Greg Buckner, Seymour,IN gym, my playing days
#1
One hour north of Freedom Hall in Louisville is the Seymour,IN gym which seasts 8200. This gym has replaced the New Castle gym as the largest in the state. Basketball writings from a 1983 Regional at New Castle thoughts were that close to 9000 fans saw a game. The gym is built like the Knott County gym with the walkaround paths that circle the bleachers. Fans were supposed to be 5 deep around the top of the gym. For 4 seasons at Louisa High as a player when i left practice or a home game i traveled over 20 miles on a two lane curvy road to home. This is the same distance as traveling from the Knott County Sportsplex to the right hand turn into the busy shopping store parking lot, or the same distance from Pikeville High to Elkhorn City gym. If we practiced after the girls i might not get home until 8-10 pm. Then back up at 6:30 am back to school. On a Thursday through Saturday away games one season. I will use 15th region schools at the same distance i traveled.
Louisa to Prestonsburg Thursday
Louisa to Pikeville Friday
Louisa to Grundy,VA. Saturday
Then north on 23 on a two lane to Louisa, then 20 miles to my home.
Greg Buckner University Heights 94 moving into the 2020 KHSAA Hall of fame played as a sophmore at Betsy Layne then at Pikeville in a Friday/Saurday doubleheader along with Chris Harrison of Tollesboro 91. Does anybody remember these games and dates? Murray Garvin and Lee Jones stars for Pikeville. I was at the games but cannot found scoring in the back issues.
On December 23,1982 Chaminade University upset Ralph Sampson and No. 1 Virginia team. This is a good book that i am reading.
