14th Region 2019
#1
What's the region look like for next season?

Hazard, the defending region champs and state final 4, lose 2 players but two big players in Devin Morris and Bryson Parks.

Perry Central, region runner up, loses 5, Braxton Cottongame, Brody Dixon, Parker Estep, Dylan Fields and Ronnie Long

Knott Central, Region Semi-final, loses 3; Mason Grigsby, Dalton Hylton, Chase Napier

Powell County, region semi-final, loses 5, Jerimiah Creech, Drew Ginter, Colin Hale, Tayler Kennon, Jared Profitt

Estill County, first round region, loses 1, Logan Beckler. Returns probably one of the best pitchers/players in the region in Sophomore to be, Rocky Hix.

Letcher County Central, first round region, loses 4; Max Baker, Keaston Maggard, Israel Terry, Cameron Whitaker

Breathitt County made strides last year, can they keep up the momentum after losing 3 from a year ago?

Region is at Letcher Central next season.

Hazard loses their ace and homerun specialist but retains a really good core. I expect them to still be at/near the top.

Perry Central loses a lot but still have some bats and Cam Turner who led the state in ERA.

I think Knott and Estill will be pretty big forces. Those should be your top four teams - in no particular order.

Really quite....

I think Estill is the team to beat on paper in the Preseason. But that's why you play the game. Estill stated 5 freshmen in the region tournament this year along with a sophomore (And my Preseason POY in the 14th in Micah Adams) 2 Juniors and a Senior. I like this Estill team for the next 2 or 3 years. And if I am not mistaken, they host the region in 2020.
#5
Perry Central Freshman David Elkins will be the best player in the 14th Region. Wait and see.
#6
Man where are all the baseball lovers at? It's been quite since the season ended back in July.
#7
Hazard is the favorite in my eyes for this region. But it’s not as wide of a gap as others may say or think. I think Estill will make some noise if they can hit consistently against better pitching
#8
Same as every other year.. It’ll come down to Perry and Hazard in the region championship, if they don’t draw each other going into districts.
Besides Turner at PCC I can’t think of any dominant pitchers in the region this year, and Turner just sits low to mid 80s.

Hazard
Perry
Estill
Knott
Breathitt

Would be my pre-season top 5.

Followed by

Powell
Letcher

Then drops way down

Leslie
Buchhorn
Wolfe
Cordia
Owsley
Jackson city
Lee

I have a hard time understanding Breathitt in the Top 5? They had a losing record again last year. Not too mention they got beat by Menifee and also let Powell put up 23 runs on them in the region.

Breathitt added

JT Ohair
Jaylin Turner
A kid that moved here from Indiana that was an All Stater there. Cant remember his name right off.
Andrew Combs

4 or 5 new players makes a pretty big difference.

Not sure if Luke Bellamy and Bryce Hoskins will play but they are solid players as well. Some of these guys are young but in terms of experience, they have tons of it.

O'Hair isn't that good I watched him play several times at estill and wasn't that impressed more of a basketball star than baseball

You may be right. Could probably swap Breathitt, Letcher, Powell around. And put anyone of those 3 in the top 5. But I've hear Breathitt has some new faces. That should help them this year.
#14
Id bet the farm that T Willis will have Breathitt capable of beating anyone in the region.
#15
If they have some new kids then it’s very possible. Should be an interesting year
#16
I would put my Top 3 (In no particular order) as follows..

Knott
Estill
Hazard
#17
I'll go with the Engineers.

I think Estill will be right there, but I still give an edge to Hazard. I know they lost 2 outstanding players, but had a talented group of juniors coming back.
Plus its a 110 mile, 2 1/2 hour drive from Irvine to Whitesburg. That's a LONG haul on a bus.

I just think making that trip 3 straight days (if they reach the finals) would be tough. Have to wear the kids out.

It would unless they decided to stay in a hotel.

They would stay in a Hotel for sure if they get that far.

That's true. I never thought about that. Hopefully someone (anyone) can put a stop to Hazards dominance over the last several years.

Leslie County fan here. They will be young with probably 6 starters being sophmores, freshmen and an 8th grader. They have a couple of seniors and a junior that will play a lot as well. They should be middle of the pack in the 14th this year, we shall see. It will be hard to compete with Hazard and Perry in the 54th but our coaches will do their best to have them ready.
#27
Tier 1
Hazard
Estill
Knott
Perry

Tier 2
Powell
Letcher
Breathitt
And then the rest of the field tops off after them 7. Region is wide open this year.

So much for Breathit being a top five team. They are currently 6-8 and 3 of those losses are really bad ones. Gave up 14 runs to a Richmond Model team that is awful as well as losing a double header to a below average Sheldon Clark by a grand total of 23-0.

Jaylin Turner didnt even play.
