Lawerence County@ Ashland 8-16 (scrimmage )
#1
Be my first time getting to see the Cats in action having watched them practice only a few times. Found out after the fact Ashland went to Northern KY last weekend and scrimmaged against 3 schools. Heard Ashland’s Front 7 on D looked great against the run. DBs when Pittman and Hester aren’t back there got burned a few times. OL big and opened some nice holes for the Backs but struggled some pass blocking. Gregg Ashland’s new QB looked pretty good also. Pittman and Hester at RB were as advertised. Lawerence should be a good scrimmage before Ashland heads to Knox Central next Friday.

What’s the word on this scrimmage? How did the putty tats look?

Ashland has speed, John Stone is a manimal up front on both sides of the ball, and Jake Gregg is a more than adequate QB.
That said, they’re going to have some difficulty handling a smash mouth running game.
But they have skill.
Lawrence County got better as the game went on and when the Ashland 1s exited it was 20-7 Tomcats. Gillispie can run and throw and has a nice receiver in Hall. Young is a bruiser at FB and the interior line seemed to perform better over the course of the scrimmage.
Overall, Ashland looks promising and LC looked like they have a good upside with some young talent.

Are The Dawgs pretty good this year?

They better get that defense fixed so they can compete with the Bell County's and Belfry's.

They’re at least a year away from that sort of competing. Too many kids who have to grow and develop as players. But they should be a team to keep an eye on as the season moves on. They could get a lot better very quickly if players develop quickly.

I’m still wondering where all of the athletes were for Lawrence County. After watching the scrimmage last week I now know why the QB ran all the time.

Lc moved the ball just fine on Ashland. Couple of fumbles that cost them but overall they busted a few big plays running and throwing and the fullback ate Ashland up. Don’t really know what else you expected to see from a scrimmage and anyone that has played or watched lc can tell you that we have seldom been flashy.
