Clay County 75 North Laurel 73
#1
Final
#2
North scores 73 points on 8 assist as a team. They're lucky they only lost by 2. Clay finally realizing what can happen when you play a little man to man. Have to feel good to get this win and still have Abner on the bench with a injury. Valentine may want to go back and see how it worked out for North a few years back when 1 kid was shooting 80% of the shots.

Whoa.

Big win for Clay
#4
Big district win for clay. Man to man defense without any subs due to injuries. District and region will always run through Manchester. Kind of hard seeing fans rush the court after. Shows how far we had fallen the past couple of years.
#5
South could beat Clay bad again tomorrow but I still think when all teams are healthy, the Tigers have the best rotation and it showed tonight when everyone was involved. Shepperd is almost unguardable as a freshman; that’s saying something. Such an exciting high school basketball game.
#6
South, Knox, North, Clay, (Bell and Harlan County to a degree), ever which of these teams are playing the best team ball come tournament time will represent in Rupp.
#7
Agree with you about your top 4 Rainingthrees. I don't believe anyone else can win 3 games in the region. It will be a fun one to watch!

I wouldn't be surprised if clay beat south tonight. It's the bobby keith classic and it's at clay. Clay's team is better than South's team in my opinion. Davis has done a wonderful job thus far with the talent he has.

After watching last night's game. South north or clay will win region. My pick is still either north or south. Clay has proven to struggle in the post season games. I think Knox hasn't really played a quality opponent thus far so I am not really sold on them yet.

I said it last week and I’ll say it tonight regardless of the Clay and South finish, it’s about region pairings. There would technically be a 3 way tie at the top right now with North beating South, South beating Clay, and Clay beating North. These games make for interesting discussion but it’s really all about what happens at the Arena.
#11
I am just happy there wont be a blind draw in the 49th this year
#12
I don’t keep up with the 13th region very much but it seemed like a lot of posters had given up on Clay Co this year. It’s only one game but that was a big win for them to pick up some momentum
#13
I am not thinking too much different than the rest of you. My first tier would be South, north, Clay and Knox. Just below I would think Harlan co, Bell and Corbin.

Sure wouldn’t want to play the Clay/ North or Bell/Harlan loser in the first round at the Arena

North has no shot to win region at this point. We have become the North Laurel Sheppards. We had a gift wrapped victory in overtime today by one point against a below average team that we beat by 35 a few months ago. Up until the last week or so there was no team in this region that was gonna touch North, but evidently our philosophy has changed. We are now more interested in stuffing the stat sheets and pleasing certain parents. Good luck to Clay and South, we’ll be cheering for you at Rupp!

North will get it lined out. Every team goes through a rough stretch. That's a good time to learn and grow. I would say it would be hard to play a day game with little basketball atmosphere following a big emotional game last night.

One had 39 and the other 19 in a game where 65 points was scored. That's 7 points scored by the rest of the team. That will definitely get old I'd say. Just seems like history repeating itself at North.

You are correct win you say North was given a gift wrapped win in overtime today...watch the tape.
I understand the point you were making.
But in all fairness..Southwestern is by no means a "below average" team. Their record was 9-0 until lead scorer went out in holiday tournament. It was a great game and both teams played well!
If you are referring to the 35 point win in a preseasom scrimmage with Freshman and JV..that was then..did you see the same team on floor today?
#18
Sorry but at least some of the players we played at Cumberland College were on the floor today and they weren’t freshmen!

North definitely got a big break yesterday in their 1 point win over Southwestern. One second left on the clock, trailing by 1 and inbounding the length of the floor, they threw the pass to a kid beyond half court and a ref that was completed out of the area (40 feet from the play in the end zone area) called a foul on the SW defender. I rewound that play 5 or 6 times and the kid didn’t do anything more than just jump up in the air with his arms up. He in no way touched the North player, who went to the line and made two free throws and won the game. There’s no way that ref could have made an accurate call from that distance unless he was just going to inject himself into deciding which team won the game. I don’t know if the refs were 12th or 13th region but I’m assuming 13th since the game was at Clay Co. Southwestern is a 12th region team so the judgement on that call went against them.

I’ve only seen Clay co once this year at Johnson Central. They looked good and whoever number 5 is, he was extremely impressive. One of the best I’ve seen this season.

Watched Sheppard play his whole life - that kid is as unselfish as they come. He just wants to win, if that means scoring 30 he will do it. If it means scoring 2 and getting 20 assists he can do that too. You all have a once in a generation player and you are complaining already. I can assure you every other team in the state would love to have him!

Its 13th region officiating.. that's about what you get week in week out. :flush:
#23
13th region officiating is so up and down. But that’s how it always been.
#24
I'm still trying to figure out how a Clay County assistant coach was half way out on the floor and the refs had to basically put the game on halt to make him have a seat. I thought that only the main coach was aloud to stand up? I've been to games where a coach would mouth while SITTING and get a bench warrant and then T'd up????? Thought all rules applied to ALL teams and benches.

Nobody said North wasn’t grateful to have him. You just can’t and will never win regions playing that style of basketball. North had the best player to ever put on a uniform in laurel county for five years and never won a DISTRICT playing that style. I couldn’t care less how the points are distributed, I just want to see this group get to play in Rupp and that’s not gonna happen the way they are playing.

You do know that a starter on John Wooden's first national championship team was from Laurel County don't you? Also, I'm sure you know that a Laurel County boy made the winning basket for the North Carolina Tar Heels to beat Kentucky.

Congrats on your Laurel County basketball trivia! Lol
