Mayfield played a great game against a good Corbin team. Speed is what separates these two teams. Your #2 has it but the others look about average. Corbins QB is pretty good when he had time to throw but the receivers weren't getting much separation. I like Mayfield's chances to make the finals but they need to keep improving. Corbin can hopefully take this game and make adjustments to improve their season. Hate to see this series end, I thought it helped both teams and was a measuring stick.
Thought the ref's were bad for both teams.

I'm about 30 minutes from there so maybe I can make it there by lunch time.

Has anybody heard for SUR?

I will echo that I too hate seeing this series end. Two great programs, great coaching staffs, great fans, and plenty of athletes. But most of all, a ton of tough, hard nosed kids that just love to play the game and play it the right way. MF and Corbin are examples of what's right about hs fb. It was well worth the drive these past four years to watch these two go to war. Both these teams have much to be proud of.

2A has obviously been put on notice and Corbin was obviously over hyped.

Ummmm, yes. It's a shame that Mayfield, CAL and DeSales are all on the same side. 2A is a 3 horse race, right?!?!

Ok, IM NOT SURE, but I have heard , that if mayfield should make it to semiâs they would not be in the Louisville bracket.

Congrats to Mayfield, proved once again they are a elite program

IMO
Corbin lacks elite playmakers and speed. Estep and the freshman are exceptions to this but the problem is that Longmire is a freshman and is not ready for BIG TIME varsity football. That's not a knock on him, just typical of youngsters. Estep as QB is fine, the problem is that vs elite defenses he is not as big of a threat to get into open field situations thus removing him from impact plays. Mayfield and Boyle have elite Ds with the speed and athleticism to contain Estep on a consistent basis.
But I believe what might be the biggest difference is that although Corbin has some size and A LOT OF TOUGHNESS. They lack speed and athleticism at key positions.
I didn't see this game obviously but I saw the 3A title game last season and I'm assuming that last night Mayfield had a distinct advantage on team speed. Am I right?
I'm not knocking Corbin, God knows we got our own issues.

They arenât on the same side this year. Itâs a crossbracketed year. Mayfield can and most likely will, face CAL or DeSales at state.

Corbin and Boyle had the same type challenge from Danville. Corbin won by, I think 17 and Boyle by 18. So, since Mayfield is so much better, that doesn’t mean that Corbin is out of the race in 3a. Looks like they should match up well with Boyle.

I think we need to have new shirts made this year. The shirts should read “Mayfield own SUR64”.

I am 5-1 against 64. If you count Trump, that makes me 6-1.

There is still a significant speed difference between Corbin/Boyle. I actually think Mayfield and Boyle matchup more favorably.

I would agree with you on the TON OF TOUGHNESS from Corbin, and team speed and athleticism of mayfield. There are not many teams we face that can match our team speed and amount of kids that can take it to the house on any play. Danville obviously did last year. We have a running back and about 6 receivers that can all break big plays , and our D speed is very good. I think it will take a team that can keep the ball away from us, long sustained drives to beat us.

I would describe Boyle the same way. It's a shame we'll never play.

i saw Boyle in the championship game last year, if your still that good it would take a huge effort from our kids, but I think we would be up to the challenge of at least a competitive game even if we lost.

I thought Corbin would have won, I was wrong, I also don't think one player for Corbin the WR could have changed the outcome, may have been a tighter score. I honestly thought Corbin would be undefeated until they meet Boyle or Belfry....Outstanding win Mayfield, congrats!!!!
Lets talk about something other than Crow, it's getting old we all understand Yadda yada yada...
Next question speaking of Corbin's 9 & 10th grades, how do they stack up against Knox, Wayne, Johnson Central, and Lexington Catholic who all move into 4A next season. Is this new alignment a tougher place for these Corbin Freshman and Sophomores, I saw Corbin play once in Middle school two years ago, it was against Bell and Bell won the game.

We are better at some positions and the OL/DL are improving but time will tell.
Got much respect for the Mayfield program. Good luck the rest of the way!

You forgot Boyle moved up to 4A too.
Corbin's Jr class was winless in 8th grade if I remember correctly?!?! The senior class was good as is the freshmen class....not sure about the 2021 class.
Boyle Co lost to Corbin in the 8th grade "title" game last season but when the two teams had a rematch this year for JV, Boyle won @ Corbin (34-30). The bottom line is this. 4A is going to be LOADED in the near future and Corbin and Boyle will be at the top of the ladder.
