South Laurel Basketball
#31
So is the what's going on with the issue with Jon Walker? Was it all made up?
#32
Totally diff deal.
#33
Everybody at south just happy she gone. Much better at practice now. South may not win region now but winning region is nice but not most important thing
#34
Any update? Also wondering if she was at the game the other night and if she sat behind Clay's bench.
#35
What kind of person calls a college and talks bad about a student athlete and has her scholarship taken away, just don't understand some people. I hope her family moves to Clay, she gets eligible, and they win the region. That would be great!

Not what happened but some would like for all to believe this line of crap.
#37
Someone PM me the details I wanna know

It would seem that something like that would not happen, so enlighten us on what really happened, because that is what is being told.

If the kid has already signed a letter of intent, the school can’t just pull the scholarship because of what a high school coach says.. now they could release the kid from the commitment but that kid is guaranteed 1 year of schooling as per the agreement signed by both parties regardless of whether they are on the team or not.

Not sure of the situation but that part doesn’t make sense.

I didn't know you signed a letter of intent at an NAIA school.

Yes

The NAIA doesn’t recognize a letter of intent or financial statements for student atheletes but most conferences do it to hold each other accountable.

Anyone who knows these people or have dealt with them would know that anything they are saying now is not true.

My suggestion would be to ask the college coach why she pulled her offer. Im sure she will be glad to tell you. That would clear up any concerns you message board warriors have. Just be glad you dont have the former coach. Many of us in Perry County are going to do whatever we can to make sure he never coaches in this county. Freak.

Poor character family which has resulted to a poor character kid. I feel sorry for the kid that she has parents like she does.

Chris Souder is a high character coach and person throughout the state, not only in high school but as well as college. That’s what kills me about this site! You believe trash instead of that actual truth! Once again I feel sorry for the kid and wish her nothing but the best. NO high school coach in the state can cause a college to pull a scholarship, but the actions and behavior of a family can.

I am guessing that will be answered very soon. Confusedhh:

Ruled ineligible Judge heard both sides will send his recommendation to Tackett any where from Tom to 14 days. Then Tackett can make a decision in 14 days or less. She won’t play this year. Imo.

Imo what kills it for khsaa is she transferred after getting susbendend a week. During that time she trasferred khsaa don’t like u to transfer for athletic reasons. This is obviously athletic reasons

He will be there or Hazard.

Seems as though the wheels are getting a little shaky at South Laurel. I know some people over there from past business ventures and they feel like Souder has gotten himself in a BAD situation over there. Seems as if that is true. More than likely he is "one and done" over there. South will not win the region this year....it is North Laurel's year!
The Lady Cardinals will be starting from square one again. Sad! Could be a state contending team.
IN my opinion, you don't have to have a "state recognized" coach to be a "state contending" team. You just need someone that can get the players, parents and community to buy in and believe. That isn't the case with South this year.

I may be a little slow following along here. Please clarify. Are you saying the people at SL don't want Souder there?

I don’t really know any of the parties involved in the situation at South. I have however read some of the girls parents comments on the 13th Region FB page and that leads me to believe some of the comments about the parents being unrealistic and negative toward coach Sowards. I have never felt like South was quite as good as a number of our mountain sportswriters made them out to be. Harlan Co handled them easily in the Region last year and they have been beaten by some teams this year, both before and after losing Morgan, that were definitely not supposed to be in Souths league. It seems like there is just to much turmoil among the coaches, parents and team to put it all together. I wouldnt be surprised if they get upset early in the region.
#53
Souder is one of the best coaches in the state girls or boys. He won 5 region championships and back to back state championships. It looks like SL has only won region twice in the last 20 years. I can only hope that you all run him off and he comes straight back to Mercer. If there are problems at SL sounds like some folks need to look in the mirror as they have a long history of not much success before Souder got there. I would think most schools would be ecstatic to have a coach fall in your lap that just won two straight state championships.
#54
I doubt you have anything to worry about. Just heard Coach Walker was inducted by the grand jury this week for first degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Apparently not.
He was indicted by the grand jury today.

They must have something
#56
I heard he tried to go back to Mercer after getting let go by Indiana University and they wouldn’t take him. They might reconsider it after the Mercer Co record this year. Was told too from Mercer Co parents he has his picks and he’s not to nice if you’re not one of them.

LOL, No wheels shaky with South girls. Case of simply adjusting to a new coach and new style. Anyone around basketball knows that its always a tough adjustment going to a new coach and especially this year with Souder coming on board about a week before the first game. Sounds like you're just a hopeful North fan and if I was North I would be much more worried about the game with Clay. North may not even make the region.
#58
From the outside looking in south does look to be having some problems... (most since they got rid of Snyder) however they are still in the drivers seat this season. The only two teams that I think can beat them in Region is clay and north and one will not be in the Region tournament. I think Coach Souder is doing great. It will all play out the next couple of weeks.
#59
Has that program not had 6 new coaches in recent years? Snyder, Stone, Thomas, Walker, Lewis and Souder? Doesn’t seem like that’s the problem with the kid.
#60
Definitely a lot to process for all the kids and parents involved with the program. Never know what will happen come tourney time, that’s what makes it exciting.
