Powell county job open
#1
Head coach Josh Kincaid just resigned the outlook for the Powell program may go
Right on down. Any thoughts?
#2
Any word why? He is taking another job?
#3
I would look for Coach Brewer out of Prestonsburg to take this job.
#4
Said he wanted to be a better father. I can only assume it’s family oriented entirely.
#5
Wasn’t Brewer there before going to Prestonsburg that would help P-burg out getting rid of him
#6
I doubt that coach brewer will return although it would very much please me to see it happen Brewer has a good program and he’s building it back from the ground up.
#7
He was at Powell.

From an outsider looking in.....appears to be a tough place to win.
#9
Don’t be surprised if Brandon Brewer doesn’t go back to Powell Co.

I agree I would say Prestonsburg will be open in the next few weeks
#11
Other than Brewer, any other names that might be of possibility?
#12
Mike Jones? Live in between Stanton and Mt. Sterling.
#13
You have Combs former Head Coach at Magoffin County, Vanderhoof from Wolfe County.
#14
I may be wrong, but I think Brewer will stay at Prestonsburg. Although, the expectations aren't as high in Powell County, I feel like it will be easier for Brewer to win at P-Burg. Personally, I would rather be in a district with Shelby Valley and East Carter as my top competition, rather than Rockcastle and Bell. Coach Brewer is building the Blackcat program from the ground up and he should see a lot of improvement this year, with the majority of last years team returning. At the end of the day, Coach Brewer is from Powell County and his roots may lead him back to Stanton.
#15
Brewer will not be returning to Powell. He is in the midst of rebuilding Prestonsburg and will be more competitive each year. Prestonsburg has way more advantages than Powell. You all are right, Powell is a tough place to coach and a tough place to win.
#16
I look for this to maybe be a inside hire look for possibly frank spencer kids like him and he’s a big Powell guy

Powell County is in a district with Fleming County, Mason County, Pendleton County, and Lewis County. And it’s also WEST Carter. Not sure what you were even talking about.

West Carter not East Carter and in my opinion there's absolutely no excitement in the Prestonsburg community about football right now and it's getting worse everyday. I don't personally see any improvements in the program. 2 win seasons and they missed the playoffs last year in that easy district you're talking about. Kids are still moving schools or planning to. I'm sure Coach Brewer is a fine man, but I don't think he realized what he was getting himself into when he took the job, and I don't think he's the man that can bring Prestonsburg back to relevance. So it wouldn't shock me if he goes back to Powell.

I’m not seeing how you can call district 8 weak last year

You’re right. I always get Powell and Estill mixed up. Looking at the district, Powell can be successful under the right coach.

Powell has a much weaker district than Prestonsburg does.

I’m not, I was being sarcastic because fatdaddy made it seem like district 8 is weaker than Powell’s. I’m in agreement with you.

My apologies. I think AA District 8 was one of the better districts in the class this year.
#24
Powell is in probably the weakest district in 3A. Coach Brewer could go there and be competitive for a district title right away.
#25
I really don't think Coach Brewer will leave Prestonsburg to go back to Powell County. We only graduated 4 seniors with only 2 of them getting HUGE minutes.

We only won 2 games and missed the playoffs, but I believe in this man coaching them. I believe he was dealt a hand rougher than he initially thought, but he's handled it with grace.

I don't personally know him, but what I know of him is that he's a great man and someone with a passion for the sport.

Best of luck to Powell County in their coaching search, but I believe that it won't be a Brandon Brewer reunion.
#26
I was told today that Brewer is staying at Prestonsburg.
#27
Powell has a good coach about 3 miles from the school, former coach Mike Whitaker still lives there. I think Mike was the first coach to ever have a winning season at Powell, don't know if he would be interested but be worth checking.
#28
Hate to see Kincaid leave but I do understand him wanting to be closer to his family. However, I hope they hire someone that has half a clue on how to coach. A name or 2 that has been mentioned would only bring the program further down, IMO. Also Powell loses 15 seniors, most of which contributed. There is still talent on the team that will get to shine now but still need some younger players to step up.

What about a guy like Austin Moore from Estill County. He spent this last year at North Laurel, but the previous 10 as an assistant and coordinator under Mike Jones at Estill. He left Estill under a cloud of smoke and rightfully so on his part. He was done wrong after putting in 10 years of service coaching at Estill along with playing there. Would be a great candidate.

This is Gretchen Brewer, Coach Brewer's wife. I'd like to start out by thanking all those who have had positive things to say about Brandon. Brandon loves football. He is passionate about teaching the game to others. We are both grateful for his time at Powell and now we are happy in Prestonsburg.

It has been challenging, but we knew it would be. Everyday the Blackcats get stronger, faster, tougher and more united. We both have high hopes for the program and we are seeing positive attitudes from the boys as well.

Our schedule right now is one that neither Coach Brewer nor Coach Derossett put together, and I can assure you it's full of juggernaut teams with historically strong programs. The Blackcats have played these teams with grace and resilience and they maintain their Blackcat pride. That is something that I truly admire about these kids. This next year is going to be exciting as we see what our seniors can do.

We both hope that the next Pirate coach is full of enthusiasm for the program and love for the kids, just as Brewer and Kincaid were.

Both programs have promising futures because both teams have people in and around them who are invested in their success!
