I’m all for it.
This probably means that the football class system is going to be adopted by the rest of the KHSAA athletics to try and level out the playing field. If they don’t, then Pikeville and Johnson Central may never lose again in region in any sport. Those are the two most attractive destinations, especially after the new JCHS is complete.

This is great! It means parents won’t have to uproot their entire lives to send their kids to a school that they think would be a better situation for them….

You all may not be aware but a student can go to any hs in the state entering 9th grade and be khsaa eligible. Today and for many years past.

I've always been a proponent of letting kids go where they want. High School is greatest time of most folks lives, so let them go somewhere they want to where they will get the best out of their four years.
If you need any assistance or want to report a problem feel free to PM me and we will get it taken care of! Thank you for choosing to be apart of the BGR community!

All transfers come to Whitley County. I need a quarterback, two offensive tackles, a star running back, two wide receivers, two defensive tackles, two linebackers and two lock down corner backs.

It ain't college.

I think a lot of you Dougie but a lot of these kids are playing with hopes of getting to college if a kid and his family can find a situation that’ll help him achieve his dreams then I’m all for it. Especially when there’s politics and agendas holding him back…

Not a fan - Don't see this passing any such movement. Live where you go to school or hold your school to higher standards. School board elections actually DO matter.

Actually, from what I read at the end of the article, the schools elected not to do more investigation into the transfers and now that the applications to transfer is 1400 up from 800 around this time of year, everyone involved in the process is wanting relief from it. They went as far to say that almost every transfer was ruled eligible because the initial investigations were not legit or not done properly. Meaning its costing someone a lot of money when a rule like this keeps all that from happening. I at one time was a stay where you play kind of guy. I at one time would never have considered it. There are hometown programs that have that same attitude, you need to stay and represent us when the program isn't doing it their selves. I have talked to many of parents about this very subject. Most people don't even work where they live today. Most drive up to 2 hours away every day. So, moving today isn't like it was years ago, parent will pull the trigger faster especially if they see if might help their kid get an education paid for on another level. This isn't all about sports. Some of these applicants for transfer doesn't even play sports.

This rule will kill a lot of small football programs across the state, which may or may not be a bad thing. The gap has been widening in Kentucky High School football for a long time.
I'm indifferent to the rule. Kids should be allowed to go where they want to, regardless of whether it is for athletics or not. That said, if the KHSAA hadn't been so selective on when and where they decided to enforce the current transfer rules then the discussion may never have seen the table anyways. So I guess I'm in favor of it if for no other reason than to take one more thing out of the hands of the KHSAA's selective enforcers.

They already transfer anywhere and everywhere. They some kids that’s played for 3 different high schools in the same region

I think its a joke that our legislation doesn't have anything more important to do than constantly meddle in hs athletics.
02-17-2022, 01:21 PM
Small programs do have a chance there are always kids looking for a easy place to play! Most our kids that leave go to a smaller area school were the demands are not as steep, and the competition is lighter.

It’s time for some changes at the KHSAA any way. I do think kids should Be able to transfer any time they want and be eligible but I think it’s up to the coach on whether or not they let the kid join the team in the middle of the season. Just a lot of different factors to think about.

This screams "We don't have resources to keep tabs so let's loosen up on the rules" and really funny to then say the KHSAA is losing credibility! I'm curious how each district handles this ruling.
With Open Enrollment in Louisville magnet schools like Male, Manual, and Central where enrollments are already high, I doubt a kid can just transfer into one of these schools if there isn't space available. (of course there will be attention on high profile athletes who transfer) This could potentially help the other schools in JCPS and possibly level the playing field a bit. I doubt we see any kids leaving private school and transferring to one of the magnets.
High School sports are going look very different in a few years. Too many districts lose money and a lot of travel/club/aau teams popping up.

Tackett said principals around the state are asking for relief on investigating transfers.
“It’s bogging them down,” Tackett said. “Frankly, they’re not all doing as thorough of a job as they’d probably like to. …
“Our schools have us with one hand tied behind our back because they’re inconsistent in how they do their process. They don’t always tell the complete truth. They might not fabricate, but they don’t always tell the complete truth. They don’t investigate, and they simply transfer the blame.”
Sounds more like the schools asking for relief to me.

Do we really expect principals (some care more than others and too many don't care anything about athletics) to do a thorough job? I get that the KHSAA is like the NCAA overworked and understaffed, but they are the governing body for a reason.
02-18-2022, 01:35 PM
To me would you expect the KHSAA to send out 1400 investigators LOL......... To do what the schools are already supposed to be doing. Just because they govern it doesn't mean they will do the work. You know how the government works; you do all the work they get to make all the decisions.

This will definitely shake some things up in 14th region. Know several kids wanting to try something new but couldn’t afford to move.

I’m okay with it as long as they start cracking down on kids after they’ve used their one free pass to transfer. If they don’t then this is pointless in my opinion

What a joke. It will only cause more problems for the incompetent KHSAA. Kids will take their one transfer year early and then discover that the grass is not always greener. They will then want to transfer back or to another school and will not want to sit out the next year. Then it will be the same ole excuses, sick family member, lost job or etc. KHSAA cannot uphold the rule now, they certainly will not in the future. The principal is not the one that does the investigation on transfers, that is the athletic directors job.
