would have to go back and review the film paying close attention to the down and distance on each play and where the play winds up after blown dead. It will take some time and patience to record whatever stats are being padded. If you have access to this, record on paper what you saw and look at the stats being reported on the KHSAA website for "said game". If it is off by a few yards, I don't think there is anything that would change someone's mind. If it is egregious, I would submit findings to KHSAA and see what happens.

This happens in high school more than what some may think. There is a high school team I have noticed over the past few years that always has 75 to 100 or sometimes even more yards reported than what their opponent reports that they gave up. It also happens on the defensive side of the ball as well. I've seen stats changed after they have been reported because a parent complains.

I've saw where a guy broke the state blocked shot record in basketball only for someone to come back from 7 or 8 years prior with stats so he could get the record back.

While I agree, no one should pas their stats, but I will also say, the only ones who care are the daddy’s of a kid that isn’t getting the stats, it’s not that they care about the record or anything, they just don’t want to see any kid get attention, unless it’s their kid, it’s all jealousy, sad sad world, where you would pad stats, or where you would care enough to even check and see if someone’s padding stats lol, it’s high school football, just let the kids play and enjoy it..
