well lets here about this one please.couldnt listen as I was delivering furniture and setting it up...always good for both teams headed into the playoffs. Good luck to both and stay injury free and bring back titles to the mountains.

Not the outcome I thought. But congrats on a solid, solid win. When belfry gets healthy- and not saying it would have made a difference in this game- they will be a force to reckon with. Especially now. Refocused and hungry plunder some teams championSHIPS hopes. Haha. See what I done there
#4
I listened.

Belfry better heal up fast.

Both teams had success on offense.

Belfry D was gashed by the run.

Refs were suspect at best.

Both teams will improve off the game.
#5
Congrats to Johnson Central.
#6
I know my man bucslover will give some good insight later.
#7
Refs were suspect at best that is good one.
#8
Belfry had one touchdown called back but that still wasn’t what caused them to lose they have to do something with the defense the offense looks good but the d is going to have to come with it
#9
Did JC score on every possession except a knee to end the 1st half and letting the clock run out to end the game?

JC had a one play drive after they recovered a Belfry fumble on the 3 yd. line. JC fumbled on their first play.

No punts though... and no getting stopped on downs.

Missing Cook was big in the fact Belfry had to go for it on every 4th down and did really well actually. They only punted once and had one fumble. JC did not punt and had one fumble. Belfry’s TOP was incredible at one time they had a 19 play 89 yard TD drive that took 9:22 off the clock. Their drive out of the locker room was almost 11 minutes and the next drive I lost count at 18 plays. Problem was they could not finish due to a couple of sacks and too many penalties.

Unofficially Belfry ran 74 plays by far their most all year and this should at least make a couple of teams take notice with that ability to play keep away because otherwise I don’t see Belfry winning a shootout...possibly against Lex Cath but not against Boyle if they should meet.

Defense really missed Cook and Coleman, but they don’t play D line. Personnel changes should come next week, but one of the players possibly moving positions got hurt and didn’t return.

Dixon and Webb balled hard all night and Bentley played tough not being 100 pct. O line played really good as always and they were the player of the game.

Belfry should handle Garrard pretty easy... Lex Cath and Boyle and WH will roll.

Belfry dangerous no doubt but lacking up front.. Offensively they can compete with about anyone ...

Ready to get to the playoffs.

Spot on bucslover I think the offense can play with any 3A team but some big changes are going to have to come for the defense

2014: Johnson Central 35-0
2015: Belfry 41-0
2016: Belfry 21-16 (Both teams won the 3A& 4A state championships.)

IMO, this is, by far, the best series east of Lexington over the past twelve seasons.

I would not look forward to Johnson Central if I were in 4A. Tough team, great senior class.

So you wasn't even there, just "listened" and you could tell the refs were suspect "at best"? LOL :lame:

Way to go Eagles!!! And I like Belfry too, hope they bring home the big trophy to Eastern Kentucky!!! :Cheerlead

Just curious, how many times did each team get penalized and for how many yards? I was there and it seemed Belfry was penalized meat more than JC. No excuses though we just got beat by a team who ran the ball down our throats! The middle of our defense has been soft defending the run all season. If we don’t make changes on the DL and and figure out who the best 2 ILBs are then we exit the playoffs early! This Belfry team has no heart! Example #13 for JC got hurt (ankle) in the first qtr and hobbled the rest of the game but never missed a play! #59 for Belfry gets an ankle injury and is done for the night, even comes back out in street clothes! Yes this game essentially meant nothing but it sure was telling! Our boys don’t lay it on the line and push through pain! I hope it gets better and the changes get made!

Agree and disagree with this post. 59 is not the most mobile of players anyway...if plans for him to go to the D line and Mounts to LB are what is going to happen, then he needs to be healthy. Whether or not that happens I guess we will see this coming Friday. I actually thought BHS toughed it out considering that arguably your two best defensive players (Cook and Coleman) were not even dressed. I totally understand your point about being tough, but this was just a pride game and historically Belfry has been very conservative when deciding to play injured players. For example, my sources tell me Coleman has been cleared to play, but they held him. Fine with me, and hopefully he is good to go Friday.

Injuries and sickness are just part of it. Ben Bentley had been real sick and I thought he played solid.

I guess I like to focus on the positives. The fact that Webb, basically a little used soph HB has filled in great at FB the last two weeks and believe me he does not have the FB build but he sure as heck runs like one. And if you look at a depth chart he would be the fifth FB if you go by what we had at the beginning of the year. He carried the ball 25 times last night.

The O line continues to impress. I think they have played awesome all year with Huntington being the only game they didn’t dominate.

Here’s a couple of head scratchers for me...Does Peyton Hensley play again? He had been out since week 3 and is not even in a boot according to one of his classmates, but he limps badly. I don’t see him playing again this year.

Does Mounts get to play LB? I think prolly so and if so who will go to D line. Ideally it would have been Fields but who knows.

I do know one thing for sure...I was walking by the locker room on my way out after the game and they, the team, was getting ripped and I mean ripped. I won’t say by whom but it wasn’t pretty.

