LCC doesn’t help themselves at all by rotating Carson Adams out of the game. Terrible coaching move.

Letcher County is mediocre at best. Smile

They will definitely have their hands full with LCA, who along with Beechwood appear to be on another level than the rest of 2A...unless I'm forgetting someone which is very possible lol.  Win or lose at LCA the Panthers will be a better team come playoff time because of playing LCA...the same can be said about Paintsville playing Beechwood last week.

If Pikeville can keep it close with LCA and Madison Central the rest of 1 A is in trouble.

I don't see them even keeping it close with any of the top 5 teams.

I'm of the opinion that the Pikeville Hazard game in the playoffs last year was the biggest playoff upset in the history of KY HS football. Some of you more versed in the history of our sport may be able to weigh in on a bigger upset, but it would take a very compelling argument to convince me. No way something like that happens to the same great team 2 years in a row.

The rest of 1A is already in trouble.

I honestly thought Letcher Central would make the score a little closer.  Pikeville may be the real deal this year.

I think the talent gap in that game supports your argument. Hazard played their “A” game and Pikeville slept walked for 4 quarters.

In 2014 Paintsville lost to Pikeville 62-8 in 2nd game of the season then beat Pikeville 30-6 in the 2nd round of the playoffs. However, talent wise, 2014 Paintsville would beat 2020 Hazard by 4 scores.

Raceland and Paintsville are the only 2 Class A teams that can stay on the field with Pikeville. If Pikeville gets beat by one of those teams it wouldn’t compare to what happened last year vs Hazard but it would be a sizable upset.

That win last year for Hazard was an upset, but wasn’t that big of an upset. Pikeville was beatable last year and there loss to Campbell County proved it. Hazard has an okay record at Pikeville in the playoffs. Hazard upset Pikeville in 2006 too. So it’s not like it’s not been done before. Hazard had a terrible start to the year last year. Lost several players via transfer and injuries, lost practice time thanks to Covid that set them back. They got to finally playing good at the end of the schedule like ur suppose to do for a playoff run. Hazard may of lost the next game after that Pikeville win, but they did however get beat by the champs.

I think Pikeville overlooked Hazard because of the 43-7 win earlier in the season. The Panthers offense also became very predictable. I remember noticing that in the LCA game. They wanted to throw a lot and teams started clamping down on Lockhart and quite frankly, Birchfield wasn't getting the touches he probably should have. He only avg 13.5 carries a game last season and through 2 game this year he's at 19 per. His success on the ground opens up the passing game for McNamee and Lockhart.

Teams definitely have let downs and can get carried away with looking to the next game. Hazard also played that first game without a the quarterback. Having the quarterback back for the playoff game helped Hazard. Pikeville was pretty predictable all season last year. If u could contain the run somewhat and keep Lockhart in bay then you had a shot of beating them last season. I agree Pikeville does need to rely on the run game more and less on the pass.

Birchfield only 8 carries vs Hazard last year. Real head-scratcher. Hazard wasn't very good at all but Pikeville didn't come to play a few times last year and it bit them hard. It's a new year though and they are loaded and HUNGRY.

They didn’t just get beat the next game. It was probably the most dominant performance in the Chirico era especially for a  3rd round of the playoffs game. I don’t think they had a 1st down until the JV was playing.

Anyways, I doubt Pikeville let’s that happen this year. Just run the ball with your stud and behind that experienced OLine.

Yes and pass off of that too. Stud ran for 200 vs LCC and QB1 threw 5 TDs to boot.

He did. Believe Pikeville moved him out to wideout to try to open it up Lockhart some. They let Thomas run the ball during that time. Birchfield is a good weapon out there too.

The difference between this season and last season is Pikeville has many more weapons to choose from now. Coach Mac didn't show much of his playbook Friday evening, so by playoff time look for some new wrinkles compared to now. The one thing i think needs improving on is the end around sweep. The runner needs to be up to full speed as much as possible when he hits the hole. Jmo. Coach will have that corrected. As for the passing game, look for it to be even better as the season progresses. The big tight end is doing a great job as witnessed Friday. He's big, strong, and athletic, and not so easy to bring down. When he is tackled, notice how he stretches' and fights for extra yards, even on the ground. Great things lie ahead for this team, but it's up to these young men. They've got a target on their back and certainly need to be focused.

Pikeville had those same weapons weapons last year, but failed to use them. Lockhart and Birchfield got about 75% of the throws last season. It will most definitely help Pikeville to evenly distribute the ball around.

Grant Scott at TE is a stiud and adds another dimension to Pikeville offense.

Hazard started the season 0-5 then beat Phelps, barely beat Whitley County, then beat Phelps again. I'd hardly call that gearing up for a run to beat the best team in 1A. The stars aligned for them and Pikeville played their worst game of the season. That's why they play the game. But it was a HUGE upset. Like I said, I can't recall a bigger upset. Also, those kids were 2 years old or younger in 2006.

Yes they did start out 0-5. Yes they probably shouldn’t of lost to Floyd Central in game 1. But Floyd central’s big offensive line wore hazard down and hazard had several starters quit during that game. But after that the losses came too Danville,Paintsville, Somerset and Pikeville. That’s a gauntlet, so it’s not like they lost to bad teams.
