The internet is making it easier for communities to keep track of convicted sex offenders.
The current list of registered sex offenders in Kentucky is over 5 thousand names long but with such a long list websites are actually making it easier to keep track.
There are now many websites out there to help educate the community about sex offenders, but one of the latest was started by John Walsh from Americas Most Wanted.
By simply typing in your address a map will pop up showing you all of the offenders in your area, including the crime and their picture.
"Everyone in our community needs to be aware of who these sex offenders are, and if they see them with a young child they need to call law enforcement," Chief Ronnie Bryant said.
The commonwealth of Kentucky has also set up a similar site that includes the current state laws against sex offenders but they are working to pass a bill to strengthen these laws.
The bill calls for sex offenders to stay one thousand feet from school, public pools, and daycares.
As well as upgrading the possession of child pornography from a misdemeanor to a felony and repeat sex offenders could be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Parents are urged to educate themselves as well as their children as to what these offenders look like in case the children are approached.

True, but most of those dudes look freaky, wouldn't be hard to tell. I just wonder if they'll put someone on there for a mis-understanding cause a lot of girls take stuff the wrong way, they cry wolf, and a person gets put on there and it ruins their reputation, name, and family's name.
Anyone know how serious it has to be??

I've heard of a few cases of that happening. Parents get involved and want to believe that their "little girl" couldn't POSSIBLY be having sex, it must have been rape soooo they press charges and then the guy gets punished for the rest of his life for it. It works both ways, I mean it can provide the heads up for people but with every good there is a bad buuut there is no fool proof way to fix it. Charges are charges and a criminal record is a criminal record. I hate to say it but if the age difference is big enough actions should be taken, no really a rape charge and being classified as a sex offender but if you are 20 something then you need to make friends your own age and not sleep with 13 year olds, that goes BOTH ways: male and female.

Well i just learned that two sex offenders live within two miles of me in each direction of the highway.

They choose how long you are on the list by the severity of the crime committed... and if someone is on it they have been proven guilty of the crime

Makes it a little better, but, even so, a lot of people don't pay attention to how severe it is. They look, see a person's face, assume that the person is dangerous and a sex offender

If they are on that list then people SHOULD remember their faces and not really worry about the crime. The fact of the matter is, if they are on there then they are there for a reason. They should assume that the person COULD be dangerous because they ARE a sex offender. They wouldn't be on the list if they weren't. They don't exactly pull people off from the streets, take down their info and a pic and throw them up on that site with some charges they just made up.

Ok, but, hypothetically, say a girl is at a party, college or just a high school graduation, she goes to another school, she's 15, but she looks well over 18 and is dressed that way also. She attracts a lot of guys, lies about her age, or doesn't even tell her age but it's assumed she's older because why else would she be there. She hooks up with a guy, she goes home crying because it was painful on her, or, worse yet, she gets pregnant. The parents have the guy put on the list for everyone to see. Ruins the guy's reputation, and might also ruin his chances for job opportunities.

Well to start with if the guy isnt smart enough to do some research to see how old she is he deserves everything he gets and also hes not just put on there because the parents want him on there there has to a be a trail and then if he convicted of a sex offense by a Jury or he pleads then hell yes he needs to be on there and I for one sure as HELL does want him around my daughter.
Also it just doesnt mean having sex with under age kids it could be a case of rape on an adult as well!!!!!!!

Exactly Bat.
I know the circumstances you were speaking of BFritz but I am with Bat, I would want to know if he was around me or my friends. People that trust people too easily and get themselves into those situations needed to have an eye on them. I understood what you were talking about and that situation happens more than once daily around the world and girls should not do it I agree but guys should also not fall for it.

Say they're on spring break, a young kid looks older, and maybe even has a fake ID, you're supposed to ask for a birth report and then also call her parents to make sure, ask for hospital records and DNA??