I know I’m ready for the playoffs and hopefully they will be too.

#59 was out due to knee injury and it’s the same knee he tore his sophomore year. Nothing to do with being soft or pushing through pain it means being smart and making sure he will be good for playoffs
#24
I find it very hard to believe!! That a so called fan of Belfry, would say they were soft and would not play after a injury. Belfry players gave over a 100% all game long. I'm sure glad we don't have a fan like that!!!!!!!!!!!
#25
I mean you’re def not soft if you carry 65 times for over 300 yards. Belfry pounded their D just like they did ours. It was a matter of BHS having to work extremely hard for their points and JC had a relatively easy time scoring.

I’m in 100% agreement with this 👍🏼 In no way, shape or form was Belfry soft last night. Look.....sometime you get the bear....and sometimes the bear gets you. We got “eagled” last night. Plain and simple. Defensively, we couldn’t control the LOS. It’s really pretty easy. I will say this.....while Johnson is a nice back.....IMHO...Riley Preece is the straw that stirs things for JC. He’s very skilled with the ball and very quick on the edges. IMO he broke us down more than anyone.

Belfry has problems on the defensive line....been saying that since summer camp. Nothing has changed. Couple that with injuries to 3 or more of your very best defensive players and .....it’s not a very good stew.

Here’s hoping Belfry can get healthy and make the necessary adjuments. Otherwise.....it’s gonna be another boring Thanksgiving.

Any updates on how number #59 knee is?
#28
Belfry will be fine. It’s not like they lost to Jackson county. No offense JC but....

When/If they heal up they’ll be the same Belfry they always are. Maybe not as dominant as usual but still a force. Plus Home field advantage until the Semi’s. JC will also be very deep in the playoffs if not winning it all. A strong physical run game allows clock control and keeps other teams threats off the field. Good luck to both. Hopefully WE ALL will be 100% when we need to be.

I guess I'll give my two cents. First off, congratulations to the mighty Johnson Central Eagles! You guys are just what I expected, and more! Loved watching you play football last night and expect nothing less than a State Championship this year. Love me some Devin Johnson. Kid is all heart.

Speaking of HEART, Belfry better find some along with some toughness or we wont have to worry about Boyle or Corbin because we wont get past Lex.Cath!

Offensively I think we did ok. Just OK though. And just doing "OK" will not cut it against the better teams in 3A. Alot of how we played was because of that stout JC defense. I will not take away how great they played last night. JC's defense was lights out and I loved watching it. And that had a big part in us just looking "ok". But alot of it was how we played and executed as well. Everybody and every area has to improve. I'll start with the O-Line because that's where my boy plays. They looked sloppy! All of them. Stupid penalties that we usually dont make. Getting holding calls, false starts, and an unnecessary illegal block when the play was already down field that cost us a TD. That's undisciplined football that we shouldn't be playing this deep into the season. There is absolutely no leadership on this team! You other Belfry fans can get made at me if you want but the truth is the truth. We have to many good senior football players for a couple of them to not step up and take leadership of this team! As seniors, that's part of your job. We looked like a bunch of individuals last night instead of a team. I seen guys come out after halftime to warm up and was just walking around cutting up like we had a big lead, laughing and joking, not stretching with their position groups, or just standing looking off into space. This is uncalled for! Our RB's didnt run with purpose last night either like they usually do. Dont know what was up with that. A couple times our line missed an assignment that caused this but other times they had great blocking but just wouldn't turn up field. We've got to do better or it's an early exit for us this year in the playoffs and we've got a team that has the potential and talent to win it all if they want it but it just looks like, to me, that some just doesnt want it bad enough. So yeah, defense isn't the only area that needs some improvement!

Defensively, I'm not going to say much on this. We all know what we have to do better. All areas have to improve. JC did whatever they wanted to do offensively on us last night and there wasnt a damn thing that we could do about it. Again, alot of it had to do with that Eagle offensive machine. JC is a very good all around football team folks and the best in 4A and a Top 10 team in the state, IMO. But, again, alot had to do with our HEART! Missing assignments, completely unfocused, undisciplined, missing tackles and not wrapping up, and lack of motivation! Those kids are much better than this, I know it, I've seen it. We have some really good football players on defense. I just can't figure out what's going on. And I'm not talking about all of our players. We have a couple that give 110% every time they go out to play defense, and they play well. But we all know that you have to play as a team or you're not going to be successful. We've got to figure this out and we're running out of time!

Lastly, I'll say this, we have a team that CAN win the championship this year if they want it bad enough. But right now I just don't see it. Like COACHITALL said earlier in this thread, some injuries you just have to toughen up and play through. Some you just can't, I know this, but there is a difference between being hurt or injured! Two things we have to find before this Friday in order to make a run at state: HEART and TOUGHNESS! On both sides of the ball! We have all the other tools to win but without those two we have no chance!

I agree, Preece is a stud! Johnson Central is just an all around great football team this year. I dont know how in the world Capital beat them. I will be very shocked if their not the 4A Champs this year. I loved watching them play last night.
