Survey to go out regarding sister districts starting 2022 season. I’d say this will be accepted if coaches have any say.

It’s good to be able to play some different teams. The only negative is by in large it will really increase having to travel long distances.

Refers to going back to the way things were in the previous alignment. First 2 rounds of the playoffs are played against a paired or "sister" districts, rather than inter district format we have now. Ie district 1 #1 seed plays district 2 #4 seed, etc. Rather than playing your own district teams. Essentially, imo, it means nothing bc its the same coat, but a different color. Still too many teams getting in there. And imo, makes it worse bc now low seeds will have to travel further to get whipped.

I love it. Never should have been changed to what it is now. I’d love for 3rd round and semi state be at a neutral site also, but that’s not even close to being talked about.

Imagine, you are 0-10. Since you are in a four team district….. surprise; YAY- you’re a playoff team. Now, instead of taking up equipment, planning for winter weights and improving- you get to take an eight hour bus ride to get a 40 point; running clock butt whipping put on your KIDS. And those KIDS are beat to death, injured, tired, and some that aren’t hurt pretend to be to avoid “quitting”. Playoff format DEFINITELY should be changed to at least just the top three teams.

Kids who are on bad teams know they’re on bad teams. They choose to play because they love the game. They know they’re going to get beat handedly first round of playoffs.. but they choose to play because football is the one sport you can’t just get the boys together and play again. I’ve never heard a kid say, “I wish they’d take us outta the playoffs so we don’t get beat”. That’s typically just the argument from fans who want something to complain about.
You obviously HAVE NEVER coached football. I know for a fact that kids on these rye
Of teams DO NOT want to play in these games. I have coached some good teams and some pretty bad ones, and I have talked to lots of coaches about the format.
You rent your tux, buy flowers, put on cologne, and go to the prom- because you wanted to go. You get there and have fun, but all the really pretty girls have a date and leave with their boyfriends. So, at 11:30 you drive to another school’s prom four hours away only to find out when you get there; the lights are out and the party’s over!!!
Talk to coaches whose kids have gotten RED FEVER breakouts the week of the Belfry first round playoff game; Log Mountain Flu before going to Bell in Dudley’s heyday; the CORBIN COLD; BREATHITT BLUE TONGUE; and other team outbreaks. Let’s all face it- first round games are unnecessary with 1 v 4.
Only one team has won it all since this format change was implemented. Bourbon with Dudley; and there is a whole list of legendary circumstances that made that improbable run possible.
Football is a tough American CAPITALIST game. The strong and rough and hard working and disciplined SUCCEED. It isn’t socialist soccer with rules designed to make scoring hard and equitable. Everyone doesn’t deserve a trophy. Everyone isn’t worthy of continuing to compete. High school isn’t little league where the annoying self appointed team mom brings cookies and kool aide to every game and really believes that’s the most important aspect of the game day experience!????
But everyone is entitled to their opinion in this wonderful country we live in.

I sense that ROTC struck out the night of the prom.

I’d be fine with 1 seeds getting a bye also. This could lead to certain teams having 2 weeks off before their first round game due to scheduling. Could be good, could be bad. I do think too many teams get in but no shot KHSAA takes 48 paydays off the schedule anytime soon. No matter how pointless those games are. With cross bracketing, it could lead to more upsets in round 1 though

Then, we must agree to disagree. It’s simple from my perspective. But if you don’t see it; you don’t. Just two differing views/opinions.
Kids played the first 10, because of the reasons you stated earlier. They love the game, their buddies, the jersey, the Friday night experience…… blah blah blah. But once you’re 1-9, beat to death, and it’s cold and rainy every day- well; you gotta know when it’s over.
Ali’s last few years in boxing.
Big Ben not retiring and the Steelers not moving on out of respect and loyalty.
Again- just my opinion; doesn’t mean yours is invalid. I have been on both ends of it as a player and a coach.

My only argument here, a 4 seed does not have to win state to prove the thesis that they belong in the playoffs. A win or even competitive first round game should be enough to prove that they belonged in the playoffs. Also, for the record, Bourbon's win as a 4 seed was in the 4 class system. 4 seeds got a lot more wins against 1 seeds back then, but there were also 6 or 7 teams in each district.

Many school districts have ZERO dollars for their sports budget-except for coach's salaries. That means that everything they have has to be paid for through gate money and fundraising. Some school districts are generous and pay for teams buses to games. Some school districts those buses are paid for directly by the team-yes even districts school buses and drivers.
Travel expenses are paid for from gate receipts on playoff games.
I am sure there are some school districts that have an actual athletic budget for all their teams.

Easiest way to fix the problem is fix the classes. Go to a 5 class system with sister districts rounds 1 and 2. Expand the district team numbers. Give 1 seeds a bye 2s vs 3s and 4s play each other. Atleast make the 1st round mean something to these 4th seed teams. Then if by stroke of luck you have a loaded district, you could get the random upset. I inow its alot of moving parts, but there has to be a way to help both sides of the argument.

I don’t see a problem with every team making the playoffs. Every other single sport makes the playoffs or tournament.
Maybe only let dist champions in basketball and baseball play each other

When you start cutting the number of football games played by eliminating teams from the playoffs before they begin, then you only handicap those teams for the following season by reducing their practice and game time. Nobody has ever explained to me how the quality of football suffers in a state like Indiana by their decision to allow all teams into the playoffs. There is far more parity in Indiana football than in Kentucky, especially in its larger classes.
I’m not sure how not wanting to cut down the playoffs = turn football into a socialist sport ???
I agree with the concept of professional teams "earning" spots in the playoffs and I agree with excluding bad teams from NCAA bowl games. For professional and college football players, their development time is not restricted the way that high school players' time is limited. Excluding teams from high school playoffs is a sure way to guarantee that regular season running clock games will become even more common than they already are.

Extend season two games, then only allow winner and runner up from each district in playoffs. Wasn't there a time when only district champs went to payoffs?

Yes, which I don't think is a good setup. There have been several instances where a team that didn't win their district in the regular season won the state championship.

When some teams that are consistently getting to play extra seasons in the amount of games over the course of 4 years by making deep runs, it's tough to take football away from others. It would seem that the rich would just get richer as programs would gain an even bigger advantage from those extra practices and extra competitive situations late in the year. It's a tough task, but less football for anybody is probably not the answer even if it's just a game or two.

Cut the field to the top 2 or top 3 and move on. but......it's been about money. plain and simple. And, with the KHSAA being so depleted of funds due to COVID, I simply don't see a format change in the offing anytime soon.(01-19-2022, 10:21 PM)16 special Wrote: I love it. Leave it as is, every sport gets in playoffs but football.
If you cut the teams in football then cut every sport too
Only let top two basketball teams in district play region
Do away with dist tournament because there are too many teams. Something like 4 I think in each district
Just let dist winner in baseball and softball go to region
