Somerset 40 Whitley Co. 8
#1
Final.

Somerset offense is lethal. up 21-0 at half coach pulls some starters to get young guys on and young guys with a mix puts up 19 without sheron on the field. Somerset s defense was great biggest plays gave up we're penalties. Whitley got one in the 4th on JV. Naturally a little work to do as any team. Somerset looked really good. Whitley has a long way to go. They just can't handle speed very well.

Somerset didn't pull starters at halftime. They are very good, but they still have work to do. Whitley County does have a way to go, but they have a few players with no experience. Last night was the first ever varsity start for the quarterback.

They must have pulled a lot of them early.  The Jumpers backup quarterback led 3 scoring drives.

Somerset real deal. Still things to work on. Congrats.

Lots to clean up across the board. It really looked like a scrimmage from both sides both in execution and pace of play. Whitley Co. has some nice pieces, once they get it all put together they'll be fine.

I'm interested to see how the running game progresses for Somerset moving forward. Doan got most of the carries last night, and did well. With him being new to the team I'm sure that was intentional. I'll be interested to see if Guy Bailey, Jerrod Smith, and Mikey Garland get worked into the running game more as the season progresses though.

A lot to work on, but a lot to be excited about.

Apparently some don't pay attention to games. Somerset did pull Sheron and a few more starting second Including had 2nd team lineman. You need to watch tape and I did say some not all. Going to be a exciting year.

Ease up. It took 4 quarters for Somerset to put up 40 points with a lot of starters still in tact late. Sheron tweaked an ankle and was sat for 100% precautionary reasons and Gross came in and took care of business.

Somerset has a lot of warts but there is potential to do great things, the team that played last night doesn’t beat LCA though.

Looks like Somerset is picking up right where they left off. Congrats!

My thoughts.

It took until under 9 minutes to go for Whitley County to score. I’ll take that as good news. Even if at that point Somerset was playing a lot of younger players.

Somerset looked extremely vanilla and that I am sure is many teams across the board. No spring and summer, no scrimmages etc. It will not be fair to compare this team to last season. At all. This team isn’t 2019.

But.

Once the pieces get to clicking this group could be special. The firepower is there. What they need is for many of these younger players to get game reps and get adjusted to high school speed and strength. Some are more than ready while others aren’t.

That’s the missing piece. Getting everyone on the same page and getting them game day ready.

Once that happens, look out.

Nice assessment.  Somerset will definitely be a tough out and very likely could bring the hardware home again, but Whitley County has a lot of bright spots to be inexperienced, but they will be solid by season's end and the program is definitely moving forward.

Pay attention so you will  know what's going. The starting quarterback went out with 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter to prevent injury. Your team is very very good, but there's no reason to downplay the opponent.

Cool fact Mikey garland actually used to be a Whitley county kid, glad to see he is doing well! Also Whitley is young, it was the QB first varsity start, run game went decent, and somerset had to work for those 40 pts they weren’t given. Definitely some bright spots for the colonels

Wasn't down playing Whitley much respect for them. Was just pointing out the coaches did the right thing by mixing in reserves which they did on line etc. Whitley will be fine like other teams that lost. First games are not a good indicator when all teams only had 3-4 days on contract. I do apologise if it sound like a down play on Whitley never meant for it to.
